January 8, 201016 yr Member Since ATWT got cancelled I've been getting into the ABC Soaps more and stop watching the CBS soaps. I can't watch soaps on a network anymore when the network is purposely trying to kill them off one by one. CBS used to be my favorite destination to watch soaps and they be-trade its viewers. I actually think AMC and GH are slowly getting better especially GH as I've become a sucker for this Franco stuff. GH before Christmas was unwatchable at times but its really been on its A game lately. The family scenes with Michael and the rest of the kids has been a joy to watch. I think this upcoming year is going to be a good one for AMC, its amazing how the show has evaded from setting any new lows since its last low as it was so terrible in 09. It looks like the new beginning in LA might be what the doctor ordered for AMC. OLTL has been the second best soap the last couple of years and its quality continues. Overall, ABC is committed to their soaps and I'm getting behind them and steering away from CBS. Even if ABC cancels OLTL, I won't be as bitter as I was with CBS b/c I know ABC would still like to have it around but their hands will be tied. I'm hoping 2010 will be a better year for ABC Soaps as they deserve it, I think they've gone through enough bad times to get things turned around just like DAYS has. As for DAYS, the hottest soap on television right now is still keeping up the quality. They had a few bad weeks but have quickly gotten things turned around. I'm hoping they become the #2 soap on a regular basis. ATWT can still get picked up.

As for CBS trying to kill all of its soap one by one, I disagree with that. Even though I feel ATWT shouldn't have been canceled, I just see it as CBS trying to go ahead and cut their losses. Who knows when ATWT would have to switch to GL's production model full time. CBS gave GL way more chances, then NBC or ABC would have. I really think that CBS will be committed to keeping Y&R/B&B for awhile, but I do feel pretty soon if those shows want to survive they may have to be sold to CBS. That's at least how I took the statement Les Moonves (?) made about only the special soaps surviving.

The Executive Producer of ATWT said he didn't want to put ATWT in the same format as GL because GL didn't do so well with it.
January 8, 201016 yr Member ^ If things had gotten bad enough P&G/Telenext could have replaced him with EW or someone else who do the format. Thankfully, we will never know. I'd rather ATWT go out like this, then like GL.
January 8, 201016 yr Member Wow Y&R with a 3.9?? Last week with the Kish sex scenes....hehe...their romp....lol I wonder how high they went up.
January 8, 201016 yr Member No, it's more likely that more people had to work at least 50% of Christmas week and got Christmas-Eve through New Years Day off. That's been my experience. I usually work the week between Xmas and New Year's specifically because it's always dead. Plus people with paid vacation often have to use it or lose it so the last week of the year is a ghost town.
January 8, 201016 yr Member Wouldn't it be more likely that people were off work the Week of Christmas? I could see ratings have gone up more that week, but they didn't. Most people take off the week inbetween Christmas and New Years. I know I worked that week this year because it's so dead and you can get a lot done. Edited January 8, 201016 yr by JaneAusten
January 8, 201016 yr Member Congrats Y&R - I enjoy it and I'm clearly not alone. Are you still enjoying the Stacy Haiduk stories?
January 9, 201016 yr Member I think all too many viewers are done with ABC soaps. It's a shame how all three have fallen. At least AMC is trying to lure back their viewers. GH and OLTL- any hope? Doubtful to me. To be fair this has been true for much of the past decade hasn't it really? The ratings have continuously fallen, but their position within the soap ratings hasn't really...
January 9, 201016 yr Member Are you still enjoying the Stacy Haiduk stories? I know this is the wrong place - but...SH is fascinating to me. Romance was too fast, and makes Emily and Jack very stupid , but I like where it's going with the inevitable fallout.

We were talking earlier about how SH fans felt about the story since the dual role started, so I was curious.
