I said this earlier in the thread, but I wouldn't be opposed to a recast of Palmer. I want to see the Cortlandt / Chandler feud reignited, especially if they showcase the Petey / Colby romance. However, David Canary would need to stay long term.

Who would you recast as Palmer?

Good question. I don't know. I think the role is recastable though. I love James Mitchell but if Edward Quartermaine can be recast then Palmer Cortlandt can be recast.

I can't really think of a name actor in that age group who would be a good fit. Anyone have any ideas?

If they did a recast, they'd do the same thing GH did with Edward and DAYS did with Mickey: go younger. Mitchell is close to 90, but IF they did a new Palmer, he'd probably be more around Canary's age or a little older. Nicolas Coster, perhaps?

Oh, good one. I like that.

That may be, but I clearly recall the soap magazines reporting that the story was axed due to the Oklahoma bombing. I've never heard of RM's complaints before.

I clearly recall that same thing, but I also clearly recall that Mattson gave the quotes to Digest (and I'm pretty sure to Weekly, as well) about her provoking the network to act. She said she couldn't, in good conscience, go through with taping those scenes given the circumstances... and asked for a re-write.

I would bring back Ross Chandler, as he has ties to both of those families and could help serve as a mentor figure and a foil for other business characters they may want to bring in. And he does not have the heavy ties to the Martins that end up damaging a lot of otherwise interesting tycoon/antihero/villains in the last decade.

I know we need an older generation on this show, but NO. Do NOT recast Palmer. What a thought!

Then a bunch of "newbies" it is. Mona's dead, Phoebe's dead, Myrtle's dead, Joe and Ruth are about to retire...

Another good suggestion. Plus, I've said before, Julie Chandler would be an ideal character to bring back.

Sorry Eric. I would've had the same reaction a few years ago, but I think enough time has passed where it would be ok to recast Palmer. The show needs to reestablish some of these core families and the Cortlands need Palmer.

I would actually love for the show to bring in a new generation of Tylers, but the chances are pretty much zero that that will ever happen.

I would love to have Ross back to fight Adam for his company instead of JR and/or Scott.

Julie would be a good idea, too, since she connects the Chandlers to the Kanes.

I disagree about Palmer. If James Mitchell can't come back or is retiring, then I think the show should kill Palmer off and and have Ross return to try to take over his assets. Imo, Ross has the potential to be an intriguing multilayered villain with connections to most of the other characters.

ICAM that there is zero chance of the Tylers returning, but I'd love for Chuck & Donna's offspring to start arriving in Pine Valley. They must have had an offscreen litter after all these years!

Kill off? No murders please. Die in peace, ok.

I think the show made a big mistake in killing off Chuck and Donna's son Johnnny, since he could've been the future of the Tylers. I always wondered why Agnes wrote off all the original Tylers, save Phoebe, and morphed them into the Wallingfords, which were pretty much comic relief. She killed off Ann and her daughter with Paul, and never gave Kelly and Linc kids of their own. Has Agnes ever given an explanation for doing away with the Tylers? I wonder too that if Michael E. Knight hadn't clicked so incredibly as Tad from the get-go, the Martins would've lasted this long? Don't forget, by the time he joined the show, Tara and Jeff had long been written out.

I think the Martins would have lasted, Joey would have eventually been aged, and Ruth was still an important part of the canvas during the '80s.

That's a good point about the Tylers. Was the Ann recast not popular with viewers? And Linc had been recast multiple times, hadn't he? Then Chuck was also written out.

I hope Lorraine, if she has the power and the ability, can bring back some old families, because I think the current Martins and the current Chandlers are not going to cut it. If David Canary is only going to be on the show until sometime next year, then the thought of the Chandlers left with just JR and with Scott...it's not going to be easy.
