They are dated... and some look better than others. But at least they are interesting, unlike what is seen today 90 percent of the time. Nolan Miller, however, has never been my favorite by any means. His clothes to me aren't feminine and sexy enough. I'm a Bob Mackie bitch till the day I die! LOL With Michael Travis coming in a close second.

How can you like Bob Mackie and not like Nolan Miller?? They're pretty much cut from the same cloth, pun intended. ^_^

ITA, they are dated but so are Nolan Miller's clothes (hell, this is trickle down Miller anyway) but they were completely au courant. Miller borrowed heavily from the '40s, he took the sleek, chic elegance of Halston's '70s and fussed it up in the '80s. I miss '80s fashion, the hats, the furs, the suits, it's still alive and well on Sunday mornings in the black church however.

I didn't say I didn't like him, I just don't LOVE him. I think the shoulder pads were something I wasn't that big of a fan of. But here's a question... what's the difference between "dated" and "Period". If it looked good 25 years ago, it looks good today. Just because something is out of style doesn't make it suddenly unnatractive. I'm not a fickle person, If I like something, I will like it forever. What I like about Nolan Miller was his use of color and sense of glamour. His silhouettes, not so much.

Exactly, that's kind of what I was getting at, even Nolan's Dynasty duds are "dated" but that doesn't necessarily subtract from the appeal of those clothes. I don't like EVERYthing I see when I catch old eps, but maybe I would have liked it back then, maybe not. Tastes evolve and looking back there are things I've worn that I don't necessarily like now (loud patterned silk and rayon shirts of the early '90s). I think the things I'm still fond of are as you say timeless. A woman who could rock some of those Dynasty looks then could rock them now. Particularly Dominique's clothes which weren't as garish and statement making as some of Alexis' outfits. IMO, their best outfits were the ones that looked as equally and elegantly at home in the '40s, '50s, '60s, '70s, '80s, '90s, '00's, '10s, and beyond, which were usually sleek lined and monochromatic.

Quite a relaxed day compared to the present. However,as the show was 'live tape' that afternoon performance had to be spot on. Also, the scenes were longer so there was much more dialogue to remember and deliver.I think the tape equipment at the time was not sophisticated enought to allow for the show to be taped out of sequence over a few hours.

Am I correct?

supes, what a great article! Very cool bts glimpse. LOL at K.T. chatting with that snood around her mouth. Soaps function so differently these days, I wonder how the majority of remaining vets feel about the shooting schedule of today in comparison. I guess there'smore free time, but crazily jam-packed days and not the same cast and crew comraderie. Get 'em in, get 'em on, get 'em out.

Paul, we posted at the same time. I'm not sure, but I do believe the cameras back then had to warm up so turning them on and off would be time consuming, as was editing of course. Plus, tape itself was expensive hence it being reused by some, and episodes archived on kinescope.

I know Jaime Lyn Bauer had a lot of issue with what the actors had to go through at that time - I think they had to share dressing rooms with people not on soaps, or had part-time dressing rooms, they would get colds all the time, and I think they might not have had hot water. Then again Y&R rarely seems to have been a happy set...

I love that the first photo is Tom Halick hiking his pants up. And Dick DeColt, is that the biggest porn star name ever?

That wall of headshots -- I'd love to have seen that in person.

Don't recognize Brenda Dickson at all in the makeup scene.

Yes Carl.i recall that Janice or Jaime said that they washed their hair in plastic tubs and things were pretty primitive. it's surprising looking back, that those conditions were tolerated by anyone.Back then,i know on Days at least, men supplied their own wardrobe and got dry cleaning allowance.

Yeah, the headshot wall reminded me of Soapdish which they say was inspired by the wall-sized photos at AMC's studio.

For some reason, I always imagined Y&R was more glam behind the scenes and not so road company with actors doing their own makeup, washing up in Tupperware and whatnot. But maybe this was simply the norm?

    • The recast really tanked the character.  I was team Sophia when Madelyn Kientz played her.  I liked her more than Holly.  Now Sophia just walks around on the verge of tears looking meek and scared.  I think now that the show has recast and aged Ari, Sophia is probably on her way out.

    • I apologize in advance for asking y'all questions about who half these people are or what they're doing as I reenter this show after quite awhile.
    • Speaking of that story, it led me to this scene, which was part of a story I despised (it was one of the reasons I would skip wide swathes of the show at this time), but is another reminder of what a good actress Kim Zimmer was when given the material. I was a fan of Edmund's in spite of the many bad things he did - I think I was mostly just a fan of DAM, but I did often feel sorry for Edmund - but this story is one time where if Reva had put a cap in his ass, I would have been perfectly satisfied. There are so many stories Edmund survived that by many rights he shouldn't have...again, credit to DAM here. Maybe he had his own version of the Bradley Cole stans. Good for them. I always thought Mark Dobies (RIP) and Kim had some decent chemistry, even if the relationship was one of many discarded for "always." This for me was Beth's absolute dumbest story, which is saying a hell of a lot. I wonder how Beth Chamberlin felt about it. She always had chemistry with DAM, but chemistry was not enough for her to wander around that cardboard castle for months enabling and being such a smug princess.

    • Not much happened today, but there were a lot of good scenes. It was nice seeing people have someone to talk to about everything that’s been going on, especially Chad and EJ. I liked that Chad was there for him after what happened with Johnny yesterday. EJ convincing Chad to vote for him at the board meeting could lead to something interesting happening as well.  I also enjoyed seeing Kayla, Julie and Maggie all going head to head with Xander. The writing seems to have improved for all three of them.  NuRachel did a good job too. Just the way she delivers her lines sounds less evil than the other one did lol I still think that there’s something more to what she told Brady and Kristen. And I’m glad that Brady ripped EJ too. It was very well deserved, and I hope it was the first time of many. Belle was a little stupid in that scene though.  Btw, I didn’t expect the fate of the hospital to be all up to Brady lol  And, we got an update about Bo. It would be nice to see it though. I’m enjoying all these storylines, but too much of it seems to be happening offscreen.
    • It's those Shayne genes, as Reva is also healed from blindness about 5 years later.
