Can someone tell me why Farah F. ....JPL still work in daytime??? Can anyone not see that they suck as actors and bring nothing to their roles.

For FF, apparently, it`s all about a love for Charles Schultz and Woodstock. I see the road runner. That`s the Canadian point of view.

Jason Tam is Hawaiian, I believe. And the show obviously has taken a shine to him, because anyone else that tertiary to the canvas would've been gone by now. He's a really talented kid and I love him. I think this Ford thing is lame, but with the show being in the precarious state it is I also don't think they're going to dump Markko. They've had so many chances to do that and have never pulled the trigger, and instead beefed up his role again and again.

It's also notable that both Langston and Markko are written to be Latino. The minority character is not being singled out.

I've always been curious about Tam's background--he of course played hispanic (AND gay no less) in the A Chorus Line revival (he played Paul) on Broadway as seen in the docu Every Little Step.

but there has always been something buffoonish about Hawaiian music

The whole thing with Greg is something I still don't quite get. Terrell Tilford isn't a great actor, he was OK on GL (he never had any material anyway) and he was OK on his guest spots on Soul Food, where his sex appeal helped. I'm not entirely sure if TT's acting made those running around the hospital/chair-throwing scenes bad or if they were impossible to salvage. The early story with Rachel and Greg seemed so rushed and it was very difficult to care about Greg.

I know they may have had some plans with Greg and they fell through but I do wonder where this puts Rachel. I like Rachel/Sky but I don't know if I look forward to a story which may tell us that someone as beautiful and smart and likeable as Rachel would be second fiddle to someone like Gigi.

I just hope that no one at ABC Daytime decided, "Hey, those non-white faces brought in the low ratings" and that any of the current stories are to push most of those faces out, especially if it means any possibility of losing someone like Markko, who I think could be a great part of the show with the right material. Since no one at ABC Daytime cares that much about OLTL, perhaps that isn't happening.

LOL I feel like I've stepped into some rivalries or something I'm not aware of. I've always liked your posts as well as Vee's (and DeeDee's for that matter).

Not at all

I have never once said Shenell is Angela Bassett or couldn't be recast but the issues remain the same & it's annoying not to be able to discuss them because the end result will always be the same.

Now who's making assumptions?

The problem I have is that one minority group is making progress while other groups are being regressed at an alarming degree & the best the group making progress can do is sarcastic barbs & dismissive shoulder shrugs.

Especially when one of the main groups regressing horribly is the one the progressive group largely patterns itself after.

But it is what it is & it's always gonna be that way so there's no point in being surprised anymore.

So I was completely wrong to think you some how lopped me into that group by what you said? C'mon.

Back in 2007 when he debuted as the stereotypical "dangerous Latin teen who is good at breakdancing" (a personality that quickly evaporated when the show realized JT was just a sweet kid), Darn and I relentlessly mocked Langston and Markko's number in the high school musical, resulting in a "sorry you didn't like it, we worked real hard" reply on our blog from, apparently, Brittany Underwood herself.

Later that year when RC took over the characters became much improved, BU and JT really shone and I hope she found our apology.

Oh ok...I like Tams but passing him off as Hispanic is like passing me off as a German.....lol. It just doesnt wash with me. Langston as Latino/Hispanic?? Wow...she never gives me that vibe.

I'm sorry if you thought I insulted you. It wasn't at all my intention. I was referring to prior posts in the thread.

No offense taken and none intented

That's why they brought in the Montez family last year, they were supposed to be her uncle and cousins.

Matthew showed what could be interpreted as romantic interest in Destiny - or maybe just teenaged awkwardness - in like five scenes over the past year. The occasional accidental touch, the almost-kiss at the wedding. That was about it as far as I can recall. As for Destiny and Matthew's friendship being preserved, I see OLTL doing that in a way to salvage her role on the canvas in some fashion, whether she finds love elsewhere (which I suspect she will with some recurring player or another) or remains a talk-to. And no, I don't think that's all she should get. But it also doesn't indicate her being callously discarded by the show.

That speech from Shaun was dripping in condescension.

Frankly I don't want the character with Matthew ever nor do I want her in some afterthought relationship so she can have the gift of being someone's consolation prize.

But Destiny hasn't sacrificed her self-respect. The fact is Matthew just isn't that into her. He could have been if they'd recast.

The minute she swallows her pride to be Matthew when he couldn't even be assed to defend her nor own up to his attraction to the miracle child she will have.

As far as recasting if TPTB ever intended for there to be a triangle it would've already been done.

Most likely because they realized it was time to backburner his ass after Chairfest '09. And I can't blame them, really.

So why not recast?

TPTB want the diversity press & adulations but they don't want to invest in the characters beyond tokenism .

She barely has scenes with Tea or Todd; the majority of her work today is with Sky, Nora, Bo and Matthew, as well as the Evanses. Before that, there was also a lot of Cole. As for Rachel's future,

the new year's previews seem to hint at her being paired with Sky, as she becomes even more his confidant - and hides it from Greg.

Almost immediately after Tea ripped her apart on the stand she became Tea's BFF & almost her whole time in Seattle was spent babysitting Dani or coddling Tea about a mess Tea created.

It's only been the past couple of weeks that she's been with Sky & if the spoilers are right

she'll be dumping a character of color that could be recast with an actor she DOES have chemistry with to be paired with a white actor

Maybe not. But I can't see a compelling reason for Shenell Edmonds to be paired with Eddie Alderson given her current level of ability.

And I can't see rooting for Eddie Alderson with Kelly Missal when her character is repulsive & a million times worse than Shenell's.

As in, Dee's which make a number of assumption about how gay fans are viewing the story with Destiny - which raises the nasty spectre of a big ol' wacky gay vs. black POV debate.

I haven't made any assumptions but I'm tired of not being able to discuss race without being snidely dismissed because we can't deal with the often unpleasent implications of unreturned intersectionality amongst minority groups.

I really liked Rachel and Greg's story up til the chair-tossing contest. Now he's just kind of silly but I thought the acting and writing worked well. I didn't find it terribly rushed. I thought they did a very layered, in-depth portrait of Rachel as she was after prison and various traumas, and somewhat of Greg as well.

As for possibilities with Sky, we can make the meta-inference on "second fiddle," but no matter what is written, we can't help the fact that he has slept with Gigi first. It's not going to go back and be retconned out of existence. All you can do is go forward.

I just hope that no one at ABC Daytime decided, "Hey, those non-white faces brought in the low ratings" and that any of the current stories are to push most of those faces out, especially if it means any possibility of losing someone like Markko, who I think could be a great part of the show with the right material. Well, Destiny was Frons's idea. When he debuted at ABC he invoked Ellen Holly, then proceeded to give OLTL no black characters or stories whatsoever, other than Van. I think he loves the idea that he alone is responsibility for racial diversity on ABC. He just loses interest quickly. Randi the Valley Girl OTOH remained frontburner, the question is how much of that was Frons and how much was Pratt.

Are you suggesting that because Jessica Morris stuck around for five years, we should also keep Shenell around in a show of fairness?

So it's fine to take hardlines with minority actors who already are given next to nothing & expected to spin it into gold while their caucasian counterparts get free reign to do whatever until they fall into something that works?

I think two wrongs do not make a right. No one raised hell when Javier Morga went poof as Tico, either. Or Tobias Truvillion as Vincent. And why? Because they were bad.

I didn't think Tobias was bad.

Javier Morga...well ok yeah he was bad.
