Wow. Perfect, perfect description. And the honeymoon. Those bed scenes. MY GOD! Both of them grinning like fools, and Goddard trying his intense stare and showing off his armpit FOREVER...and the sticky fruit...I'm shuddering.

I'm still holding on to the bad-boy JT (who was the SALVATION of Glow-by-Jabot for me) and the Colleen who was his soul mate. I realize I'm stuck in the past. But you're right...this version of JT and Victoria can end. Me? I'd replace with Heather Tom tomorrow. Quickly split up Victoria and JT, and have Victoria win custody of Reed. An embittered, unemployed JT would then return to snarky donkey, and engage in self-destructive behaviors. Colleen (played by Lyndsy Fonseca or Adrienne Leon) would save him from himself.

You're right. This is a HUGE choice point. The last Joanne-Kay lesbianism thing almost tanked the show. Now, the world has changed, and we have some forebears on AMC, OLTL, GH, GL, ATWT...even Passions. But if Y&R starts to lose the stability it gained over the last few months, I could see a panic button being pushed.

LMAO. They could likely use Mary Jane or Adam for a similar function, the way they are headed. But this description still has me giggling.

That's interesting. Are you saying AFTER the Dobson's left, SB reached its best? Do you know who was writing, then, during that period?

I guess Y&R is trying the 30-40% cost cuts for everyone. But I am 100% supportive of bringing down costs with cast cuts too. There are many people here on whom we seem to have widespread agreement.

I think the idea of negotiating contracts, too, where people get guarantees for PART of the year, and are essentially recurring for other parts of the year, could work too. Then you do concentrated storytelling, but you send folks off when they are lighter in story. But I recognize this makes storytelling very fragmented...like everyone is Anthony Geary. But something must be done with this huge and largely neglected cast.

Where exactly is she wasting money?

If you ask me Y&R is the only show left interesting in telling stories about people. The rest are traipsing from plot to plot with absolutely no interest in writing people with personalities or honest relationships. Yes, Y&R is plot heavy but the character interactions are so true to who they are I forget sometimes that the plot is moving along.

Or maybe a speck of gold really shimmers when surrounded by shite. Who knows?

Those were such coma-inducing sucky scenes just thrown in into an otherwise okay episode. Someone has a huge hard-on for that couple and it's killing every episode they're in.

Really? Really? Pratt? Really? I'm re-examining...

Yes, but many of the personalities on the list of cuts...Tyra, Ana, Devon, JT, Victoria...these people are now devoid of personality. These folks can go, and there would be little sacrifice to history, plot, or character. Victoria should be ESSENTIAL, but under Heinle she is not. Therefore, she can leave until they are ready again for a strong Victoria.

Really? I thought that couple COST most people their hard-ons ;)

Lots of SB fans consider the middle years to be SB's best, and the show won 3 consecutive Emmy's for Outstanding Drama Series, WITHOUT the Dobson's (well, they were kind of involved with the first infamous win). JFP was promoted during this time, SB was her first gig as an EP, she actually kept that show together when the Dobson's were ejected from power.

Jess Walton recently told Nelson, I believe, that Y&R's licensing fees were CUT, which tells me SONY is trying their best to make this show work on a tight budget. If money continues to be wasted, they'll have to stage some form of intervention.

Y&R, and B&B, have let go of many people in production over the past couple of months. Almost every department has felt the burden of the economic crisis. I see no reason the show can't operate with LESS writers and LESS actors. They have to pick and choose wisely though.

That's why most people were confused by his GH and now his AMC. Years have done a lot wrong to this writer, or maybe it is just network interference after all. We all know that Fronsie will put all the ABC soaps into the ground because he's working heavily on having his stamp on each of those shows.

Exactly!

Please God NO to Alisha Minshew, she's one of the reasons that I no longer watch the show.

Did you really have to rehash that awful honeymoon? Once was definitely enough.

I like your scenario of the bad-boy JT resurfacing otherwise he's about as bland as they come.

