Days - Time to recast Peter Blake

Anyon eelse think its time that Peter return to Salem? Ive loved the character and want him back but considering the alleged rumors surrounding Jason Brooks and Missy Reeves, the chances of him returning are slim to none with her back on the show. With that said, a recast would be in order. Who would be a good choice? Here are some of my top picks

whipo.png

1. Rick Hearst

Rick's played alot of dark characters and does it well. I think he'd fit in with the Dimera clan quite well. He's on contract at B&B now, but they never use him and I dont think the show would mind releasing him from that contract if they came to a mutual agreement.

2. William DeVry

Yet another B&B star, but a very underrated soap actor. Its a shame he's not in daytime right now

3. Robert Kelker Kelly

Yes, he famously played Bo in the early 90s but Days has a history of bringing former actors back in new roles, so why should this be different? It would be interesting seeing him act against Peter Reckell

4. James Hyde

He played a good guy on Passions, but can he play a more sinister role on Days? He at least definetly has the good looks Peter is known for

5. Trevor St. John

Yes he's currently on OLTL, but rumors have been swirling for months that he might leave when his contract is up in a few months. Maybe he could make the switch on over to Days?

6. Thomas Calabro

He is a bit older, but he looks very good for his age. Having appeared on the recent Merlrose Place, he has aged quite well. He has charm and evil down pat. Perfect qualities for one who would place Peter

As far as story, Id create a sextet of Hope, Bo, Carly, Peter, Jennifer and Daniel. With Carly's world spinning out of control, she finds herself getting involved with Peter, much to the dismay of everyone around her. Bo has a hard time seeing her move on with a Dimera and cant help but try and play white knight, which causes some stress on his renewed marriage to Hope (but they wont break up). Jennifer wants nothnig to do with Peter and does her best to try and warn her friend against him, but she soon realizes that he still has a hold on her and they share a mutual attraction whcih grows stronger everytime their paths cross. This of course causes problems with she and Daniel who has taken an interest in her and wants to be with her. It would be quite a twist, if Jack ignoring her, is a result of Peter kidnapping him, a secret that wouldnt be revealed till months down the line

Peter and EJ would most definetly be at odds. EJ would be super jealous of him coming back and taking his place in the family and in Stefano's eyes. I'd definetly see a sibling rivalry with the brothers at odds

I love that idea, I like RKK but he had some alleged issues with Kristian Alfonso & Crystal Chappell, so I know Days wouldn't go for that. Rick was also on Days as Scotty Banning, but like you said Days, like every other soap brings back former actors in new roles. I like all your choices along with Jon Hensley, Sean Kanan, Matt Crane, or Frank Grillo

I like the idea of bringing back Peter Blake. Days loves its DiMera's and Peter is Stefano's adopted son. Add in the history with Jennifer and its a perfect opportunity for his return. It's a shame Brooks can't come back because I really liked him in the role. As Dr. Neil Curtis said, I don't think RKK will ever be back at Days after the actions that led to his firing.

Great idea, Cheap!

First choice: Jason Brooks, because he had this great blend of charm and threatening malice. Who knows, maybe the JB/MR thing can be chalked up to water under the bridge? It was long ago, both are older, wiser, etc.

Second choice: Thomas Calabro has something of Jason Brooks IMO. What an awesome choice!

Third choice: William deVry, his Peter would have something a little soulful and wounded about him. It would make an interesting counterpoint to EJ and Stefano, as Peter Blake would of course have to interact with them, too, as Stefano's adopted son.

You know who are missing from the Bope/Carly/Jen/Dr. McHairyChest group? Adrienne and Justin. I personally think they reunited these two too early. I would have liked to see Justin and Carly lick their wounds over Bope together. Plus, if Peter Blake ever came back, it could be Kiriakis vs. DiMera with Justin vs. Peter.

All this just leaves me thinking WTH is Dr. McHairyChest doing there.

Oh you know Id definetly love that but I dont think the issue is between MR and JB but rather SR and them. I dont see him allowing his wife to work long hours with the guy while he's over at GH. I just see it being a problem and one the show wouldnt go for considering what happened last time

BTW, where is Peter? What ever happened to him? Has he at least been referenced over the years?

Yeah, perhaps you are right, Sindacco. SR probably doesn't want to hear that name anymore and MR doesn't want to be pulled off the show.

However, I still say Thomas Calabro would be great. OMG, I can really picture him playing off Joe Mascolo and James Scott.

Its too bad they made Chad, Stefano's son bc there's more story potential if he were Peter's kid. Just imagine, Jennifer's daughter, with Peter's son? Thats a storyline that could write itself and bring the younger generation into this in a natural way

I was just thinking this as I was watching the episode where Jennifer realizes that Abby is hanging out with Chad, a *gasp* DiMera offspring. It would've made sense for Jennifer to reference that she herself had once been involved with a DiMera, and not even a biological one(!), and he was dastardly. It was like it was on the tip of Jenn's tongue (but not Missy's!) but it was never mentioned.

