Seeing Mason and Julia on AW would have odd, although Julia probably would have fit in. I wonder what JFP would have done with her.

You are quite right. And another interesting thing about this time period (not just for DAYS, but all soaps) was that crucial moments in storylines *really* affected ratings. Big epic moments would impact numbers in definitely noticeable way.

But as you said, DAYS still fluctuated until 1995 when it stayed solid while others sank. Hooray for MarDevil! :)

Since you guys are interested, I'll snap shots of some other key weeks in the ratings from 1993, '94, and '95.

Shouldn't this be the week of August 9th?. cause as we all know Carly was buried in 1993, so the eighth then was not a monday but a sunday, and the following year in 94, the eighth was on a monday.

And I do not see Jane Elliot as Alex at all, too young and she already played a well-known GL character. Robin Strasser was thisclose from signing the dotted line and though it would have been awesome to see her against Michael Zaslow, she's not an Alexandra either. I really think Marj was the right pick. I wonder if they ever considered Marla Adams.

I think Constance Towers would have been a fantastic Alex recast.

Which reminds me, I should post the 97, 98, 99 ratings I have....I just keep putting it off. LOL

Please do. I have been DYING to see ratings from those years, especially DAYS in 97 during the Kristen saga and GL's 1998 ratings during the clone storyline. Also SuBe's and Passions's first 6 months. Can't wait for you to post them.

Just imagine if we still had this many soaps on the air today:

1969-1970 Season (HH Ratings)

Yeah, but this was when they were all half hour. It would be the entire day's programming these days! What's interesting on this list, for me, is EON. How quickly it fell...just a short five years later, it's being traded as P&G's lowest soap.

You are quite right. And another interesting thing about this time period (not just for DAYS, but all soaps) was that crucial moments in storylines *really* affected ratings. Big epic moments would impact numbers in definitely noticeable way.

Ya' think? I remember the ratings from this time period, because I was just getting into AMC and I didn't remember AMC fluctuating much, but hovering in the 6.0 to 7.0 range.

This one makes me laugh for the inclusion of the game shows. Boy, that Match Game was something, huh? The next highest game show was Hollywood Squares, tied for eighth and almost three whole ratings points below Match Game. Dumb Dora was so dumb. (How dumb was she?) She was so dumb, she thought soaps would <blank>

Just as a snarky aside, its funny SOD attributes Y&R's 9.7 rating to Cole and Victoria's marriage going up in smoke. Funny because that's all it would do for the next five years.

Do you know what GH got the week before? Did it cause a huge bump?

And it amazes me how far below OLTL is to AMC/GH. It came in between them yet they were a full point ahead.

I don't know the exact numbers, because i dont have the digest before this one, But it does say that their Luke and Laura's return help rocket the show to 2nd place, which i guess means that the show was lower before.

Sigh....I have this magazine. It's from the SOD mags before they put out actual ratings numbers. ATWT at #2.

A 9.7 for Y&R? Did Y&R ever hit a 10.0 in the 90's? I know they took over as No. 1 soap in the late 80's by default since GH lost steam, but damn, that's a high number! Ditto for everyone else. Clearly, the soaps were enjoying a post-holiday high (perhaps snowstorms?) and this was the last winter before the O.J. Simpson saga began.... dayumn!

The week after this...Y&R has a 9.6 and ATWT goes up to a 6.6 and GL goes up to a 6.2. AMC drops to a 7.0 and B&B drops to a 6.7 with the rest remaining the same.
