AMC and OLTL Canceled!

I can't believe that he had to state the obvious for some fans. The intent of his original statement was pretty clear. I bet when all is said that done a lot of these soap actors are relieved to get away from some of soap fans who overreact to every little thing.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with him making that statement publicly. The world does not revolve around some soap fans obsession with disliking Brian Frons.

My dad was telling me that he read that the ABC Chicago affilate is worried about maintaining their #1 status this fall. They had been #1 since the 80's, but NBC is not far behind. They carry Oprah and are worried losing her and two soaps will give NBC the edge.

I agree completely. remember OLTL was rumored to be cancelled a few years ago, it wasn't cancelled then because ABC decided against the replacement talkshow that had in development. then it was announced AMC moved to L.A. so that made a big statement as for ABC's intentions to "save" AMC and that left OLTL the next one to go when new programming was developed, the only problem of course was that AMC's ratings dropped and now we are left with the dual cancellation. As a OLTL fan I took those cancellation rumors a few years back very seriously and I always considered OLTL on borrowed time. Certainly when we all thought ABC was only cancelling one soap, I had hope OLTL would survive but that was only due to AMC's fall that allowed me to have any hope for OLTL as ABC made the decision to get rid of OLTL years ago, and I'm sure ES knew that and accepted that.

I won't spoil for those who havent seen todays OLTL episode: all I can say for the ending WOW! I think ES has one more Emmy win next year with whats happening if RC writes this out well, has lots of potential for a final Emmy for our beloved ES!!!!!

To all the loyal ABC soap fans,

I want you to know from me personally that we hear you loud and clear. My wife and mother are both passionate viewers of All My Children and One Life to Live, as are many of my colleagues here at Hoover. We were and are as disappointed with this news as you are.

In fact, we will discontinue our advertising with ABC this Friday, 4/22. We're making every attempt to pull our spots from these programs sooner.

Because we feel that’s not enough, we also want to help get your voice heard with ABC. So, we’ve set up a special email address, [email protected], to help pull together the mass emotional outpouring of support for our beloved ABC soaps and get it to our contacts at ABC. Please, send your emails to us at [email protected], and we’ll get every, single last one of them to ABC.

We’re 150% committed to doing what matters most to you – so if there’s anything else we can do to help or you have any ideas, please email this address, and we will respond to you personally.

Thank you for standing up for what matters to you! We need more of that in this world.

Brian Kirkendall

Vice President of Marketing

    •     In a video intetview, it was Richard Backus (Barry) who said Sarah told everyone off at her goodbye party.                                       On the Soapnet forum, it was Sean, the MemoryBook webmaster ( he also posts here)  who told us Sarah had been fired. Everyone on the board was shocked. For some reason noobody recalled that. In more recent years, it's been easier to find old press clippings that show that her dismissal was announced in newspapers and magazines.            Sean also told us that many of Sarah's castmates were not sorry to see her go. One of the columns about her firing in 1980 said that Sarah "raised the ire" of her co-workers.                                    On the SN board, we were told that Sarah would speak negatively about the show to the press. For example, she reportedly criticized the show for dumping the Pat/Nancy interfaith storyline.  The network didn't like Sarah speaking out like that

    • During Taggert Alan mentions Amanda as his "daughter" while that most likely is a writers slip up, I like to think it was a retcon. They never have Alex, on any of her frequent trips back mention Amanda as my sister, etc. I know they just want to forget it and Amanda was probematic in her marriage to Roger (i.e. MADD's decree that Roger will never be mentioned again..) Again, they could have easily brought her back with a handwave from Alex or Alan saying it was a trick from Brandon.   There is Amanda, AM and ALL the various offspring Phillip created. Plus head of family means head of Spaulding.   I would have thought it interesting if Phillip becomes more like Alan (but in the gray area he always was, not outright cartoon villain RR Alan) and AM comes back with more of his Bauer coming out and wanting to do things on the up and up..maybe AM became a lawyer like his grandfather in the missing years...and Amanda could play both sides against the other.  But also they could have brought someone like Kyle Sampson back to rival Phillip and the Spaulding (maybe Amanda married him) but then, of course there would be ANOTHER man horning after long in the tooth Reva!
    • Those descriptions of Mary Carney-- from Michael Levin --were from a magazine article in the early 1980's. In the book, he did say all three Mary replacements were bad.
    • ^^ KKL always looks fabulous.

    • Sometimes you don't have friends as much as you have family. I'm trying to remember if Dylan really had a guy  friend. He and Mindy finally became friends after a rough introduction, and he interacts with Hart#1 and A-M#1, but I'm not sure they're really "friends". Maybe David. Whereas with Bridget, because there aren't a lot of Reardons around, gets friends like Kat and David.
    •   Well at least KKL looks fabulous. https://wornontv.net/511536/

    • There was something about her being kidnapped by a Professor (?) and then presumed dead when Judi Evans left. Then somehow she ends up with Neil Everest with amnesia and being mute. Beth Chamberlain doesn't say a thing for like her first three months on the show. I sort of agree that Phillip should've been head of the family. But there's not a lot of family for him to be "head" of. Unless they could've found a better recast for Alan, I'd have been okay with him dying earlier. What Phillip really needed was an equal rival. Whether it was in the family or outside the family. And other than Roger and the first go-round with VI as Lujack, he never really had one. I'm hesitant to call Chris Bernau's Alan a rival, but he certainly was a source of conflict in Phillip's life.
