So I found this photo of Alan and Beth's (gag) wedding. Now I need someone to explain something to me:

How did RICK end up being ALAN's best man?

LOL - Oh my! They all look shocked... did someone interrupt the wedding? Let me guess, Phillip? Lillian and Beth look great in this photo.

@alwaysAMC Glad you are still doing your detailed reviews. They are still bringing back memories for me. I did not remember Meta popping up so often in the Ben story.

I guess this is the point when they are trying to redeem him somewhat. I do think Hunt Block made the transition work but they had taken him very far earlier in the year so I can see why many didn't buy it.

I don't know if the show ever quite finds a good story for Brittany Snow in her time as Daisy/Susan, but I remember thinking immediately that she had a real star quality. The casting director at that time was able to find many gems.

I do remember being touched by Jenna's goodbye scenes/dreams, especially with Vanessa. That was nicer than most of her second run.

Beth being put into Spaulding with zero training and acting cracked out for a year was nonsense, but that's what soaps were becoming by this point. Spaulding did have a lot of potential at this time with Alex back and so many characters moving in, but it doesn't quite come to plan.

I felt like B&E were trying to write Alex a little more like how she should have been written. I totally get why Marj left, she 100% made the right choice, but I do wonder what might have been.

It's interesting you mention Mindy's exit as being low-key because while it was it was also one of the only exits of that era I appreciated. IIRC, she left because she didn't want to testify against Rick for his role in Eve's death. Those were some of the only Barbara Crampton Mindy scenes I appreciated.

The Annie material reads worse than it plays. Signy Coleman's hard edge made me more involved. Looking back, beyond the impossible task of replacing Cynthia Watros, I think she was a little bit too hard for GL, which was a very vibrant show.

Happy they're bringing back those memories! :)

I forgot to mention earlier when @Spoon asked me my predictions for the Ben character going forward, and they've been teasing that he might be the young college kid that slept with Selena. So I'm assuming they'll continue with that, which would be interesting to see him interact with other characters.

I do agree that Brittany Snow was a great find, proven by her current success, but my early days of Susan are not positive. She's got an agenda it seems and her whining is getting annoying. I know she stays for a while, so I'm looking forward to getting through that journey and see how her character matures.

The Beth thing seems like a pure plot move just to further her into Vanessa/Matt's drama. You're right, it doesn't really make sense, and she never really seemed like the type to me that wants to work, especially from the lowest position on the totem pole haha.

I actually really like Signy Coleman. She's unique in certain ways which I like. I just think it's a stretch for her to be Annie, but I'm going along with the ride haha. I think the truth serum drug is getting out of hand and lasted way longer than it should though.

Re: Mindy, I can't quite remember if that's why she left (testifying against Rick), but here are my quick notes I made when watching her exit from 1995. This was very early into my GL watch journey, so I didn't have as much context on the Mindy character and the recasts before her when making these notes:

Mindy just left the country and from what I read online, this was Crampton's last episode (May 26, 1995).  What a very unceremonious exit, wow.  She just tells Josh she's leaving for a business meeting overseas randomly at Eve's memorial and then she's gone.  I guess she either pissed someone off BTS or asked to leave pretty abruptly and they just said fine, later?

I could be wrong, but i think she said she was going to negotiate a new contract when she was offered a role on Bold And The Beautiful. I wasn't watching B& B at the time but I think she was cast as someone's mother, a role that Brad Bell thought she looked too young for after seeing her on GL. Someone else might know better.

She was cast as Maggie, mother of teenager Jessica (Maitland Ward). She probably was too young but it didn't really matter.

This might be a long shot, but GL was nominated for Best Writing in 1998. Anyone know what episodes were submitted to get that nomination? Curious what storylines or special episodes got them that nom. Surely couldn't have been the clone storyline unless it was when Dolly died maybe.

Is there a website that has a centralized list of what episodes performers and shows submit each year to get nominated?

Kobe, OTOH, made decisions I don't get at all, starting with decimating the Bauers, getting rid of most of the characters from the Dobsons/Marland era, killing off characters out of petulance because the actors wanted to give Hollywood a go. I'm sure she made good decisions, too, but the bad ones kind of stick out.

I think Kobe's emphasis was more on plot versus character, which is why she was just fine in firing most of the people she did. If anyone pushed back on something planned for their character, they were expendable. Better to have Pam Long create a new character played by a new actor than to try to placate a beloved vet. I was told that the only exception to this was Charita Bauer, who Kobe liked and admired. Apparently Kobe gambled that she could completely change the show to her image (to be fair, as most producers did) without pushback as long as Bert Bauer was on the show. Obviously, Charita's untimely death put that theory completely to rest.

This is why I never thought Long and Kobe meshed well. Long seemed to thrive writing for characters versus big events (i.e. Susan Piper/Barbados/back-from-the-dead Brandon Spaulding to start with...).

Re: Mindy. I would've brought back Krista once she became available from OLTL as Tina. Speaking of Tina, Karen Witter (judging by her OLTL work, acting style and physical appearance) would've fit the role like a glove. There was a Santa Barbara actress named Carrington Garland who lost out the Mindy role to Barbara Crampton. I don't know who else was considered for the role at the time.

@alwaysAMC yes, that's when Phillip returned. Beth's young boyfriend Coop (Buzz and Jenna's son) died in a car crash while trying to stop the wedding, Phillip reported it on the way to the church.

Mindy was a poorly used part in those years no matter who played her, Garland would have been much better. Witter too. Crampton was likely only hired because of her Y&R success. Another example of how little JFP actually cared about GL.

Wait, Beth and Coop are in a relationship?? I get the concept of SORAS, but that one is a REAL stretch. I was even shocked when PJ mentioned that Beth and Bill get together later at some point. That Beth really rocks the cradle, wow. And to think she used to give Vanessa crap for dating young men....

Not to be crude - well, I'll be crude - but all this version of Beth cared about was if there was a dick involved. If Nick/Santa Claus had appeared during her run, she would have slept with him too.

LMAO!!! Hey, I'm all for single cougars getting their second wind and finding younger men, but not Cooper's age LOL. That's just so wild to me.

Oh nice, thank you! What a wonderful tribute.

You're welcome. Did you notice in the tribute that Mrs. Zaslow didn't mention CBS/P&G?

Well, I swear they aged Coop to be older than Lizzie. I generally dislike SOARSing, but I lobster hate out of whack aging of characters. There are too many examples to list, GL just seemed to randomly bring back "legacy" children to fit whatever story they needed a character for.

Beth seemed to take a correspondence course in "Schtupping your Daughter's Ex and Future Lovers" from the Brooke Logan School of Yucky Family Dynamics.

I loved seeing Jerry pop in as a surprise. So sad to think he died a year later from this interview :( I wonder how close Jerry and Liz Keifer were in the years after GL was canceled.

I have the impression that Jerry and Liz stayed close. They continued to host a charity event together for years, IIRC. And I may be mistaken, but I think they lived somewhat close to each other.
