April 16, 201114 yr Member What I want to know is why Brian Frons continues to be employed? He's been in soaps like 30 years, and really once these new shows are on he will be as needed as Barbara Bloom was to CBS. Because, the higher-ups at ABC and Disney look at Frons (and at Anne Sweeney) as a "genius" who did remarkable things while working overseas. Seriously. Yeah, it's a forgone conclusion that the daytime division, or what will be left of it once GH is no more, will be merged with the news division...but I definitely see Frons somehow "failing upwards" into primetime, and eventually, Disney itself. I'm not kidding.
April 16, 201114 yr Member As I said before, this isn't like GUIDING LIGHT's ending; as much as I still love that show, I knew P&G and CBS had sucked the life out of it, and there was no hope at all of it ever going on. AMC and OLTL were in terrible shape, but not past the point of all hope. Something still could've been done. True, nothing lasts forever, but doesn't anyone at all feel they owe it to 2+ million people - and perhaps more importantly, to their pocketbooks - to try everything before just calling it a day? IA. Neither show seems like they are done and as if they've reached the point of no return. I still see plenty of potential life left in both of themm and I dont think either is that bad. OLTL nor AMC feel like its own its last legs
April 16, 201114 yr Member The movie Network is great. I hope something is done to honor the shows (not that I expect ABC to do it)...just so we can. We need a wake or something like has been discussed before. I'd love it if they did an hour-long retrospective for each soap during the summer, but I don't see it happening. CBS acted as if they would catch cooties if they gave ATWT or GL as much as a hug during the "lame duck" periods. I thought them rerunning Bob Barker's last TPIR in primetime was a good sign that maybe they do care about the legions of fans who were loyal to their daytime lineup, but I guess not. ABC is different, but I don't know how much so. Would it kill them to do one 60-minute retrospective that they'll never have to repeat ever again (except maybe on SOAPnet a few times?). They act like doing something like that would bankrupt the entire corporation. Hell, I'd love it if they re-aired the earliest color episodes they have each show in an hour block on a Friday night in the summer, but then Sweeney would have to go on food stamps because ABC/Disney would implode. BUT. I forget. Daytime ghetto. Soaps stay there, aren't allowed to leave, and they will die there. Move along, folks, nothing to see here. It's the callousness that really gets to me. They left AMC with so little time to wrap up so much, and they won't even acknowledge the show's contribution to the network over the years without screaming at us about how great that food program is going to be. I hate ABC. If not for the PLLs and the occasional Secret Life and MIOBI, I'd be done as hell with them. Edited April 16, 201114 yr by All My Shadows
April 16, 201114 yr Member Anne Sweeney: OK, that's it. I can't do it anymore, you call the rest of the family list. Brian Frons: I can't call people Anne! Anne Sweeney Frons dial! Brian Frons: I'm supposed to be in mourning. Anne Sweeney: Well then, wear a veil over your face while you do it! Brian Frons: Hello Susan? It's Frons. FAH-RANZ! Yes I'm fine. Fine! I'm fine! I got some bad news. AMC & OLTL aren't with us anymore. I said AMC & OLTL have passed away. They've passed away! AMC & OLTL are gone. AMC & OLTL are dead! They're dead! No, DEAD! DEAD! DEAD! They're fine! They send their love! I am not doing that again! You can't make me! lol. this is my absolute favorite Roseanne scene I couldn't help but laugh
April 16, 201114 yr Member If working-class Polish Doc Wolek can marry Meredith of the super-rich Lord family; if Dorian can save archenemy Viki's life after being counseled by the ghost of her beloved, recovering-alcoholic, dead husband, Mel; if Shane can survive cyber-bullying - then maybe, just maybe, my soap will have one more life to live.
April 16, 201114 yr Member I was hoping Frons would be fired also because of his age too. Isn't he over 60 as he was at CBS daytime back in the early 80s...
April 16, 201114 yr Member Here's some more ideas for, ahem, innovative replacement series: "THE PEW" - Issues regarding today's churches, as seen from the perspective of five devout African-American Christian women in large, brightly-colored hats. (Hallelujer!) "THE CUE" - Five professional billiards player sit around and talk about (what else?) pool! "THE HUE" - Colors, and nothing but. All. Day. Long.

April 16, 201114 yr Member From Trent Garrett. Not sure if he meant himself or the entire show. @Trent_Garrett Working very hard to #saveoursoaps. Do you stop filming in July? #BoycottABC Trent_Garrett Trent Garrett @ @TanmanOH Perhaps even the end of June depending on how quick the writing is wrapped up.

RPG I think it was said that they'd be taping til August. I guess they are THAT cash-strapped, which makes me think we won't see any returns, even Ray and Lee, who I thought were no-brainers, unless they pay for their own airfare and work for scale. Lorraine and Agnes must be doing some major rewrites. They and the audience should really have been give more time.
