Yes, originally there was an apartment above the garage. Duke and Andy lived there for a time. And then I think Andy by himself? I remember watching the Nancy being attacked scene about 2 years ago. In my head, I thought it was still the same apartment above the garage but I probably just made it that because I knew that's what it was supposed to be. LOL

Nancy getting married again was a touching storyline. When you lose your love still so early in your life - Nancy was in her 60s yes? - you long to find someone else with whom you can live out the rest of your days. Unfortunately for Nancy, that wasn't meant to be either. She soldiered on though and found a purpose in life by giving advice to the young ones. She sort of became the grandmother of the entire town which I thought was fitting for her character.

had not been aware that nancy and sara had been hospital roommates, but it certainly makes sense given the story that followed.

re nancy’s hysterectomy: can’t remember where (maybe this interview helen wagner interview), but i recall her saying that nancy’s hysterectomy had been performed by dr. jerry turner, played by james earl jones. jones joined the cast in early 1966. he wasn’t there long — i also recall helen saying that he left to to work on ‘the great white hope’ at the arena stage in washington, dc.

re the scripts: here’s a irna’s archive at the wisconsin historical society, which includes decades of scripts

I know that was the point..finding love again, but it was too soon after Chris died and well, I always thought Dan was gross...he looked like he reeked of ciggies!

Anyway, it also had that negative soap connotation that you are only worthwhile as part of a couple. Okay, plus I thought Dan was gross.

Considering Chris died not many years after that and Dan was off the show by the late-mid-90s, (and I agree that episode is one of the best and so touching considering the actor was losing his faculties,) Nancy would've only been in her 70s. (I've always assumed, but maybe other people know better, that Chris and Nancy were like standard couples of the 40s and 50s...married when Nancy was probably only 18 or 19 because she would've been expected to go directly from her father's house to a husband's house and start popping out babies.)

I totally get your point but I don't see it as you're only worthwhile as part of a couple. I don't know how old you are but, as you get older, it's not about finding love or being part of a couple, it's about having someone around as a safety net/partner. No one wants to be alone in their 70s, 80s, 90s and beyond. It doesn't mean everyone will find a suitable late-life partner but, unless you're rich, it's comforting to have the support.

I do think from what we've seen of Nancy that she would not have married again. Some women just won't. I wonder how Helen Wagner felt about the marriage.

With that said, when I started watching ATWT, Mac and Nancy were married, and I thought they were a sweet couple. The Alzheimer's story also gave Helen Wagner some chances to act, combining sorrow and grace in a way few others could.

I remember someone saying that Helen Wagner didn't believe Nancy would have remarried after Chris' death, but I'm not sure whom.  (Maybe it was Eileen Fulton or Don Hastings?)

One story that I liked from Nancy's later years - and one which probably would be viewed as problematic today - was when she helped Lauryn Hill's character overcome illiteracy (even to the point of incorporating rap music, lol).  To me, it played very well into her background as a teacher and just seemed like something she would have done to help another person.
