Seeing this latest trend in best/worst threads, I thought to start my own.

Who are some of your favourite daytime divas, those bigger-than-life, magnetic, super stylish femmes fatales of daytime? It can be anyone from a long-forgotten guest star in the '70s to the main female protagonist on the show. Villainess, fairy godmother, the characters ethics and morality are not the point.

And not to forget: is there a particularly soapy name of a female character you like? Like e.g. Dominique Deveraux (not daytime, but hey), Angelique DuVal, Helena Cassadine, those French/Italian/German/Greek sounding names, that sort of thing.

:)

P. S. If a mod could change the b in the title to a capital, I'd be grateful.

Cat, we posted at the same time, didn't even know you were going to mention that gentleman in your banner.

Yes, Joan wears real fur, and lots of it. Society is so fickle, we are plagued with a sheep mentality so a good portion of the population will flip-flop from anti-fur to fur's okay based on the whims of celebrity and fashion. Then there are people like Joan and Susan Lucci who have never ceased to wear it regardles of political correctness. As you said, there is nothing like real fur, and it is a personal choice... a debatable personal choice, but a choice nonetheless.

Take your Grandma's coat to a furrier and have it turned into a reversible lining of a really nice cloth or raincoat. :D

D'oh. I just realized that my Fantastic!Johnny Weir sig has some fur in it! :o

Until Sunday's close of the Winter Olympics. :)

Fahntahzteck!

LOL, he is just one of those characters who I have the urge to both punch and laugh along with.

Awww. No punching! I just want to put him in my pocket and take him out when in need of a well-timed bitchy aside or tassle-shimmy.

Joan has a fur cape that Dennis Basso gave her after she walked down his runway in 2000. It's worth $250,000.

She wears lots of fur and the real thing, she doesn't give a flying damn about political correctness. All she knows is that fur and Joan Collins go together like gold and diamonds.

We are on the same page, I was going to mention some of the furs I've seen her photographed in including that sable cape out in London, but I was veering OT. Point blank, you aren't going to convince certain people of a certain age that they can't wear their skins. They are SO before political correctness, and quite frankly, I don't think they take kindly to being told what they can and cannot do or being manipulated by trends. Fur wearers I can think of off the top of my head, Susan Lucci, Julia Barr, Erika Slezak, Robin Strasser (she's gone back and forth on the issue), Hilary B. Smith, Linda Dano, Marj Dusay, Eileen Fulton... the ladies of The View (maybe not Elizabeth?)...

Oh dear, I know I'll not be liked for saying this, but I do have an issue with fur. How recently did La Lucci and Slezak wear them?

If they're in New York, a couple of hours ago most likely. :P

Susan looks a little tipsy in that sable photo.

Those first photos, I think she's skinned Elmo. Good for her :)

LOL, I think she kinda looks like Jessica Lange too. The eyes/forehead.

Wouldn't you kill to party with a drunk SuLu?

Ha! Yeah, it's coats like that one that convince me she has a closet full of furs. She seems to think outside the box and go for some funkier pieces. Not that this is really an issue for her, but with the growth of the anti-fur movement in the late '80s, it was a big trend for furriers to start shearing and dyeing furs technicolor like that coat so they looked more faux. You've probably seen the movie Soapdish with Sally Field, her character wears bright red and yellow sheared mink coats that I'm sure a lot of viewers have mistaken for fake.

Do you think that the anti-fur trend has died down? I had read a few years ago that furriers were able to stop the losses by marketing to clients they may have paid less attention to in the past.

I personally would never wear fur and I can understand why people don't like it but I'd probably never want to make an issue out of it with anyone, especially since a lot of people who do wear fur will beat you down if you get between them and their coat.

All this talk about smoking is making my brain itch. I gave up recently but now I'm craving one to savor for this evening.

Have you, Cat, had any experiences with Nat Sherman cigarettes? B):P

Bad Cat! NO! bcowboy.gif

Yeah, I'm the same--like my vegetarianism it's something I believe in for myself but I'm not militant if someone else doesn't (and my mom does have a gorgeous mink--but it was her grandmother's and is an antique which somehow justifies it in my eye--just like my piano which I got handed down from my great grandmother--it's over 100 years old with gorgeous ivory keys--and I wouldn't trade it in for the world LOL).

(And I'd love to party with a drunk SuLu :D Preferably to disco.)

Only once, when I was offered one a cigarette break at a party (it looked black-and-white in the night-time light but I now realize it must have been those black-and-golds). I have passed the store on Fifth Ave a number of times, though.

Susan Lucci in a RED mink? Honey, you must have drag queens genuflecting at your feet right about now.
