December 9, 200916 yr Member I think that is the problem...soap writers can't write anymore, they have nothing new to tell, it's the same stories over and over and over..even their so called shock, disgust & awe are predictable. I think some can still write, they just aren't given the opportunity. None of the people in charge of Y&R can write anything beyond their own complexes. They don't like soaps, they don't like the soap format, they look down on it and on viewers. This is what we get as a result.
December 9, 200916 yr Member What you fail to see is P&G didn't cancel these soaps, CBS did. If CBS wants out of the soap opera industry, which they've been hinting at, then Y&R and B&B will be gone in a few years too. Neither show makes the profit they used to make, and they're very expensive to produce. Ratings that are declining don't matter, CBS makes no money from Y&R and B&B's international sales, and the ad profit they used to make from thes shows decreases year to year. There is very little incentive for CBS wanting to keep them. True... BUT, if both these shows still make a profit because of the international sales, then both shows could STILL be produced, and sold overseas, and viewed domestically on soapnet, or they might wrangle FOX into carrying the show for some baragain basement price. If the show goes from making tens of millions in profit to only making a few million in profit, what are the Bells going to do? Open a Macdonald's franchise instead? I don't think Sony really cares, as long as the show doesn't LOSE money.

December 9, 200916 yr Member ...the Bells don't... How do you know?! What you fail to see is P&G didn't cancel these soaps, CBS did. They don't own the show and, unfortunately, B&B cannot survive on ONLY its international revenue unless the head cheeses wanted to give themselves a massive paycut. The cost-cutting is severely affecting B&B, not only in terms of aesthetics, but also acting and writing.
December 9, 200916 yr Author Member Ugh, I have been refusing to believe that it's just a matter of 3-5 years for the soaps to end (hoping, instead, that at least some would make it another decade) but it seems that we are very steadily (and quickly) heading to cancellation-ville. I wonder if this will allow fresher, better-written soaps to surface... Or will daytime soaps become completely obsolete? Edited December 9, 200916 yr by YRBB

December 10, 200916 yr Member Have you heard this nonsense about Phyllis finding dirt on Deacon and blackmailing him into kidnapping Amber, because she wants Amber out of Daniel's life. This just seems ludicrous to me. Like Phyllis would rely on an idiot like Deacon to do her dirty work.
December 10, 200916 yr Member It's true, it's such nonsense and so stupid, especially with the crap that's been happening on this show this past year.

December 10, 200916 yr Member Phyllis would not. The "Giggly Heffa" on the other hand, would.
December 11, 200916 yr Member I still think it's a bunch of bunk. These shows, even ATWT are not losing money. They just are not making the hand over fist dollars the networks are used to. The prime time success of these dumb ass reality shows has made the dollar signs flash in the eyes of the network execs.. it's greed, pure and simple. They don't care to make a respectable profit and turn out quality product. It's all about how much money they cna get for the least amount of money. If some multi-billionaire would produce Y&R at a loss, and hand it over to CBS for the sum of 1$ per year... it would be on till the year 2100, even if it was pulling a 1.3
