February 19, 201312 yr Member Anyone know what actor he's referring too lol http://www.soapoperadigest.com/content/kevin-bacon-dishes-gl-past On the February 18 edition of THE TONIGHT SHOW WITH JAY LENO, Kevin Bacon stopped by to talk about his new FOX series THE FOLLOWING (which also features Natalie Zea, ex-Gwen, PASSIONS), and recalled his days of playing GUIDING LIGHT's Tim from 1980-81. "I was Tim The Teenage Alcoholic for pretty much the entire year and then I learned something which was very important about soap operas," he explained. "There was a guy who had been on the show for years and he took me aside and he said, 'Ya gotta be careful about doing anything too well because they will write that for you again and again and again.' In this guy's case, he was an amazing crier, like at the drop of a hat, full-on waterworks. And he was kind of like the patriarch on the show and yet, because they saw him cry so well, they had him crying every week, crying, cying, crying all the time and he was like, 'Don't get yourself stuck in that.' So, I was doing a scene where the pressure was building up on Tim again and I was getting more and more angry and I said to the director, 'Hey, I'm thinking about maybe just punching this locker, just out of frustration, punching this locker,' and he said 'Yeah, that's a great idea. Punch the locker.' So, they said action and I punched the locker and the next week, I got a script where I was punching the desk and then I was punching that and punching that. Every week, I was punching something and I became Tim The Teenage Alcoholic Puncher with a swollen hand. This is my first chance to be on television again since then."
February 19, 201312 yr Member That would probably be Mart Hulswit or Don Stewart (Ed and Mike). I'm guessing Mart, although who knows.
February 19, 201312 yr Member That would probably be Mart Hulswit or Don Stewart (Ed and Mike). I'm guessing Mart, although who knows. I know Ed spent a lot of time between 1977 and 1983 getting all sorts of crap thrown at him (and before that, if I recall my history correctly) and was usually pretty upset about all of it, but did he really spend a lot of time actually in tears?
February 19, 201312 yr Member I remember him having teary eyes a few times, but not that often. The problem is I couldn't think of anyone when Bacon said that. I don't remember GL being a show with weeping men.
February 19, 201312 yr Member I watched a bunch of stuff from that era recently and I do remember Mart Hulswit crying and shaking a lot. He was my guess.
February 22, 201312 yr Member That's the person who replaced Marlena (and made her pseudonym seem subtle). I had that somewhere. Can't say I had much interest in GL at that time, although Olivia's stories were interesting.
February 24, 201312 yr Member Hadn't seen this promo before. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SVay6IBjCkQ
February 25, 201312 yr Member http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dSc_J72yaWY I don't remember this version. How often did they use it? I love the start and the end.
February 25, 201312 yr Member The jazz version of "Hold onto Love" premiered around May/June 1996 and only lasted a few months. It was universally panned by many viewers at the time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dSc_J72yaWY I don't remember this version. How often did they use it? I love the start and the end.
February 25, 201312 yr Member Thanks. I thought there was another version that was guitar heavy, which I wasn't a big fan of.
February 25, 201312 yr Member Yes, that upbeat, electric guitar-synth version came after this smooth jazz version. Personally, I loved the smooth jazz version but I tend to enjoy slow, sexy takes on classic themes (Knots season 8, AW Summer and Desire). SOD praised GL for bringing back a more upbeat version, but it totally sucked, imo. The original HOTL was perfect, it didn't need to be changed to begin with.
March 1, 201312 yr Member The beginning of this is on another channel. Michael O'Leary does a good job in this episode. I've mellowed because years ago, Josh kidnapping Reva would have enraged me. Now I mostly just think the scenes are a little flat, although I laughed when Josh tricked her into saying she hadn't been kidnapped. Daniel Pilon was so dull as Alan. Sonni/Solita is in this too, during Will's amnesiac story. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_2C0gGS5XY Edited March 1, 201312 yr by CarlD2
