I agree with this. I found Olivia off-putting for years, mostly because I loathed San Christo-Hell. Having her Round Robin the Spaulding and Lewis men and then hitch her trailer to the boredom known as Natalia was the last straw for me with Chappell on GL. FF material for me.

I know what you are saying, but if my work told me...yea...we will call you when we need you and just pay you for those days, I would look elsewhere too. It shows you are not valued...especially when they keep Cole around playing that misogynitic tw@t he was playing. It also show poor planning. They did that to Marj during Rauch, and just when the FauxAnnie was starting to get interesting because Alex was ready to take her on, they didn't write for her so she said...yea later, and moved to AMC

Though Beth Chambelin worked more on recurring then she seemed to on contract so...

Jessica was raped?  I never liked her much but this long term character who was a black woman of power..they had someone rape her and NO ONE thought..uh, let's not do this?

At ATWT in the period we are talking about Ellen Wheeler was either one of the Directors or a Line Producer or as I mentioned, was shadowing Goutman ... absolutely none of that would have had anything at all to do with any story, content, plot, etc. What makes you think she was heavily involved in a story?

Contract & recurring are not somehow big issues that automatically connote employee philosophy or worth. They're just facts of life of the entertainment industry which can be used correctly or misused. Now, I've said ad nauseum what a huge mistake it was with Jerry & why. My point is that Wheeler's error was in taking him for granted & thinking that good ole Jerry would continue to be there. Mark Derwin blew that up! The show & us fans paid a heavy price for Wheeler being like a bad boyfriend, if you'll go to that spot with me.

You are questioning JFP & firings & treatment of women at AW? Didn't happen there? I'm questioning because it was so egregious, so I'm trying to make sure I understand.

It's like there are two different JFPs - one fully in power & one on the way out with distinctly waning power. We have to remind ourselves that actors - some of them - like this person. I doubt that either VW or KZ tangled with JFP, but VW was in a position to tell a fan daily whatever the fans needed to know about goings on. That is why her plan to kill off Donna failed! We knew & began an organized protest as soon as it was said at the studio. Of course that's a bittersweet victory because we saved Donna but lost Frankie, dammit.

To be clear, I was referring to Wheeler as a director on ATWT and she was directing at the time of the Marshall/Jessica storyline and she had made comments during that ridiculous storyline that made me go "ugh."  The fact that P&G okayed the rape storyline for Jessica is just insane to me, but that's for another thread.

As for JFP, I am talking about workplace treatment. I'm not talking about casting decisions or the way her storylines ended up misogynistic messes. It's possible there was something going on at AW but I don't recall. I know there was a lawsuit at GH and a threat of a lawsuit at OLTL because of JFP.

I don't know of a lawsuit threat at OLTL. I'd be interested in hearing about that.

The GH legal mess was amateur night and completely avoidable by Jill, but she just had to have Jensen Buchanan ASAP. In the end that whole year in the saddle torpedoed her career as any kind of creative executive at ABC.

On GH, there's also the Kari Wurher lawsuit for being fired for being pregnant which is what happened to Laura Bonarrigo-Koffman on OLTL (who threatened to sue). I don't know if LBK actually sued, but Wuhrer's claim did make the papers, but I've never been able to find any resolution to it.

I never saw Olivia as man crazy as much as desperately needy and prone to melodramatic romances. For that reason, her being involved with Natalia didn't really bother me. If GL had lasted the relationship never would have stuck anyway, because Olivia just never was going to be happy.

I was more surprised when I learned that she had been involved with Frank and Buzz.

Thank you. I never saw the comments. I didn't watch her GL run very closely but I'm not sure she had anything as repulsive in terms of assault and consent. I might say "Jammy" due to the origins, but I know many loved that story. Matt sleeping with Dinah when she had brain damage might be another, although maybe she was meant to be A-OK by then.

She had a "zest for life!" So Liv being overly sexual I could see her just going wherever the wind blew.  I think some people just read more into this romance as it was one of the few featured on soaps (never got why people liked the ATWT gayling storyline.) and it actually had a beginning middle and end...and despite it being gay, it was pretty old fashioned soap, with longing and road blocks that came from within the character and not an outside force, and believe me I thought Natalia was dull as dirt.

I gotta say tho. Liv and Phillip were hot as hell. Funny that the actors didn't really like each other that much.

It was incredibly easy to look at Olivia & her relationship history & conclude that she tried over & over again with so many different men & had failure after failure after failure & then BIM BAM BOOM she found true love & a love where she was able to be giving, generous & unselfish in love with a woman.

Besides the fact that some women aren't gay & there's just this one woman they are 100% vulnerable to.

GL never tried to sell that they were gay, just that they were in love.

