Sounds Like ATWT Really is Next to Go

I meant on daytime. During the day. Mid-afternoon. I loved Hollywood Squares. Match Game. Win, Lose or Draw. Tattletales. And even embarrassingly for a while, the one with "whammy's", which name escapes me right now. But a gameshow airing at 2pm? That hasn't been successful in twenty-plus years. A lot of serials went to an hour because the game show "died out" for a while in the mid-'80's.

Well, to be fair, soaps started to expand to an hour first, and that's what drove game shows out of the mid-afternoon. All of the soaps that expanded to an hour (AW, DAYS, ATWT, AMC, GL, OLTL, GH, and Y&R) did so between 1975 and 1979. Prior to the mass expansion of 1977-1978 (where two shows each on ABC and CBS expanded), ABC had game shows scheduled between AMC/RH and GH/OLTL/EON and CBS had game shows following the soap lineup. This wasn't just a parade of short-lives, forgotten games either. Family Feud gained its popularity in the mid-afternoon, as did The $20,000 Pyramid. The 70s Match Game was mid-afternoon staple, as was Tattletales. Mid-afternoon games can work, and they can work well. My ABC station does two hours worth of syndicated games immediately after GH, and they've found great success with that.

Actually its a good idea. Let's people have some comic relief, besides lol they can take the break between the shows to keep them all straight so they dont mix all the stories together LOL

Who knows if LMAD will succeed, but at least CBS is trying something new, or trying to revive a previous genre. Anything that has been a smash hit on daytime for the past 20 years (Rosie, The View, Ellen, etc.) have all been talk shows. And with all the talk that will soon be in primetime (Leno), it's nice to try an alternative...

Has there been any other show besides GL with the same poisonous writing/production team as long as ATWT? Good grief, at least the other ones know when somebody isn't working. OTOH, the people they replace them with are always just as bad, but still. ATWT's writing is an insult to donkey nads.

Well, I heard on the FOX radio news yesterday that Proctor and Gamble reported an 18 percent dip in profits last quarter. So unfortunately, they may take this opporotunity to swing their axe. But who knows.

Oh, brother! Lifetime message board... look out!

LOL!

But I was just reading at Facebook that the gays on daytime are saving daytime. Couples like Otalia and Nuke are so popular that they are what is keeping soaps going these days and the future of soaps too.

It's so sad that the popularity of these two couples didn't translate into better ratings. But the same can be said for so many other so called popular couples who are supposed to be saving their shows. If they are truly saving their shows where are the great ratings..

Thats not true.

They have a fanbase who are very loud and outspoken. Thats it. And i would bet that most of the fanbase doesnt watch the show. They watch youtube Otalia & Nuke clips.

Daytime is dying. It needs to happen so we can hopefully get a rebirth.
