July 16, 201015 yr Member I was under the impression they only just found out about it in a gossip column. And your impression is correct.
July 16, 201015 yr Member I have a question about ABC's 20-episode cut to save money. It's being discussed like it's a done deal. Did the WGA accept ABC's change to their signed agreement? I was under the impression they only just found out about it in a gossip column. It is a done deal. SOD said so in its Breaking News section a few days ago, I have no idea what will go down with the WGA though. Hasn't it been said that ABC would keep AMC because of it's "brand"? That's what I keep hearing them say on those DC podcasts, but I really don't buy it. AMC may be a more known soap, but OLTL is pulling better demos, and isn't it still cheaper? I don't see how it couldn't be with AMC having just gotten new HWs, a bigger studio, and filming in HD. Edited July 16, 201015 yr by Eric83

July 16, 201015 yr Member AMC may be a more known soap I don't really buy that either. Erica Kane is the true "brand" IMO........
July 16, 201015 yr Member If Y&R can maintain or stay close to current levels, I do not see the show staying on daytime but, instead, ending up on the CW or MY network as a four night a week show. A 3.5HH would be good for the CW and I don't see just one soap floating on an island all by itself surround by talk and game shows.I agree with this part of your post. Why is it that people think Y&R's demo 18-49 of 1.6 is good for them, it's not good and the network expects this to be higher, it used to be higher. With the influx of guest stars, supposedly great actors from previous soaps, MM the self-proclaimed, egotistical saviour of Y&R who increases ratings and viewership , why aren't the ratings/viewership going up by a large# and in a consistent manner. At this rate, someone is going to have unexpected trouble that they would rather not have to deal with.

I have acutally heard since AMC moved to L.A., AMC has been A LOT cheaper to produce and has saved ABC A LOT of money.

July 16, 201015 yr Member I'd like some solid information on the budget thing myself. We've been hearing for years how OLTL is under budget and AMC is expensive. I just wonder what the facts are.
July 16, 201015 yr Member Didn't they lose money because they didn't book the place they were supposed to store their sets or something?

Daytime Confidential published a report on OLTL being the cheapest ABC soap in 2008. They also said that it was making the most profit, and some of their profits were being spent on AMC to help them out because they were overbudget and not making any money. I haven't heard anything on the subject since.
July 16, 201015 yr Member I think when both AMC and OLTL were in NY, AMC was the more expensive soap so it does make more sense to move AMC than OLTL. Now with AMC in LA and OLTL still in NY, I still think OLTL is cheaper but not by much. Would also like to see the budgets of these shows. Edited July 16, 201015 yr by OLTL_fan
July 16, 201015 yr Member Wait a second. Can we please stop with this nonsense about OLTL possibly being more well-known than AMC? Say what you want about the ratings, but come on, son.

"Well known" to who? Soap fans know both shows and those that don't watch daytime don't really matter. Most people don't know either show.