That scene with Olivia & Phillip in her hotel room, directed by Bruce Barry where they end up on the floor between the bed & the wall, where his bicep completely covers the top of her body making it appear they're naked is one of the

    • Whoa. She should have fought like hell to get that. Was it the greatest show ever? No, but it had a fantastic cast and was practically guaranteed to last multiple seasons because of its star power. Could have certainly led to bigger and better things. If it had flopped she could have always gone back to soaps. Judith Light broke through on a sitcom where she was basically second banana to Tony Danza. That grew into a very busy and distinguished career. The woman is still regularly booked to this day.
    • I could understand her being frustrated by the fact that she'd been in the business 10+ years at that point, and probably couldn't even get in the door. But then again, she'd already gone out for pilot season once (that we know of) and she and  her agent knew a 35-ish woman had a very difficult time in Hollywood. I know she did a few guest spots, but other than Designing Women, nothing I saw--not even a Murder She Wrote, and that show had tons of ex-soapers on it. I mean, God bless Marilu Henner, but even having been on Taxi, she couldn't get arrested for years either.
    • I didn't rewatch that period, so I'm not really sure how much Bill is on. I recall something about him living at the boardinghouse. I think Van made Matt his guardian, and why she didn't name Josh would be a mystery to me, other than the HW decided they needed to keep Bill in Matt's sphere. Nola is also his aunt, although they don't know each other well, and Van wouldn't have trusted her anyway. There's Dinah---but she's unreliable. Billy gets out of jail around NYE.

    • That's on Kimmer. As someone posted above...she was offered roles in pilots but she would be part of an ensemble or supporting. She didn't want that so she came back to GL. I don't know what she thought would happen..someone offering her "Here's Kimmer!" or The "Zimmer Comedy Powerhouse Hour" variety show..but her housefrau fans did not have the same pull in HW as they did on the soaps. Forbes and Watros knew that you had to take small parts to get noticed ands start a career in primetime. I know she was in consideration for the wife in Evening Shade, but when you go up against Marilou Henner, the soap diva looses. I could see her frustrated in a role like that, where she has to be the understanding wife with a bit of sass, but she could have made it work, if it wasnt for her huge ego.  I think it would have been an issue haveing all the powerhouse comedy actors surrounding...(lets face it..Alice Ghostly woudl have wiped the floor with her...) but it would have been a good launching padd.
    • Oh good, so I don't have to wait too long haha. I'm glad she cares about seeing Bill graduate. I'm guessing I'm in for a bumpy ride between Bill and Matt, if he's going to be his caretaker? Who else could it be, maybe Josh?

    • Maeve makes a few sporadic appearances, but returns full-time the next spring/summer. She's back in time to see Bill and Michelle graduate, although she skulks around town and wasn't going to tell anyone she was alive. She comes back wearing this HUGE hat---which was a throwback to the old Vanesaa. lol.
    • Aww, yeah it's very heartbreaking and I mostly enjoyed the Nola/Vanessa scenes because they finally let their walls down and came together in a beautiful moment. So Nola was at the hospital already and bumped into Vanessa, who had MRI papers that fell out of her hand and Nola went down to pick them up and asked her what was going on. Later, Vanessa confided in her about her disease. Then, Nola told Zachary on the beach (he prodded her and already alluded to knowing something was going on with Van), and then Vanessa found out she told him and got a little upset. Now, however, Nola is strangely absent while everyone is mourning her death. I'm curious if Nola will actually tell people about her MRI results. I would assume so. Only Nola, Rick, Roger and Zachary know anything, although there is the MRI results letter from the mail that everyone has missed seeing at home. I'm sure it'll all come out at some point. But... I just saw the next episode and the opening already cut Vanessa out and added Dahlia and Zachary. I guess Maeve is gone for a long time

That will break my heart seeing the town continue to mourn her and assume she's dead. I can't wait to see her return though, and I have to imagine feelings will be torn between loving that she's alive and being very angry she did all of this. While I hate what Vanessa is doing, I'm happy to hear it's not totally against her character. I think you're right, had Henry still been around, she wouldn't put him through this. I'm still surprised she is with Bill, though. I get her feelings on Matt, because she wants him to move on, but still very heartbreaking. I'm glad this was Maeve's choice to have a break vs. being fired.    Interesting, so I'm curious to see who they eventually pair Phillip with. They're flirting with a Phillip/Annie pairing, but I'm not sure if they'll go that route with the Jeva drama, her growing pill addiction, and Rick's past with her.  Ugh, yeah I'm so sad to see Bridget do a total 180 in the last couple weeks. She has always been a strong character from what I've seen, but now she's just bending over backwards to get Hart to love her and it reeks of desperation. Yeah, sure, this new Hart is eye candy, but I'm already tired of seeing Hart/Dinah have sex all over Springfield and the Cayman Islands haha.
    • Yes.  I remember them together during the early summer of 1986.  They didn't share scenes again for 30 years until 2017 because Carrie wasn't on the show when Anna returned during Sydney's kidnapping.
