GH: July Discussion Thread

Oh my, wasn't he horrid? I watched the interview with that guy and Franco and they both sounded stoned. You could have a shooter game with the word "layers". Anyone spoiler free wouldn't have the slightest idea that the guy was a comedian who makes fun of soap sterotypes. The thing with symbolism is that it only works when everyone is in on the code.

I have to agree. This hasn't lived up to the expectations I had for it.

As a person who has never heard of Franco until last fall when he came on GH, I have to say that his time on this show has him completely exposed. He's a bland, boring actor.

I knew he was gayer than a clutch purse on Tony night when he was "singing" Route 66 couple weeks ago. I was like "this is the best representation we can get?"

Don't you mean "drag?" Because I don't know what the hell that was, but it wasn't drag, child. <_<

Exactly - and unless you visited one of the other main spoiler sites for GH you'd never know. He's one of Franco's BFFs in r/l and that's his schtick. The significants was totally lost because that wasn't highlighted. At least most of us knew Franco's real mother was going to play his mother. But this guy had no obvious connection. The twitty blond chick who was going on about Franco's "art" made more sense, and she was merely an extra.

Kalup Linzy is a performance and video artist, and he's also known best known for his video art pieces that make fun of the tone and narrative approaches of soaps. He plays most of the characters himself, and mostly in drag lol...

heres an example

This is stupid. Sorry.

I wish, for once, someone could do an effective soap parody or an effective take off of soaps that makes fun of, not only the stereotypes, but actual scenes from the show. What I wouldn't give to see someone effectively parody pregnant, crazy Ashley randomly rambling on in the back seat of that limo on Y&R or someone do their best Giggly Heffa or Cassie Layne.

SNL and GH seem to have the same view of black men...if their shows are blending together can they please get Nora Dunn in a short term role as Lisa's nasty mother or something, or Helena's long lost daughter? And how about Jan Hooks in a comedy story which helps bring Tiffany or Lucy back for a few weeks?

I couldn't even get through it - that's not a soap parody. Not sure exactly what it is besides a talent-less gay guy playing dress-up. To do a real parody of soaps, first the person has to have intelligence and charisma, but aside from that they have to love this medium and truly understand it's nuance. This guy obviously doesn't get that.

Luckily it was short lived and it's done.

I do believe we are having a little bit more next week though. Probably the standard Monday repeating of Friday's ending.

    • You're really in for it, because those rants continue for 3 episodes. I was struck by how ho-hum those cliffhangers were. It was like the writers ran out of gas.

    • Thank you for the clarification, but Susan didn't name her child after David.  It was Julie who named her son David.   And how/when was Susan's son killed?  And didn't Susan kill David Martin and stand trial for his murder?
    • I truly wish we could see more of her work on DAYS. And more of her early stuff on GH, but at least we know that Corday’s DAYS vault is virtually complete, especially compared to GH. Lesley was a pivotal character. I think the scenes with the confrontation with Monica are so good because there is a lot of character in those lines and performances. Monica is ferocious, desperate. And Lesley is not a victim, she holds her own and calls Monica out, playing her own form of anger. Evenly matched. Soap confrontations have largely forgotten that both sides should be evenly matched, even if someone has wronged another. To me, that scene is easily in my soap hall of fame. They didn’t make enough of her return, which has always bothered me. I would have loved for her to end up vying for control of the hospital when Alan was incapacitated by drugs, helping him through that crisis and finding herself at odds with Monica again on a different level, not as romantic rivals. She had such a long career! Acting in radio shows as a little kid, through her GH spots as few years ago. That’s quite a ride.
    • Damn I was hoping Lesley would be at Monica's memorial  Hoping GH gives Lesley an on screen memorial
    • Today's episode was serviceable, but the cliffhangers were disappointing!
    • I just got to the first set of Dante ranting at Gio episodes and I really need him to shut the hell up. Gio literally was at the party with people his own age and didn’t even know Dante’s kid snuck out to a party. Talking about I could charge you for serving a minor? This is just really stupid writing.
    • Back up a bit. Susan & Julie were best friends. Tom thought David too old for Julie & forbade her to see him. They continued but they had to sneak around.  So they couldn't always get together when they wanted to. One of THOSE nights David got drunk. At the same time for different reasons Susan had a huge fight with her parents, slammed out the door & went & also got drunk. David & Susan comforted each other & things took their usual course From that one  drunken night, Susan got pregnant. The 3 made a joint decision. He would marry her to give the child his name & then they would divorce. Is it any wonder this did not go according to plan. Bill Bell wrote this. So best friends became bitter enemies.   I am the exception because I had no problem suspending my disbelief to go along with the LaSalles. I love Marisa as much as I loved Mary. Reginald, always a problem to me, And, Robert Hogan had to be Vince. WhIle I'm at it I am glad that didn't do anything with making Scott a triplet.
    • All good @ChristosM, we appreciate you.  You’re awesome, thanks so much @rsclassicfanforever
