I have to disagree, I thought Chelsea did an amazing job hosting!! She was hilarious! I was SHOCKED at the beginning, with that part with her and Lindsay Lohan ohmy.gif Out of everyone Chelsea makes fun of, Lindsay takes the cake as the one Chelsea does it to the most!! And she is HARSH, lol...so I found it very surprising to see those two interacting, and in such a nice way. That part was so funny.

Kanye West's new song, WTF?? Who would listen to that?? JMO, but I thought it sucked.

Love Lady Gaga and I was so happy with all of her wins. Her outfits never fail to surprise, WOW @ that first dress she was wearing! And those shoes! I love her anyways, all of her speeches were beautiful, especially when she won video of the year. I can't wait to hear her new song.

I thought Chelsea was GREAT! I don't think she wrote her own stuff though, or at least not all of it...Because she is way more crass on E, so I'm sure she would have been on MTV, too.

I LOVED her opening where she was Lady Gaga and had the house on her head..Bahahaha.

A few of my favorite moments from the show:

"The VMA's are pretty notorious for the mishaps that go on here, and it is my worst nightmare that this year, everyone will decide to behave. Sooo, if anyone wnats to let their nipple up for a little air, GO AHEAD...Again, I'm talkin to YOU Taylor Swift....I would have directed that comment to Snooki, but her nipple is already out! Woops!"

"Now it's time to address the big, black, elephant in the room....Where are you Kanye?"

"What do you mean that's not a wig? I know a piece when I see a piece...If that's not a wig, why are you getting so defensive? GIVE ME YOUR WIG."

"Mariah Carey couldn't be hear tonight, because tomorrow is Nick Cannon's first day of preschool."

All of those are paraphrased, of course...I thought she was HILAROUS...I never miss an episode of Chelsea Lately....Hey, why isn't there a Chelsea Lately discussion thread? Hmmmm..

Taylor's song was CUTE. I loved it. Kanye's sucked so hard. It was the only performance I couldn't sit through...I went to get something to eat :P

Florence and the Machine HANDS DOWN best performance of the night. LOOOOOVED it. Should have one for best Video of the Year, too.

Lady Gaga needs to have a seat. And STOP CHANGING HER OUTFIT....There's no reason to wear five different dresses when you're not even a host....And sweethart, pick something you can stand/walk in next time. I like her, but she didn't deserve to win in every damn category...They should have just named it "The Lady Gaga Awards with Performances by..."

Overall, the awards part was kind of dumb...Gaga overtake pissed me off. Glad 30 Seconds to Mars won, though.

Chelsea wasgreat.

I love Chelsea Handler, but unfortunately her brand of humour didn't really seem to mesh with the tone that was the MTV VMA's..... the odd joke was funny, but most of the time she just felt awkward and nervous. I was really excited to see her host, but I was disappointed.

I am actually surprised with the amount of GaGa love... I totally was expecting Eminem to own her for Video of the Year, because to MTV Eminem seems like some god like figure and they promoted his performence like it was his second coming to the world of music. The performence sucked IMO. Rihanna seemed like she was high... or at the very least exhausted. She was not into it at all. I was glad GaGa won though, and do think it was deserved. Her videos are technical masterpieces and actually give the video genre some hope. I do think the tears and the little impromptu singing though was just a tad pretentious. I haven't decided if this type of display from her is genuine or just all for show. With her being so over the top in nature, it really is hard to tell. I doubt we'll never know for sure.

Cher presenting her the award though was the highlight of the night. The only thing better would have been Madonna presenting the award.

My view of the awards in a nutshell:

Handler, while not on the top of her game was still funny, and compared to some of the previous hosts I thoroughly enjoyed.

Taylor Swift can't sing.

Kanye's performance wasn't that bad, but his performances as usual scream "pretentious"

I love Lady Gaga and all the praise she's getting, but I'm waiting for her to surprise me, not in a "She's doing something shocking." but in a "She's very talented." way. The meat dress didn't surprise me.

