Members DRW50
GH vets have been shoved to the side for 30 years now. At least the big names, like Jessie and Steve and Audrey, were kept on the show by Gloria Monty and her successors, but then even that was no longer deemed necessary, and JFP/Luza/Frons dumped Rachel Ames as soon as they had a chance. And yet bored Maurice Benard and Steve Burton, who contribute nothing to the show and haven't even been around that long, are considered totally irreplaceable. Members LoyaltoAMC
For some reason ABC treats its AMC & OLTL vets relatively well (vets like Julia Barr and Michael Storm are the exception), but treats its GH vets like dog crap. This goes back to the Gloria Monty days. Yeah she kept them on the contract, but she trimmed Emily McLaughlin's and Rachel Ames' guarantees to once a month, if I'm not mistaken. Members SFK
As a casual viewer, let me ask you regulars... is it just me, or does SB's smugness and arrogance just stink right off the screen? Even moreso than MB. I can't quite describe it, but I sense this isn't Jason I'm having a reaction to, but rather his portrayer.
Members DRW50
Yes, and Monty fired Peter Ames and Susan Brown. At least those like Emily McLaughlin and John Beradino got to work and keep their health insurance up to the end. Anna Lee didn't even get that, and then so many others have been dumped on. I think it's because GH was the show which was seen as going up in the ratings by shiny young things, so the vets weren't necessary. Of course, in time, the shiny young things were also treated horribly by GH. I guess we can wait for the day when Bernard, Burton, Tyler Christopher, and other lumps get the same cold treatment, but something tells me Burton in particular will get the red carpet treatment even if he just shows up to teach cast members how not to blink. Members Southofnowhere
Back in 2002 when RC was HW writer of AMC he planned on bringing Amanda back(They even had a casting call out) and hooking her up with Bianca. That was back when Tim Dillion was on the show. Just going from things ER has said in interviews and from what she has told fans i thing it's pretty much a fact that their was talk about turning Binks straight and she refused. Not sure what the plans where but i don't think Michael Cambias was planned to be a short-term character.
Members DRW50
I can see that interpretation. To me he just looks bored. I try to avoid his real life stuff since as years ago I was put off by his arrogant comments. I remember those rumors. And they used to have Tim make phone calls home and they implied things were very bad.
Members LoyaltoAMC
I forgot his exact comment, but didn't he say something totally disparaging of Jackie Zeman a few years back. Again, don't recall the exact quote, but I remember reading it and thinking, who the hell does this guy think he is?!?!
Members dragonflies
If a writer is going to write something bad for a vet, I'd rather them be on less, than have their character(s) hacked to pieces
Members DRW50
I can't remember. I remember "jokes" about Sarah Brown back around the time she played Carly, which were probably harmless, but which annoyed me, like going on about how she tried to give him the tongue. He seemed to have some issues with her and I thought that came out in a passive-aggressive way.
Members Paul Raven
On Y&R we had the mention of Patty and the phone call that was never followed through. After her facelift,Kay's doctor,Alan seemed romantically interested. He mentioned a sister,Rachel and the hints were that she was possessive. But alan was quickly written out. Members SFK
I think that's when my friend read for Amanda, she had also read for Babe. Was this when Amanda was being called "Sybella Chase" in the breakdown? Or maybe that was later. My friend has a very exotic look so when she told me that she read for Babe I really scratched my head and she unloaded on me how upset she felt about all of that excitement/anxiety when they were going for something so different. When I saw CS as Amanda however, the look thing did make more sense. How did CS come out of James Kiberd and Kate Collins anyway??
Members LoyaltoAMC
Another obscure AMC one: In the early 80s when Jenny & Greg were huge, there was talk of bringing on Greg's older sister Diana. It was during the height of the Prince Charles/Princess Di heydey, and Greg kept referring to her as "Lady Di." Greg mentioned her a lot and Enid even took trips to visit her. Rumor was that they were bringing her on as a love interest for Cliff after Nina left him for Steve. Di never made it to screen. They talked about her so much, they obviously had something planned. Members DRW50
They also seemed to have a lot more plans for that Andrew J. McClosky drifter character, the one whose wife had died. He just sort of vanished, with some quick offcamera exit with Hope. When he first started they put him in a lot of scenes with Katherine and that went nowhere. Then we found out he was a doctor and that didn't go anywhere either.
Members LeClerc
I was looking forward to the Miranda/Cassadine angle being explored. A couple of others from around the same time (Culliton's tenure): Kevin's father, Victor Collins, was supposed to turn out to be Victor Cassadine, which played into why Stefan was so interested in having Alexis help Kevin with his legal problems (from stalking Felicia I think?). That got scrapped as a result of Kevin and Lucy being spun-off into Port Charles and/or Richard Culliton moving over to PC. Culliton also was planning on bringing on a teen daughter for Alexis. There were a few scenes where Ned found Alexis writing secret letters to some mysterious person, who would have turned out to be the daughter. However that got scrapped and that casting call morphed into Elizabeth Webber, who the interim writers between Culliton and Guza brought on.
