I don't think even changing HW's will help AMC. I'm not a doom and gloomer, but IMO it's got one foot in the grave and from what's been said NO ONE wanted the HW job at AMC which is why we got K&S

They do need to get rid of the awful B&E though

ABC should not have chosen Wednesday to air the old episodes. Don't they know that Fridays are usually the lowest days? Don't they have people to watch ratings trends?

Is that a trick question? LOL, of course they don't, heck they don't even having anyone who watches continuity between episodes, why would they bother with something like this?

Utterly stupid to air repeat going into sweeps

BrendaPalooza Round #1 was a big ratings hit so I can understand why Frons/Guza hoped for a repeat there. But Greenlee's past returns have all flopped and Kelly was never a ratings hit for OLTL.

As for OLTL not winning well the fact is, it's only down -.1 year over year. That's the best performance of all 6 soaps.

Y&R and B&B are down -.2 and DAYS, AMC and GH all down a whopping -.4 over 2009 numbers.

Maybe it's my crazy competitive instincts, but being down is not a win for me. All of them have to grow. They're simply reduced to scavenging through the leftover viewers. That's why I meant there is no winner.

Megan Mctavish would take the job in a heart beat and for the short term she would bring up ratings.

Well, 1.8 seems to be the new normal. I remember people bugging out when ATWT hit this number 19 months back. GH took a hard fall this week but Days held that position a few weeks back so nobody ought to be that worried. Most of us thought that OLTL and AMC would always be fighting for fifth place but it really seems like all non-CBS shows are now tied for last place. Overall ratings seem to drop with each soap cancellation. Right after GL bit the dust, ATWT and OLTL suddenly started dropping lower; now, with the end of World, there seems to be more carnage with lower lows.

A few months ago, I said we'd be seeing 1.5 soon enough and it really wouldn't shock me if this happens before the 2011. A lot of people will be shopping between Thanksgiving and X-mas. Hope for bad weather so people will stay home and watch soaps ;)

I think the best performance of all 6 soaps is Y&R and even B&B, down only .1 or .4, DAYS, GH, AMC and OLTL all currently have horrible numbers especially for this time of the year.

I'll wait to see what happens through January/February, but it definitely could be that the middle-pack and back-end soaps - aka all non-CBS soaps - are settling into their low end numbers being the new high (2.4 to 2.5 million). It was just a matter if time if this is so.

Exactly, Angela. I think it is laughable how OLTL fans are trying to spin the bad news.

No cold weather rising for the soaps this year? I'm hoping it's just going to be a late year for the rises. The soaps are getting numbers they would usually get in the summer, it's horrible - for all of them except Y&R and B&B.

The cold weather rises may come later in the year. The weather is still pretty decent across most of the country.

Also, you are right that Y&R and B&B are the only two soaps relatively holding onto their demos. Y&R continues to be the champion of the soaps.

My point was OLTL year over year held up pretty well for October.

Oct 2009 2,430,400 741,800

Oct 2010 2,427,250 663,500

I'm not suggesting 2.4 million is a great number by any means but the trends show OLTL been gaining this fall.

Hmm, it's called spinning now to point out the two month trend had OLTL steadily increasing? I'll make a note for the future, thanks.

what a terrible year for the soaps

1. Y&R 3.4/12 (same/-.2) <- ties low rating (2nd straight week)

2. B&B 2.2/8 (-.1/-.2)

3. OLTL 1.8/6 (+.1/-.1)

3. DAYS 1.8/6 (-.1/-.4)

5. AMC 1.7/6 (same/-.4) <- ties low rating (2nd straight week)

5. GH 1.7/5 (-.1/-.4) <- ties low rating (Last time: June 14-18, 2010)

so many - .4

A year ago, DOOL was cooking with Sydney and had the 2.2s, now 2.2 is second place. And 2 weeks of 3.4 for Y&R sounds like a new threshold is being crossed. I guess good for OLTL for weathering the storm better than the rest.

Dreadful numbers by all soaps. B&B at 2.2?....GH hitting a 1.5 for Friday......All the shows losing viewers this week.....Brenda's return continues to flop.....OLTL will drop again next week....AMC...so dull to watch...the whole mid week reruns for ABC soaps is hurting their shows.

No soap is growing to grow viewership long-term. A few might have a short spike period like AMC and DAYS managed this past year but that's it.

Right now the game is holding onto your current viewership as much as possible.

OLTL doesn't have anything to crow about as they're status is not because they're rising, it's because they fell to this pathetic level earlier this year and AMC/GH are joining them this fall.

Exactly.

I don't know what happened, when it happened but the show is really, really bad. I think OLTL shows effort, I think AMC is okay but generally on the boring side but GH is tedious.

Great points Angela!

Let's check back next week as I'll go out on a limb and predict OLTL posts a gain for this week.

They are going to hate you for saying that. I agree with you. Yes, they went up in HHs but went down in viewers again. Those 18-49 numbers are dreadful for all soaps.

AMC is in big trouble.....and GH in last...just wow.....lol

It's going to go down..I can guarantee it! The big events were last week.

They do need to get rid of the awful B&E though

Why? They write pretty good scripts, IMO. They aren't bad at all. B&E just didn't work as HW's but I think they are pretty decent as SW's. If any two writers need to go on AMC, it's Joanna Cohen and Rebecca Taylor!

I think B&E just suck period and they tend to write really boring stuff.

Maybe we should just do a house cleaning and hire the fans to write the show ;)