    • Agree.  But I would describe him as being disappointed not bitter.
    • >>><<< Great minds!  Kat certainly does prove that point. She's been given a lot to work with, so we shouldn't be bored of her anytime soon. I am interested in all her storylines at the moment, and curious how the show will use the affair to impact her romances and business stories. Well, what movie was it? Cause… I noticed it too. The first couple of seconds of the song were slightly different. OMG! Great call, precisely the same situation.
    • I think Kin was dissatisfied at GH in as much as Scotty had been pushed aside for Luke/Laura and the writing was doing him no favors as Scotty was now seen as an obstacle to their romance. So with his contract up he was offered big $$$ to move to Texas, which you can't blame him for. In addition to the money, I recall he was promised that Jeb would be a more dynamic character than Scotty. The money came through but not the story, so  don't blame him for being  slightly bitter.
    • My usual video hosting site, acct: shallotpeel Video title:  1997 Daytime Emmys abridged Soaps Only 1997 Daytime Emmys Awards Presentation Show, on 5-21-1977, in New York, at Radio City Music Hall, and featuring the Rockettes, in primetime, on NBC, with special hosts Susan Lucci & Regis Philben. First the Rockettes perform. Throughout the evening pre-produced segments will be shown highlighting each show & introduced by very special guests including Aretha Franklin & Wayne Gretzky. First award is presented by DAYS Eileen Davidson & Drake Hogestyn, Best Supporting Actress nominees are AMC Eva Larue, GH Vanessa Marcil, GH Jackie Zeman, Y&R Victoria Rowell & Y&R Michelle Stafford who takes home the gold, her 1st win & 1st acceptance speech where she graciously included all of the other nominees with her & shouted out Bill Bell who was shown in the audience.  Next, DAYS Mary Beth Evans & Stephen Nichols present Best Supporting Actor nominees GH Maurice Benard, GH Stuart Damon, GH Brad Maule, B&B Ian Buchanan, Y&R Scott Reeves & Y&R Aaron Lustig with Buchanan winning for his portrayal of James Warwick. His 1st win, he thanked Bradley Bell & then thanked Bill Bell Sr & Lee Philip Bell for having Bradley! And, Elmo pulled a fast one on Rosie, about Oscar!!!  Regis introduced from AMC John Callahan & Eva Larue who presented for the Best Writing with nominees AMC, DAYS, GH & Y&R & it happened, a tie! So unusual & the tie was between AMC & Y&R so both of Irna's proteges gave an acceptance speech: Agnes Nixon for AMC & Bill Bell of course, for Y&R. AMC 4th win, 15 writers on their team. Y&R their 4th win with 10 writers on their team. The tie made it exciting.  Oprah Winfrey presented something I've edited out. And then she threw it to the GH show off segment.  Y&R Kristoff St. John, Victoria Rowell & Shemar Moore, presented Directing! The nominees GH, DAYS, AMC & Y&R & Y&R won it, their 6th win, Heather Hill accepting & she shouted out one of them who had passed this year. Sorry I could not catch his name.  Regis introduces Larry Haines who presents a special segment, GL 60th anniversary with a tribute to Irna Phillips. NATAS execs ATWT Jon Hensley with Martha Bryne content not shown Lucci introduces Robin Strasser & Roger Howarth both from OLTL & they present Best Actor with the nominees Y&R Peter Bergman, Y&R Eric Braeden, AMC David Canary, GL Justin Deas & GH Tony Geary where GL Justin Deas won & of course he wasn't there. Regis introduced the star of THIS show, Aretha Franklin who talked about how much she loves Y&R & specially Victor & the way he presents himself to a woman. (If Aretha says this, it must be true.) Then she threw it to the Y&R show off segment. Regis introduced  Watros, Newman & Zimmer & they presented Best Actress with the nominees AW Jensen Buchanan, GH Genie Francis, AMC Susan Lucci & Y&R Jess Walton, who proceeded to win it. 1st time. Erica Slezak made the presentation of Best Show with nominees AMC, DAYS, GH & Y&R. And getting their 5th win GH won the day. EP Wendy Riche accepting.
    • A random thought - June is related to Hayley AND Tyrell and Samantha. Hayley and June are sisters separated when young. Years later June's children Ty and Sam end up being adopted into the Dupree family, coincidentally giving Hayley a further link to that family.
    • He spoke highly of the cast but was disappointed in his lack of story.  He was not disrespectful and he has the right to express his feelings.
    • I like Nicole the most, because she's the only normal person, even if she slides into psych-analyzing speak. I like Anita--but I suspect that's more about my attachment to Tamara Tunie. I'm on the fence about Dani--but I don't see her as the underdog vs. Nicole. Dani had her a fabulous life. Nicole might not have lived in her sister's shadow, but it seems like Dani gets the attention in the family.
    • I definitely wouldn't mind seeing him again. I understand.  BUT...a start.

I thought this was Debbi Morgan and squeeled!
    • Cody could have been Derek. He shows a lot more emotion in the scenes he gets than Gavin ever has.
