Short term characters who took off

I remember when they planned to pair Doris with Buzz - I actually liked that idea, so GL dropped it in three seconds, much like the dynamite storyline of Olivia falling for her rapist. So then Doris arbitrarily became a lesbian and Buzz inexplicably became involved with Lillian, that grinning gorgon of death, otherwise known as "The Only Available Woman Of A Certain Age Left So Dammit, Buzz, You're Gonna [!@#$%^&*] Her."

I liked Doris/Buzz too, although I didn't really mind Buzz with Lillian, as they were both so over the top (and they had a good scene where she broke up with him because he reminded her of her abusive husband). I did get tired of the whole, "They're old people and they're making out!" jokes, that type of thing in public is a bit tacky at any age.

I know they had Doris with Alan for a while too but I guess that was never supposed to go anywhere.

Kevin Fisher (Y&R)

Cane Ashby (Y&R)

Jana Fisher (Y&R)

Oh, and my personal favorite: Pamela Douglas (B&B )!

He was originally going to be an evil con after Jill's money but TPTB liked Goddard so they kept him on as the "real" Chancellor heir.

Oh. For some reason back then I thought they were going to do the story about the con guy with a heart of gold, redeemed by love or his new family, etc.

I wonder if they were going to have him end up like Plum or Ji Min.

hmm... Interesting, I didn't know that. I remember back in 1999 when she said she was supposed to be on every other Tuesday. I was just assuming it was supposed to be short term but since fans loved her, it developed into longer.

she was only suposed to be on every tuesday, i dont think it was every other tuesday. but it was def something about tues and thurs i remember that.

but she had a 3 year contract. she was brought on a minor/supporting player. i wish soaps would do this again. no one needs to come on like gangbusters in our face all day every day. lol.

VI's Lujack was supposed to be a three-day role, but positive audience response was such that three days became two years! :) Ditto David on AMC: three months has become 12 years, minus the three months that stretched to 20 months on Y&R! :)

Gillespie or "G" on GL was somewhat well-received, so he came back as Grady Foley and was not well-received.

Doris on GL was I think originally intended to be a short-term character only during court scenes. Bringing on Ashlee made her part of the fabric of the show.

During the 35th anniversary she said that she was amazed she'd been with the show for 35 years, remembering how when she got the part, she thought her initial contract of 3 years seemed like a lifetime. Erica's more of a secondary character that became a lead.

Michael B. Jordan as Reggie on AMC. Oh, well.

Nah. I wish Reggie did take off, but unfortunately, McTavish just wasn't that into him when she took over five months after MBJ's Reggie was introduced. By the end of his run, he was a glorified babysitter for Lily -- who was getting story after story and even romance after romance. And then didn't get a send off.

OLTL:

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned Todd Manning. The character was only supposed to be for a few episodes, and didn't even have a name at first. He was just "Fratboy #2."

I recall Reggie and Joni (played by the amazing Amanda Seyfried, love her) being fairly popular. And didn't they basically twist story so Jack could adopt Reggie (and then forget he exists, argh)?

Esther (Y&R) was originally a day player maid.I think Jeanne Cooper came up with the name Esther.

On DOOL,Pete Jannings was a 2bit hood and went on to become a major player.Don't know why:Michael Leon was pretty awful.

Whatever happened to him?

Reggie/Joni & Reggie/Dani were both popular.

Now Jack acts like he only has two children.

Ugh.
