Thanks to saynotoursoap. I had taken breaks from ATWT at this point so I'd never seen this. While this episode reminded me of why (Lily/Holden - ugh; Linc murder - dull and depressing), it was wonderful to see so many favorites. I had no idea they'd brought Lyla back for this Christmas, and it's great to see Bianca too. Lucinda with the leather jacket is priceless.

First of all, it was more than one year, Marisa. Second, yes, when you view the clip with Phyllis Diller out of context, it looks ridic as hell. But it was actually part of a sweet little story for Marcy Thompson.

Ugh, whatev. I hate actors.

I feel like it's a "thing" to bash one's soap work, or at least diminish it, regardless of whether the era they were in was great or not. It's kinda pathetic. If I were on a soap for five years and truly thought the writing was great, I would proudly say so. And I would say so if I thought it was horrid. But I wouldn't downplay it in shame.

She did seem a little ashamed but not by some standards. I think she was on for about a year and a half, or two years, so she wasn't far off.

Here's the 2000 Christmas episode, which had worthless characters but wasn't too bad compared to later ones. I think this is the year Penny and Lyla came back, for the last time.

I didn't know Penny was in it so it was a really great surprise when she showed up. I enjoyed most of it (since I haven't seen much from this era of the show) except for the guy who stole the money and that supposed trio; the actors were OK but it all seemed so boring. And Hunt Block was annoying as hell. Not to mention how smug and punch-worthy Margo and Tom were (that is a recast Tom, correct?). Great to see Lyla, of course.

Such a shock to jump from Marland 1986 to this. All the characters, their offspring, so much history in between! Shocking to see the developments.

    •     data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAPABAP///wAAACH5BAEKAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAICRAEAOw== Janice Frame is Evan's mother. Janice & Mac were together. Janice was up to no good. Mitch was helping her. She was slowly, little by little, every day, POISONING Mac. She was almost successful. In St. Croix, Rachel & Janice began what was literally a physical fight. They fell into the resort swimming pool, continuing to fight each other. Somehow, I guess Janice had it on her, there was a knife in play but Rachel kept Janice from stabbing her & got it away from her & they continued to struggle until Rachel stabbed Janice, which was a death blow. Mitch did a 180 & helped Rachel get Mac to the hospital. He was so weakened by the poison he could not even stand unassisted. It took both of them together to walk him to the hospital but it did save his life.  The St. Croix remote was SO beautiful, but so dangerous & scary. Also action-packed.     data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAPABAP///wAAACH5BAEKAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAICRAEAOw== Hooray! Maxim's back
    • Thanks @skylark and @DRW50!

    • I do not think I have ever agreed with Vee. Normally I do not read him, Ignore ya know. For some unknown reason I clicked to read. And I agree 1000%. Now, this is so odd that I need to go away for a bit.
    • Justine had a lot of hooey in it, but she was an actual woman, not a guy in drag. She was a doppelganger of Rachel, French, having had a past history with Carl, etc. Two of the more outrageous parts-Justine bricking alive Vicky into a wall & Justine grinding the gears driving a big rig.
    • Hehe, twi/x actually x, formerly Twitter. Typically I find 2 sources for "crazy fan rumors" - the wrong parts of FB and x. Oy.
    • Not to hijack the thread, but was that character Justine? I just found this interview online with Logan and see what you're talking about - wow!   http://www.anotherworldhomepage.com/chat85.html
    • My bad….ill fix that  Fixed
    • Where do you discover this crazy rumor??
    • Jill Farren Phelps was always very skilled at saying what she meant onscreen in the bluntest way possible, like whenever she wanted fans to support one character vs. the other (hence Megan McTavish groaning about having to write Kale Browne's Sam Rappaport into three days a week at OLTL). Perhaps you should consider doing the same. Historically your intent is always far more obvious than your efforts at coy embroidery anyway. You believe people are dismissing Phelps' accomplishments, and suggest misogyny and fan blinders allow people to too easily pigeonhole and dismiss her skill set. I think we all understand her varied skill set. We're saying it's not enough to make up for her deficiencies as a storyteller and creative. JFP was undoubtedly a skilled technical producer. As a solo storyteller, and de facto HW, she was a repeat and predictable failure. She was not the first or last EP (male or female) to think she was a writer. If you want us to stop taking your behavior personally when you suggest misogyny is at play in board opinions of JFP, perhaps you should consider spending the next 10+ years here not acting like you're the only one who gets it.