Great casting ideas, too. I could see Rick Hearst, James Hyde (bad actor, but fits the role physically), or Thomas Calabro (Michael Mancini in Salem!!) working.

    • I appreciate your POV and ideas here. I don't, however, trust Josh Griffith to make this anything like a good story. My guess is that much of it will be off-camera and that we'll have to be happy with Mariah retelling the nightmare in bits and pieces. Meanwhile, Tessa will still be strumming her damn guitar with Daniel. Ugh. I know I'm negative about this show. I am hate watching with every fiber of my being, and there's nothing about it that's working for me. I never recall Y&R being worse.
    • A batch of photos from Episode #67 which aired Thursday June 5 in USA. Some are scene pictures, and some are behind-the-scenes. https://www.paramountpressexpress.com/cbs-entertainment/shows/beyond-the-gates/photos?episode=25710 Posting because there's a pic of director Michael V. • I think the gross ickiness is Josh Griffith's intention. At birth, Ian Ward stole Mariah from Sharon, so that Sharon knew only of the Cassie twin and not the Mariah twin.  Sharon gave up Cassie for adoption at birth, never knowing that Mariah existed. When Ian Ward stole baby Mariah, he had her be raised by a woman member of his cult. She grew up in his cult. Years later, after Mariah was an adult in Genoa City and had left him, he tried to kidnap her to marry him himself, I sort of remember some icky scenes where he had arranged a wedding, but she escaped or was rescued -- it was so gross that I chose to forget it, and I don't want to look up the details. Mariah is feeling traumatized/triggered by Ian Ward being in Genoa City several months ago, because he was obsessed with her, and he terrorized her loved ones, interacted with Tessa, and drugged Sharon, which ultimately resulted in the death of Heather -- causing the grief of Daniel and Lucy. None of that was Mariah's fault. But she was so horrified by what happened, that she feels she did something wrong that caused this hateful villain to continue to obsess about her.   Based on small comments that Mariah made recently, I think she feels completely worthless. I gather that when she was away on the business trip a month or two ago, all of what happened with Ian Ward and Heather's death just hit her all at once and she was mentally/emotionally collapsing, and just felt unable to call for help.  During the business trip she sat in her hotel room and spiraled more, feeling more and more worthless and afraid. Finally she started drinking at a bar, and that's when the creepy old man approached her.  By that point, she wasn't in her right mind, and started interacting with the guy.  Either she thought he was Ian, or she thought he was someone like Ian, and she would be *required* to flirt with him in a role play, and do what he commanded, almost like old programming being reactivated.  Or perhaps just simple self-loathing playing out. I don't know if the guy actually knew Ian or Jordan, or if he was a random stranger.  But Mariah's fear/loathing/subconscious chaos kicked in. And then... well that's as far as her flashbacks have aired so far. She can't bear to face the rest of whatever it was.  I gather that in the coming episodes, we'll (eventually) find out what happened next as we see more of the icky flashbacks. --------------- The rest of this post is only my speculation: I think that she felt like she was supposed to have sex with him but didn't want to, and may have tried to kill him instead. Or he r*ped her.  Or they didn't have sex at all, but it's all convoluted in her mind.  Something horrible happened but I don't think it was her fault.  If the man died, maybe she covered it up?  I really don't know, I'm just speculating ideas. At any rate, I'm totally convinced that this is NOT a conventional "cheating storyline" where someone willingly has sex outside their relationship. ----------------- This is basically Josh Griffith's obsession with dark storylines, creepy villains, and terrible writing of "mental health issues".

    • Right. Literally for decades, soaps mesmerized their audiences with tales of romance, family conflict, class struggles, and recognizable interpersonal-relationship sagas. We didn't need relentless, heavy violence. We didn't need clones, mad scientists, extra-terrestrials and demon possessions. We didn't need gaggles of plastic himbos and bimbos pushing beloved vets off-screen. We only needed to see people whom we cared about, and the intelligent, moving progression of their lives. Flashy sets, gaudy gimmicks, and high-falutin' hairdos be damned. The characters and the words were important.
    • Absolutely! Brad should've simply moved on from Lunacy. There's no point of freeing her, if you're not going to at least make an attempt at redemption or incorporating her into the fold. It happened with Quinn, who committed quite a few felonies before become the Forrester Matriarch.  Heck, keep Lunacy in prison and have Poppy/Finn discover that she gave birth to twins - 'Sunny' could've come on with a clean slate and still had Sheila/Finn and all the other drama. It certainly couldn't have been worse than what we've witnessed with the destruction of $B.
    • I would enjoy it if Swan popped up on BTG as an old one time friend/mentor of Anita’s for a cameo. This is just
