Members DRW50
It does seem like a nice idea - perhaps not suited to the characters involved, who were already saccharine. There seemed to be a lot of hooting over the stuff with Cricket and Jessica singing "You and Me Against the World."

Members DRW50
DeeeDee, what did you think of Amy/Alana?
Members DeeeDee
A solid actress but an annoying character. She was a lot like Diana's Angelina.
Members DRW50
Do you think her weight problems were that noticeable? Or was that just some excuse?
Members soapfan770
I wonder how it would have been if had Joanna Manning ended up HIV+ instead. Or would that be too much Terms of Endearment?
Members DRW50
It certainly would have been a very different type of story for soaps, especially since I think Lauren might have had a very ugly reaction.
Members DeeeDee
An excuse (she was no bigger than Adrianne Leon when Y&R fired her). She was meant to be a new heroine but Y&R felt her weight didn't fit their style.
Members soapfan770
Very true, and I don't see Joanna getting the gracious, more sweet than bitter ending that Jessica had. Thought I might share this everyone, its an interview with Patty Weaver from 2005:
Members DRW50
That article makes me sad I wonder if they may have ever considered writing Gibson's weight into the story, like they did with Traci.
Members Paul Raven
Patty was great on the show,as she said she believed in what the character was doing and that worked onscreen. When MAB first came on,I think we saw Gina a couple of times.I think Patty had health problems. I remember the Wesley Eure interview where he said his friendship with Patty was curtailed once she hooked up with Jerry Birn.Seems he was very conservative and didn't like Patty hanging out with the gays.
Members Paul Raven
Found the quote WE LOVE SOAPS TV: Did you keep in touch with anyone from DAYS after you left? Wesley Eure: It was an odd time. Patty Weaver, who was on DAYS OF OUR LIVES [as Trish], used to hang out with me and my friends and had a lot of gay friends, then she moved over to her show [THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS] and married an older man who was a writer, Bill Bell's good friend, and suddenly she cut all the gay men out of her life. [she] actually told us she was cutting us out of her life because she was not allowed to have that lifestyle anymore. I lost my friend Patty Weaver. She literally made her bed. Homophobia effects us in a lot of different ways, professionally and personally. Certain things are different but they are nowhere closed to being resolved.
Members SFK
Wow, had to Google, for some reason I thought Wesley Eure was the guy who played Farm Boy in Princess Bride.
Members yr9190
Thanks for posting the article with Patty Weaver! I really miss Gina on the show. It's funny how she was one of the only characters who everyone knew, when other characters didn't necessarily know each other that well. I take it that Lauren and Phyllis were the only two she never got along with huh... What years was Gina actually on contract with the show? I know she was recurring through most of her run. I'm not sure if there is much truth to that interview with Wesley Eure. Patty seems like someone who wouldn't just cut people off just because her husband disapproved of their lifestyle. Was there much of an uproar about her marriage to Jerry Birn, I know he was like 30 years older than her. I bet Laura Birn loved having her as a stepmom even if they were only 10 years apart or so.
