AMC and OLTL Canceled!

No, thanks.

Again, why should I support an industry that gave up on supporting itself long ago? I have no incentive to watch these shows anymore, and apparently so do many other people. The soap industry stopped planning a "future" long ago.

+1.

If anything maybe the demise of OLTL will send him and his rubbish he passes off as journalism packing.

Doubt it. He'd just "extricate lips" (tm Robin Strasser) and then reattach them to the Bell soaps. ("Next week? Another interview with my all-time favorite EP, Brad Bell!")

Well, Nelson did claim Brad had more writing talent than Bill.

I'm still holding out hope a cable network will pick up one of these soaps. *Please don't stone me*

Why would anyone pick up shows that have been in the ratings basement? Certainly not a good investment in my opinion.

So much for not getting stoned. ;-P

Sorry but it's not happening.

I'll never forget how those power lesbians stalked the Lifetime message board and staged a protest on Lifetime Headquarters in New York in an attempt to save GL/Otalia...

These shows have 2 million viewers, 2 and a half? I would be curious to see the size of the audience of the various shows where folksy southerners that shop at the big and tall store cook hot dogs while wearing what amounts to Li'l Abner costumes.

Not to mention, 2 million viewers is a lot more on cable than on network. ;)

Hehe, power lesbians...

Precisely. I'm not watching another soap just for the sake of watching another soap. We don't watch soaps to "support an industry" but because we enjoy them. Standing by and fighting for an in industry that doesn't even want you, that strings you along and spits in your face, it's a classic abusive relationship.

"Although we would love to continue GUIDING LIGHT on our network, our present economic model prohibits producing a five-day-a-week continuing drama series. Now will the lesbians who keep calling our offices and spamming our inboxes please leave us the hell alone?"

Who's to say AMC or OLTL would retain it's audience anyways? If it were on another network, they'd gut it so much to make it "FIT" on the network
