Nice, that is pretty interesting - I didn't realise Paul's office was in Newman Towers. Wasn't it some dump of a place originally?

Katherine had two maids before Esther - Theresa (seen here) and Ruth. Ruth is first mentioned around 1975 (I assume Theresa probably vanished around 74 or 75) Ruth was fired when Jill had originally planned to give Phillip to Kay in 1976 and Kay was going to sell the house and move to Europe. As far as I know Liz was her only employee seen onscreen until Esther showed up in April 1982.

Wasn't Jeff played by either Ted Shackelford or Rod Arrants? I remember one of them being mentioned. I know it was someone well known.

Yeah I think Kay had a big list of staff on the grounds. I am pretty sure she had cooks we never saw.

Of course Jill had her own maid when she moved in around 98/99

Adding my thanks for the GC places post. A fun read.

I'd like to salute Mamie Johnson in this post. I know that she was probably paid well as housekeeper to the Abbott's but she sure earned that money.

Up early each day to prepare breakfast, then up to 4 beds to be made (can you see Jack or John tucking in sheets and I don't imagine the girls doing it either -maybe Traci (such a pleaser)

Washing/ironing and putting away clothes. Taking other stuff to the cleaners and grocery shopping. Keeping that huge house clean, arranging and supervising repairs.

Then preparing dinner and clearing all that up. Would it be 9pm before she was finished and had a chance to read a book or watch TV.

Did Mamie get weekends off?

    • Finally got to sit down and watch. Wow!  When LesDanLuAnn said to Ted, this your daughter. I started tearing up...... Eva got me.  I felt like I was watching a soap opera.

    • The drag was when Tad and Edmund went to Budapest (?) in 1997 to get Maddie back from Dimitri.
    • I know it's not happening but on the surface, there's nothing left for Leslie and Eva to do but to hightail it out of town, if they value their lives. Leslie has destroyed Ted's image, embarrassed and humiliated his wife and children, and unearthed the wrath of the entire Dupree family. She's crazier than I thought if she thinks they are just going to let this slide.
    • It will be amazing if we could record the skipped episodes. Did someone sent a list of the skipped youtube episodes to the guys that are filling in the gaps?
    •   I don't think they ever wanted Sprina to be popular and I don't think they will bring Spencer back until Trina is gone. They've worked hard to marginalize their black cast, and that is only increasing. Trina/Gio could have been an interesting relationship, but they would rather just whittle that character away and then write her out.
    • Daytime belonged to CBS. They would have been making a lot of $$$ with that lineup. For context, this is the lineup at that time. Only one soap on ABC (GH) and NBC (TD) which was still an anthology at that point. So it wasn't until the opposition added more soaps that they became competitive. NBC CBS ABC 10:00am Say When! • Per recent Twitch live: Wraps filming his new film on Friday. Begins a new film on May 19. Will resume regular Twitch streams soon. Has a lot of projects coming out later this year. His current project has kept him in Tennessee longer than he was meant to be.
    • Has BTG been using flashbacks much? Of course, as a new show there aren't many f/b worthy moments but I think they can get by w/o having to use/recreate the Leslie reveal scene. What other 'soap' tropes have they employed or ignored so far? We've talked about the lack of traditional cliffhangers with lingering camera shots. They have done a couple of fantasy scenes. Has anyone apart from Dana had talk to themselves scenes? Montages?
    • Thank You!!! @rsclassicfanforever and to anyone else who contributed to the vaults over the years. I have dipped in/out and gotten my life watching Y&R early years. I never would had the appreciation for characters like Lorie Brooks if not for the Vaults, so again, Thanks.
