I would prefer AMC died as AMC (whatever that means) than try to make OLTL in the sleaze department. It simply wouldn't work. OLTL is the deviant/sleazy soap just like GH is the mob/violent soap. If there was more time, I'm confident that AMC could find it's niche again they just need to change the writng (simple enough right? LOL) and step up the promotion of the right stories in the right ways.

Look at OLTL, the show lives in the gutter: Wendy Williams as Phillis Rose, Kourtney Kardashian, ads on TMZ, Jess's mindfucker continuing to mindfuck her, the Buch hos with their Maury Povich baby daddy scandals, etc... I think AMC would benefit from differentiation. Unfortunately, they won't get a chance.

I think AMC needs the fun type of camp they had in the 80s. The problem now is that camp = sleaze and sickness and way too much self-awareness. I also think it needs more social classes. Why not have Amanda try to fit in with the likes of Enid Nelson? Imagine their heads shaking when they whisper about Janet Green's daughter.

There could be a lot of story based on "the new poor," characters who slowly lose most of their money, while other characters become richer and richer. How would they relate to each other after this? Soaps never really do this. Instead someone just loses money overnight and waits tables for a month until their great aunt Lurlene dies and gives them a fortune.

That's exactly it. AMC used to rule at camp--but it was in the (quote unquote) Dickens, over the top character sort, not men shirtless for no reason, mocking rape, and reality stars making cameo way. However I think the prob is, even if they reinstated this, it would take too long to grow ANY sort of following to make a ratings diff...

Demos matter but soap demos are doing really poorly as a whole so I doubt that the network regardless if owning the soap or not are happy with their performance. Tvbythenumbers doesn't really deal with daytime broadcasting mainly primetime and their is a difference with the way things are dealt with.

It is sad to see any soap cancelled it just leaves the door open for another one to leave, imo it doesn't matter which ABCD soap is cancel the first one is just the start of all of them leaving the airwaves.

The thing is, the demos really aren't awful for some of the soaps...namely the top two, Y&R and GH....and this past week, OLTL. Sure, they look awful to us compared to what we've seen over the years, but the bar keeps dropping. Most daytime talk shows, syndicated and network, have comparable or lower 18-49 demo ratings than the higher-rated soaps.

The only difference is cost, since soaps tend to be more expensive...but a network that owns its shows, like ABC, can keep cutting the budget. Unfortunately, if a soap dips down to where AMC is (a 0.8), it's probably not worth cutting the budget down further.

    • Agree. The catfights at the clothing store alone...lol.   That's how I feel about Teresa as well. Cheryl I feel seems to blend much better with Sara's breakdowns, but I definitely love her dialogue no matter who she is with.
    • Episode #62 Thurs May 29 US, Dani arrived at the bar at closing time and used her Dupree name to request that the bartender serve her even though it was past closing time.  Then Doug walked in and Dani convinced the bartender to serve him too.  They were both drowning their sorrows, and the scene switched to Vanessa/Joey having sex on the card table. Then no followup.  Did Dani and Doug talk? Or... ? Where did Doug go? When the next episode started, it was the next day and Dani was meeting with Pamela, and Pamela arranged for some hot guy to date Dani, but Dani wasn't interested.
    • So I'm seeing cuz the catch-up has been brutal. All I can do (besides look at fashion) is smh.
    • Wow. What an episode. Deidre truly broke my heart today. Not much else to say. Just an incredible love story ending.    I’m amazed they couldn’t or didn’t try go get either Claire actress while both of her grandfathers are on death’s door. Hope sensing John had passed was a nice heartbreaking touch. The rest of the week is going to be so hard.
    • -- The fashions are at least something to talk about, because we're definitely not getting any story. I mean, this stuff is dreadful. -- I do like how they're dressing Nikki. Its hugely different from before, but I'll take it. -- At least she doesn't look like Ashley, who's dressed like a clinically-depressed Cruella DeVille. -- Nick without a jacket just looks odd. -- I see Mark Grossman again gained about 15 lbs. when he was away on vacation. The sharp cheekbones are gone and the double chin is back. Hate to be mean, but I hope he loses the weight. -- All that talk about all Claire did to plan that "party." Excuse me? There's nothing go on, and outside of some tacky Happy Birthday signage and tablecloths from Kohls, I don't know what they're talking about.

2025 year-to-date: 64 episodes monthly leaders: as of May 2025 (appearing episodes/total episodes, per month) directors + writers: pre-emptions: seven total pre-emptions + one National delay A very special thanks to @alexisfan07 for the double and triple checking of stats! A huge help that is much appreciated.
    • You're right, but that also sums up why the show is so unwatchable these days. Any character could go on a Postal-style rampage and it would generate a shrug.
    • I'd be surprised if it was. Money is money. And yeah, Kathy's done all those things but tbh given the current tally for ruinous character choices in EE in recent years I'm kind of numb to it and find hers small potatoes by comparison.
