I did read all of those but then what plays out on screen seems inconsistent. In her last scenes, Hope isn't drinking and seems strong with Alan - but is then off. I can see maybe the actress was fired but seems odd actress would have had issues with the story. Same with Mike. Why would he be unhappy being paired with a powerhouse actress unless he really wanted a younger pairing? And if the show did want him off why plant the seeds of a storyline with Mike? Just makes me think there was more to it ...

Stewart was fired by Gail Kobe. Depending on what story you hear, Kobe fired him when Stewart was playing a golf game while on vacation. How true that story is, I've never been sure. As to why he was let go...it appeared that Stewart was resisting the Mike/Alexandra/Lilian triangle. I have no idea why. Pam Long did want to write for Mike, and she finally must have found a story she was satisfied with, as Mike didn't really have a strong storyline for quite awhile. Mike was more of the peripheral character at that point (when someone needed legal help or advice).

I have a feeling if the Mike/Alexandra/Lillian triangle would have continued to develop, there would have been ramifications between Beth and Lujack's relationship as well.

So Vanessa and Justin had sex? I never knew that. She sure got around in those early years. I guess she did it to get to Ross, but Justin's so hot, I'm glad someone realized it.

I guess Marland was using Floyd, along with the Reardons, to establish a class system in Springfield, but Floyd just comes across as a sour jerk in moments like that - not really anything like he was in the earlier episodes.

I had forgotten that Elizabeth didn't know that Jackie and Justin were Philip's bio parents at this point. The whole thing confuses me. In one of the April 1979 episodes posted, during Philip's 123th illness (I guess this one was his 456th), it seemed like Justin knew Jackie was the bio mother. When did he learn he was the father?

It's a shame Nola and Morgan couldn't be actual friends. I think they work well together.

Guiding Light was Kevin's first job after filming Friday the 13th, though the movie was released after he began on the soap.

I could not agree more about the disastrous miscasting of Jackie. Carrie Mowery would have been a far better casting choice to replace Lezlie Dalton as the listless, almost somnambulant Elizabeth. Potter and Marland made far too many mistakes in casting and story decisions, mistakes that undermined the solid foundation laid by the Dobsons. The Dobsons had created and nutured highly complex interactions between Ed/Rita/Holly/Mike/Elizabeth/Alan/Jackie/Justin and Hope. The decision to ignore Maureen Garrett and Lenore Kasdorf's wishes while essentially changing Jackie into Elizabeth, resulted in a collapse of the foundation and relegated front-burner Mike and Ed to the sidelines.

What were Lenore's wishes?

I've always been so confused by Lezlie Dalton's status on the show at this point. I thought she wanted to leave, but she is phased in and out so many different times in 1980, it's tough for me to tell.

    • Yet another reason some of the characters need servants.  Since some of the sets do not include front doors, servants could answer the off-screen door and escort guests into the living room(s).
    • I remember them showing a map of Michigan during one of Rachel's adventures, and you are probably correct here.  But the map may have been used in 1978, when Sven kidnapped Rachel and characters were searching for her. They had no idea Sven had hidden her right there on the Cory estate.  So that's just another possible sighting of the infamous map.
    • The one thing that drives me nuts about this show is that all these wealthy people never lock their doors and everyone just walks in without even knocking.  I live out in the boonies with no neighbors close by, but I always have my doors locked day or night!
    • All the best people are at the bottom of the list. Lauren, Michael, Chloe, Traci, Ashley, Mariah, Sharon, Amanda, Devon. I’d rather see more of these people than anyone in the top 10.. (with the exception of Jack and Diane) because I am still enjoying their scenes.
    • The live video tribute to Drake last night with current and former actors Thread with link to video: https://boards.soapoperanetwork.com/topic/68987-days-currentformer-actors-live-video-tribute-for-drake-hogestyn  They said that the episodes were filmed out of order over a span of time. As we already knew, re: the upcoming memorial service (not spoiling the airdate here)... the memorial service was taped *before* Drake passed away, and then the studio was on a preplanned hiatus, and the actors learned of his passing during the hiatus. New info from the video last night, is that some of what recently aired (such as June 3rd episode ) was taped *after* the hiatus, so after Drake passed away. Maybe I misunderstood what Martha Madison said, but it sounded that way. My god, I don't know how the actors filmed it, especially Diedre.
    • I did not expect Peter Reckell to be the one to break my heart today. Incredible scenes with Bo and his family.
    • Barbara, to me, is a mixture of Florence Ballard and Betty McGlown/Barbara Martin (both McGlown and Martin were part of the Primettes before they became a trio and were renamed the Supremes).
    • Maeve Kincaid said in interviews that she misses slapping Jordan Clarke's face..something along the lines "He knew how to take a slap!"   Or voodoo dolls..LOL!
    • Staci Greason was in Paris during this live tribute, which would have been in the middle of the night where she was. So Fairman arranged to pretape Greason earlier in the same day, and then spliced her part into the end of the video after the live feed, and it's all on the same youtube.
    • Agree to disagree. I like it. No doubt it's different. It's supposed to be. Is it dated? Yes, but then that's natural, it's from 1977. I think that reviewer needed to watch a few more episodes. It is clever but not precocious. The role reversal IMO works & well. The best thing I could advise anyone interested, is to try it for yourself, you can always quit it if you don't like it. As much of it as some of us were able to gain access to are up on the Internet Archive & also on my Rumble acct. If you need further directions, PM me.
