AMC: Show to go alot younger

I feel a little strange saying this, but while going through my old tapes a couple of weeks ago, I found a makeout scene with Julia Barr and Roscoe Born that was pretty hot. She is a good kisser, Brooke knows how to rev it up.

On those same tapes I found clips of the annoying Bobby showboating in front of Mr. Michael Delaney's class with Anita just eating that [!@#$%^&*] up and Scott just eating his heart out. It was so weird to see Shane McDermott all milquetoast on AMC when he was supposed to be some mini-stud muffin on Swan's Crossing. They used to have a promo with shots of him interspersed with shots of a peacock with some teen girl doing the voiceover, "Some guys are hot... and they KNOW it..." BOOOOOO!! But yeah, wasn't a big fan of that teen regime.

Eric, I *did* like Hayley and Brian, thanks for reminding me! Come to think of it, I liked the Terrence, Taylor, An-Li stuff too, as well as Julie, Nico, Cecily, Joey, Emily-Ann, Charlotte, but I'm not so sure about who were still teens. :P

I thought Roscoe and Julia worked well together. Casting Roscoe as a kiddie porn peddler, and the man who had gotten Laura into kiddie porn -- why why why why? I was so offended by this twist that I was too numb to even care about the later vigilante stuff which angered some fans at the time.

I actually liked Shane McDermott's Scott. He was sweet. I don't really remember that much of him though. He was the only person I ever liked Laura with. They were believable. I never believed Cosgrove with her. Frankly I think he would have been getting laid every night while Laura was at the boarding house telling Myrtle she wasn't peeling the potatoes properly.

What was so amazing is that he was both a pornographer and an international terrorist. Who finds the time?

I thought Laura and her big hair ate people.

With a rapid headwriter switch you can be anything.

Right after Laura left/was fired from AMC she was on Buffy for a cameo as a very, very angry student. I wonder if the casting person had some of the same thoughts we did.

By that point in the 90s she seemed so constantly henpecked, sour, and neurotic, with a touch of sanctimonious.

Don't forget the creased slacks.

If Brooke was so strong she wouldn't have given it up for all those ex-cons and crazy fuckers. Poor old Brooke. Didn't Pierce even leave her for his dead wife as well? Honestly, I mock her but I've grown fond of her. She's like a shelter puppy. And I would never have treated Julia Barr the way they did - however we feel about Brooke's trials, she was and is an institution on AMC, part of the firmament.

Yeah his wife came from South America and they took off to look for their daughter (I think he promised Brooke he'd return lol) I can appreciate the humour about her--by strong I just meant that by all rights she should have become one of those endlessly crying heroines...

I'm sure all international terrorists start off as kiddie pornographers... :P

Maybe Frankie's son with Mia will pop up in Pine Valley? Haley's and Mateo's children?

Well we know Haley's step son and Mateo's son is coming. I was gonna say no to Frankie's son even being mentioned again--but actually with Liza on the canvas it might be interesting to tie those families together. Hrmm, not sure.

To be clear I am not against teen characters at all (well that's not true..I'm slightly against them). But this approach they appear to be taking is the problem. Adding several new teens all at once and treating who they are going to be as an afterthought like "Oh we'll figure that out when Kreizman and Swajeski get here. It doesn't matter who they are, we just want teens. We'll slap a Montgomery or Santos nametag on a couple just to shut people up" is not a formula for success.

This sums it best for me

I just found myself laughing over and over at all Brooke's misfortunes - the trifurcated Pierce, Jim the pedophile terrorist, and then falling for the man who killed her daughter.

AMC's writers had the same problem w/ Brooke that they had with most of their show's best characters during the late '80's and early '90's. Once they had exhausted every possible story avenue for Brooke, what was left for the poor dear to do? If the show had been smart(er), they would've written her out during the "great purge" of 1990-91, and thus spare her (and us) all those ridiculous romances they put her through.

I think they should have paired Brooke with one man and had that keep. I think it was the revolving door of relationships, especially the Pierces, which damaged her more than anything.
