GH: June Discussion Thread

I thought Martha Byrne was much better at playing a brassy character (Rose) than she was as the more victimish Lily. I see some of that in Andrea. I wish GH were a show which didn't hate women, she would be an asset.

Seeing Dante interact with Kristina is weird.

If he's a fed he will be dead within six months.

Why were they having him say "land shark"? Those clever GH writers. Hey, what say we go vote for Carter after our story is over? Or are you more of a Ford guy?

Dante/Dominic and Olivia do NOT look like mother and son..I'm very curious on the age difference. I hope he is a fed, that would be interesting.

Spinelli trying to win Maxie's heart by singing is kind of ridiculous.

Lisa LoCicero - April 18, 1970

Anything and everything to do with Spinelli and Maxie seems kind of ridiculous these days. I liked them when they were bonding after Georgie was killed. I can't stand them now.

OMG. Martha Byrne is AWESOME. AWESOME as Andrea. On Monday, when she was listening in on Patrick and Robin's conversation in the hospital, so many emotions were crossing her face. Fear, scheming, but also deep hurt and vulnerability. It was a masterclass in conveying everything while saying nothing.

Dante and Olivia's chemistry is... not very mother-son.

That's a soap fan's wet dream, right there. LOL!! The scene of them at the Metro Court yesterday was intoxicating. Love it!!!

Are we seriously gonna get a Olivia/Sonny/Claudia love triangle?! Ugh!! Why must characters with potential be wasted on Sonny?!

Dear lord. I am just not feeling this Spinelli cannot sing but insists on assaulting our eardrums "storyline."

Does GH seriously think this is comedy? Or is this just another way for TIIC to avoid showing Spinelli and Maxie engaging in sexy-times?

Should anyone start a July thread? I don't know if there's a regular thread starter so I don't want to intrude.

I think it's funny that, thanks to the preemption, the throwaway (and very entertaining) Patrick/Robin karaoke scenes were pushed to Friday's episode and ended up overshadowing the latest nauseating "courtly love" propping which will now be on Monday's episode, dumped at the start of the week.

Speaking of stomach-churning,

    • @DeeVee Claire is a perfect example. So many women came to Springfield as competent, smart, and talented professionals. Then they’d attract a so-called “good guy,” get dumped, and spiral into complete chaos. What always strikes me is how clearly it plays like a male fantasy—yet it was written and sold to a female audience.
    • I just watched some parts of an episode of GL where Roger has just been shot by Holly. Rita then admits to Hillary that Roger raped her. Kasdorf is such a fantastic actress. I wish there were more of her work available.
    • -- Alex Alegria has almost a full sleeve tattoo on one arm and a large tatt on one pec. I see no indication that the show is covering up his ink,
    • Didn't Carrie2 even seduce a minor? Ick. Oh, yeah, and she even tried to seduce Alan, but this was his post-prison era when he was trying to prove to everyone he had changed. It's funny that of all people he didn't go for it. Wait. Josh had an affair with Vanessa? Or she just thought he did? I know people always say "it's just a soap" but the way mental illness is portrayed on soaps (and that goes for pretty much all of them) has always been not great, especially PPD. They practically turned Claire into The Joker. She also was trying to seduce men. (I notice that now Mary Ryan Munisteri is listed as co HW with Ryder in the 1986 episodes, Claire has calmed down a lot. Never thought her GL career was very good but seems like she tried to course correct that a bit).
    • sss Ms. Tunie is a goddess. I feel all the anger, pride, sadness, arrogance, dignity, fear, love, and other emotions in everything she does as Anita.
    • You're right. People like me who stuck with her, did so because of her history. The show just skated her along with no story,  no goal, no aim. Right again! This is who I forgot before. When you describe her, it makes me appreciate her more. Thinking back I loved Mandy.
    • Maybe Guza is becoming Y&R Head writer and Jilly will be named EP! Remember CBS installed Latham as consultant and later Mal Young, both of whom took over the show. Of course, they each got credit during the consulting days.
    • Don't forget Carrie, who as Carrie2 was screwing everything in pants, and PPD Reva, who to either get back at Josh for his supposed affair with Vanessa (or just to prove she's more desirable than Van) tries to screw half the male population.
    • Post-production isn't exactly akin to sweeping the floors, but it makes more sense given her CV.  And, it would invalidate any concerns that she has an undo influence on the creative process, as opposed to visual and sound design of the show.  In fact, given her interests, it makes sense that she would want to consult and see the impact of newer technology in a post-production facility.  I could only imagine how much has changed in sound technology since she worked on SB, and that might be intriguing to utilize. As well as their impending move (not as soon as B&B, but we all know it will happen) and helping set up post-production at the new facility.
    • The last five or so episodes of season 8 after the Jean Hackney story ended were pretty strong with the Laura/Val friendship breakdown, Ben's PTSD with Val trying to help him, and the start of Jill realizing that Val was as much of a threat to her happiness with Gary as Abby was. I always thought that the Jean Hackney story should have ended at mid season at the latest... and then deal with the fall-out because seeing Ben/Val switch roles with Ben in mental decline instead of Val would have been interesting to explore.  And seeing Val and Laura's friendship suffer also was interesting and should have been explored especially with Karen caught in the middle and Abby both intrigued and amused at the conflict that she didn't cause. However, season 8 was the only Latham run season where Val was well written.
