Y&R: Still waiting for that new opening...

This one may be my favorite Jill photo. I remember at the time I loved this because she looked like she was going to rock out! The Grace Slick of Y&R. And there's Flo. I never remember her being in the credits. Back then they always had the help in the credits, although at times they put them all in on the same day.

But remember..with the (drawn) head shots, didn't Y&R (then hip and sexy...not conservative or traditional...in 1973 it was the groundbreaker) PIONEER the integration of face shots into opening credits?

I am so so so bored of black and white and Nadia's theme. PLEASE just bring back red porn.

Someone who didn't like Ryan? Or his tips??

I didn't mind very early Ryan, but once he got together with Nina and drained all the life out of her, I started to dislike him. I hated the affair with Tricia, I thought that whole story was bizarre and I hated what it did to Nina. Then I went back to being bored by him until Tricia gunned him down. I thought he was a very pointless character. Even when he got back together with Victoria (his best screen partner), part of me thought, "Why couldn't she have gotten together with that cute guy who worked in the mail room."

I wonder whatever happened to that guy. I guess he's still down there. Or wherever he worked.

So--and I know I am revealing my utter naivete/stupidity here--is there no way that "Final Cut Pro" could be used for the Y&R opening? In other words, can't they do the opening cheaply in a way that most viewers will still find visually appealing?

I cannot BELIEVE some of you like the porn opening??!!! I hate to blast you out of the water, but Kay Alden had stated at one time that they got rid of the porn opening because of the AVALANCHE of people who HATED IT. You all must be a small minority. Porn don't go with classy. And while some of you might not think the WRITING is classy, the production style certainly is, and the opening needs to reflect that. I just want them to go back to the sketches. They can take still head shots and run them through a computer program and TURN them into sketches. And it's the actors who demanded their names on the credits. Braeden is the one who spearheaded this, there's no going back now. If you look at the Y&R 1978 opening on youtube... that is not expensive to do, but it looks good, especially Bauer and her HAIR.

The porn opening didn't bother me but it didn't seem like Y&R. I think Y&R's opening should be stylish, a bit cheesy, perhaps, but also subdued.

I love that 78 opening. I prefer color to black and white caricatures, but they're so high quality, especially the one of Lorie. And I love Liz and Jill together, like Liz is watching out for her.

Was that Katherine at the end with Lance, or was that Vanessa Prentiss?

The porn opening lasted for over 3 years--I can imagine why they would wait so long to change it if people really hated it that much. It was amazing.

And a big HELL NO to a title card. Total and utter LOATHE!

    • Looks like they never removed it as it is still there as of this reply.
    • In a way, it's a shame that Lynne Adams decided to leave the show when she did, because I think Mike and Leslie were positioned very well to become GL's tentpole couple.
    • Correct. Lynne Adams (Leslie) decided she wanted to leave the show, as Leslie hadn't been given much to do since Adams returned as Leslie in 1973 (and now everyone can witness her first scene returning as Leslie in 1973 on YT - unreal) I don't think the Dobsons tried to stop that from happening, as I think they wanted Mike single again. I agree, @DeeVee - they should have let Mike and Leslie have a child together. I wonder it they thought it would be too strange to have two siblings that could also be cousins

. As far as Ed and Holly go, at least they allowed Ed to show up at the end of TGL and take Holly on a "trip around the world". IMHO, I don't think Peter Simon had as much chemistry with Maureen Garrett as Mart Hulswit had, but I'm glad the show gave them a final scene together.
    • IF this gets a renewal I can't see LY sticking around
    • Well, I'm glad to know Devane and I are on the same wavelength, lol.  But seriously.  I don't believe there's any other word to describe the machinations that the producers constructed in the name of keeping Greg and Paige apart.  Greg and Paige made Sam and Diane look mature by comparison! Which would have been just as well, since a character like Greg Sumner didn't really belong in the '90's, as the storyline with the task force proved only too well.  If KL had returned for another season, it would've needed a MASSIVE overhaul, including ditching Greg, Paige, Claudia and Anne.  Mack and Karen would've needed to be there for the sake of continuity; and maybe some mileage could've been gained from exploring Gary's new life as a widowed single father.  (I still would've loved to bring back Julie Harris and have Lilimae help Gary take care of the twins).  Otherwise, it would've been a new era for KL, one without The Sumner Group, or stories like Wolfbridge and Empire Valley.
