Basically it says that Phillip faked his death because he didn't want to tell his family he's gay. Gag me. I'll repost what I posted there...

I'm very upset that Phillip is going to be gay. That ruins future story potential for Nina and Christine, who both had romantic chemistry with Phillip. Hell, Lauralee Bell even said she'd be willing to return thanks to these two actors being back. It would be fresher than just throwing her back with Michael and Paul, two played out relationships. I also feel like he's only gay because the actor is. I think they're afraid to show an openly gay actor as a straight leading man. It would be different if Joshua Morrow or Eric Braeden (just using them as examples) came out because they've already been established as romantic leads. They probably consider it more risky with an actor who hasn't been on the show in 20 years.

Another reason this doesn't work for me is that it will clearly isolate Phillip and limit his full cast integration. Not to mention how poorly the show has developed Rafe and the latest twist with Adam. On paper it sounds good, but the execution is rushed and very plot driven. Will Phillip become a plot point as well? Why not just make Phillip IV gay and see how Phillip III and co handle it? Also doesn't help that Thom is almost 50 and Yani looks like a school boy next to Michael Muhney. Ugh! So much wrong with this. I can't believe Phillip is back for this.

Y&R needs to lay off the retcons for a good long while after this one. I still enjoy the show, but this brand of storytelling is cheap and fan-fictiony.

The way his eyes do the weird squinting thing, it was almost like he was mocking her with this information. It was weird. Tricia was awesome though. Damn, he's throwing this bomb and underplaying it in the absolutely wrong way. There's a good way to underplay huge moments and there are bad ways. And he's doing it worst than the bad way. I don't understand why the director accepted this performance. I don't care about time constraints. This is HUGE. You don't allow a storyline this important that changes Y&R in so many ways, having dead people come back to life and all, which is a rare feat for Y&R over the past two decades, and rest it upon the shoulders of a horrible performance as Bierdz's.

Bierdz is just AWFUL, there are just no words for this...

This is really pathetic. The scriptwriter should have his/her Final Draft license revoked, and where is the director in all of this? Why is Bierdz turning his back on Cast after this big, uncomfortable reveal?

Why is Bierdz turning his back after he drops the bomb? Because that's what Phillip would do. I LOVED the scene, thought it was beautiful, GREAT background music. I think today's episode was scored badly, and acted beautifully. Listen you guys are calling Bierdz a bad actor for not giving you what you want, an emotional, expressive performance. But it ain't gonna happen. Because it would not be true to the CHARACTER'S CORE. Phillip Chancellor III is not that, and Bierdz would be a bad actor if he was acting scenes like YOU want him to. He has slid back into his role like a glove, what you see onscreen IS PHILLIP, I know him well enough, I watched him nearly every day for 3 years. His delivery is deadpan and monotone at times, he is awkward, introverted, befuddled. That is who the character always has been. To me, it made him fascinating, because he looked like this wounded bird that was awkward and shy, yet beautiful and he didn't know it. Deeply troubled, but also someone who had a VERY HARD TIME expressing his feelings. You guys are going to the International house of pancakes, and trying to get fried chicken. MAB I'm sure is well pleased with Thom's acting, as it true and genuine to what came before. And lots of poeple LOVED him that way. He was a mystery... you wanted to scoop him up and take care of him, and help bring him out of his shell and blossom. That's who he WAS, and who he IS. Some of y'all are just gonna have to suck it up and deal. I hope he's front burner for years to come.

I'm torn between both sides. I don't think Bierdz is AWFUL, because in the scene with Nina, I could at least feel what he was going through, and I thought he connected well with Tricia Cast. The scene itself I think could have been drawn out longer, this is a reveal that should happen over a period of a week or more, but the scene is decently written. One could argue that for material which has such massive rewrites of history, you need to have a superb actor, not a competent one, in the role. I don't know. I do realize Bierdz is heavily tied to the show's history and there's some emotional impact there.

His voice does distract me, as he seems to struggle to get the words out. I know that's probably not something he can change, but I hope they can find a way to help him if they can.

I still wish they'd had him fake his death to help protect his family, and they could have said he'd had some injuries which required a long recuperation and some plastic surgery.

They got what they wanted. MAB is sucking up to fans and supposedly giving them what they want and crapping on the history and integrity of a show I love - for the sake of what.

I used to could say that when all the rest of the shows threw their integrity away that you could still be proud of Y&R. Well that is gone now.

I watched today and I was just stunned at how far in the gutter Y&R is willing to go. And it has nothing to do with the actors. It is totally the story and a route I never wanted to see Y&R go. This is totally plot driven dribble that should be on any other show besides Y&R.

I’ve watched “One Life to Live” since I was a kid (I say with more than a bit of embarrassment…). Loved their storyline in the early 90s involving Ryan Phillippe as a closeted teen. He was such a hottie. They’ve got another gay storyline unfolding now involving actor Scott Evans, Chris Evans’ younger brother.

That wasn't a diss to fanfiction writers. I'm a fanfiction writer. It was a diss to crappy fanfic writers. There's a difference.

Carl.... I know he struggles ot get the words out soometimes, but that's the whole point. That's what makes Phillip who he is, that difficulty expressing himself. One reson I always liked him (Besides his looks) was that there was no other character on daytime like him. But like I said, that type of character has the drawback of some people not liking the performance, because they feel the character is emotionally unavailable to them. Steve when you look at message boards like that, keep in mind that most of these posters watching a scene like that are ignorant of seeral things. People who think he hasn't aged well? They obviously don't know he's 47. Nobody in their right mind thinks he LOOKS older than he is. And someone else said the actor "blows"... again obviously someone who didn't watch him the first time, as I can tell you, virtually nobody over the age of 30 would use that term... it's a term of the younger generation. I also AGREE with you that there is nothing majorly wrong with any othe actors on this show. Even the worst of the lot, Kahlil, can manage a halfway decent performance. Why would you want to stop watching? There's been alot of stupid stories over the years I've endured, but there has always been soemthing good come along later. When I was referring to people ahving to "suck it up and deal" I was refrring ONLY to Bierdz' perfromances, because they are true to character and properly played. I just don't understand what your'e hating so much... I know I can't wait to see tomorrow, my 73 year old mother feels the same, both of us watchers since day 1. After that initial kiss, will it take them a year to kiss again? Will their(Phillip and Rafe's) relationship develop off screen? Will Thom Bierdz and Yani Gellman be written out before the kiss can happen again? I mean Thom Bierdz did sign a six month contract. Month #2 is fastly approaching.

Well sorry but as you said character driven drama might be gone but I am not going to settle for [!@#$%^&*] just because that is all I can get.

Why should I care about sticking around to watch whatever they give when they have proven they don't care about me as a viewer? I have watched since Day 1 too, but I am not going to accept this mess just for the sake of being there. Not where there is a whole lot better stuff on to watch. Why accept somethign so inferior when you know they can do better.

And as to Bierdz being 47 and him looking younger. He might but he still hasn't aged well. I still think he looks good but he is not the hunk he used to be. There is a different look to him now. NOt sure how to explain it but there are aspects of his face that didn't hold up as well as others.

And sorry but I and others will judge Bierdz and his acting just like we do on other shows.

I for one love Farah Fath but she is totally out of place in heavy dramatic stuff and it totally throws off the scene when she tries to do it. And that is what Bierdz does here. Sorry you cannot watch a heavily dramatic scene and expect to get into it when the actor they are trying to hoist on your cannot pull it off.

Good actors can turn bad writing into gold. But bad actors cannot even make good words look good. Sorry but that is just the way it goes. And sorry but Bierdz is not selling these scenes for so many.

And sorry but quitting is the best way to let producers know when you don't like something. Y&R is not giving me anything these days. Who on the show am I supposed to care about anymore:

A psycho demented boy who wants to get even with his dad so bad that he causes the death of a child and sleeps with a gay guy.

A gay guy that is being played by a psycho who the writers haven't even taken the time to develop and let me know.

A psycho demented shrew who is so desperate she poisons a child.

A once strong tycoon is so stupid that he can't even see what his son is doing, but his ex-wife can.

A once strong woman who now can't do anything without the strong man in her life to pick up all the pieces.

A man who goes back and forth between his ex-wife and his current wife and can't even seem to make a decision that lasts.

A woman who sleeps with 3 men and is magically cured of mental illness and then lies to the men in her life about who the baby's father is.

A man who cons the people in his life so that he can get a family

A man who fakes his death because he's gay; sends another man back to his mother and grandmother, but doesn't care anything about his own son.

And on and on and on and on.

Y&R does still look good as I said. But in all there are only 3 characters out of the numerous that I even care about anymore. The writers are destroying them all and not giving me anyone to care about anymore.

I have watched Y&R for all these years because I cared about the characters, and the writers cared about the show and the characters. MAB and crew obviously don't. And their vision of Y&R is so far away from what Y&R is and should be.