    • That's what Julie Hanan Carruthers is doing for BTG at the new studio in Atlanta, but JHC is credited.
    • I remember when the whole Missy Reeves controversy started in 2012.  She tweeted support of a business that had made homophobic statements. Greg Rikaart (who was on Y&R back then) publicly called her out on it, but was willing to reach out and speak with her. Article here: https://greginhollywood.com/greg-rikaart-talks-about-his-twitter-war-with-fellow-soap-star-melissa-reeves-over-anti-gay-chick-fil-a-73139 That being said, ten years later, on DAYS, in 2022, when they had they double wedding of Leo/CraigWesley and Gwen/Xander, Jack and Jennifer came to the wedding.  At that time, Missy Reeves was only intermittently available for DAYS. Jennifer was living "in Boston" and Cady McClain and Missy were each intermittently appearing as Jennifer, on the specific occasions when the show required a Jennifer to appear. Missy wasn't on contract and she could have said no. But she chose to appear as Jennifer for the gay wedding of Greg Rikaart's character.   So... I mean... I would assume they reached a détente behind-the-scenes. Missy still has her belief system but there's that.
    • That was one of the best grandslam finals.  Alcaraz comes all the way back down 2 sets to 0, and three match points in the 3rd set, to win it in a 5th set tie-break.  And the quality of play was excellent - so many great shots.  What a battle!
    • Indeed. I may try to watch it in full sometime, but not anytime soon... Mark played Sean Baxter for a few episodes when Courtney married Andy. Burke was either on Broadway or at OLTL at that time, I suppose.
    • Well, Josh was a horndog. LOL Yep. It was one of the first really weird things Reva did with her PPD. She became obsessed with the idea that Dylan and Sam should get married. Sam was only 17, and needed her parent's permission. Reva helped them leave town so they could go to a neighboring state where Sam was old enough. Ross, Billy and Josh stopped them, then Sam went to India to try and persaude Justin. Reva followed her and didn't tell Josh she was going. While Reva was gone, Josh advertised for nannies, and Harley applied. He ended up hiring someone else. But when Reva returned, she hired Harley because (in her weird mental state) she wanted someone she could trust with the kids (because she feared Josh was trying to get rid of her and that Vanessa wanted the children.). After Reva starts treatment, she asks Harley to stay until she's stronger because she's good with the kids. At the party, Reva starts going off the rails, insulting Justin and Josh hauls her to a private dining room to ask WTF. Reva starts confronting him about the "affair" with Vanessa, and he realizes she is weird. He locks her in the dining room and frees Mindy and Van from the ladies room (where Reva has locked them in). Van starts telling him that Reva attacked her and needs help.  Reva escapes out the window of the dining room and goes back to the party, climbs onto a table and starts a striptease. Josh gets her to stop, takes her home and after filling Ed in, decides to go to the doctor the next day. Reva then takes off and spends days running around town, coming on to a guy she thinks is Billy, Billy, Hamp, Frank and Roger.  Roger takes her to his apartment and takes nude pictures of her, which he tries to blackmail Billy with. He wants the deed to the land the Towers is on in exchange for them. (Billy had been left the deed by a sweet old lady who lost her home in the 5th street fire. Roger had stolen the deed from her before she died. After Roger took those pics of Reva, she saw him hide them, and took an envelope from the hiding place. She didn't realize she'd taken the deed and not the pictures.)  Anyway, Billy and Vanessa trick Roger into burning the pictures, claim the deed and at the Towers opening reveal that Billy owns the land and therefore the Towers. That's what led to Roger and Alex's breakup and Roger and Mindy's affair. Mark Lewis was on ATWT? 1986 is not a good year, storywise. No bueno. Muy no bueno.
    • All the time they spent trying to make viewers feel sorry for Chad only for him to not even last that long. I wonder if they knew Richard Burgi was going so quickly. You're right about Josie replacing Cheryl. On paper, this should have made sense, given all the ties Josie had to the canvas, but I did prefer Cheryl. There was something very synthetic about Alexandra Wilson.  I suppose even if she did have some fans they were just so used to getting rid of people left and right, so she was more collateral damage. As you said above I do wonder what the plans were for Peggy Lazarus. I think AWHP mentioned her once telling Peter that Peggy Lazarus wasn't her real name. Maybe she would have been another Carl moll... Rebecca Hollen never did get her due in her soap roles.
    • So true...Hackney might have had a story on FC with Richard being an old lover of his, but reveals herself to be a Cartel member and blackmails Richard with something into doing her dirty work  LOL. But of course Richard had his hands full with the double trouble sisters Ms. Jones and Ms. Braxton that season.

    • Cat herself will be a stumbling block all her own as she vowed to Chad to stay away from him, thus redeeming her of her crime morally. Classic DAYS would have them gazing longingly at each other at Doug's Place or Blondie's, while Liz is serenading the room with a song aptly chosen to represent their feelings of emotional turmoil.
    • From what I just recently watched, they were setting her up to go into future stories. She was Emmy nomination worthy in the material I saw. If some viewers did not like her, the character could have been rehabilitated after that sick storyline. It feels like they destroyed a character for fun and then tossed her to the curb. Spencer had chemistry with everyone. I'm just retroactively angry on Spencer's behalf.  You're right about how Cheryl was often forgotten and pushed aside and I would take Cheryl over Josie. I think soaps need characters like Cheryl. Characters like Josie are way too common. Josie always got on my nerves.
    • CBS was back in third place in 1994/95. That was the season CBS lost NFL broadcasting rights which also cost them several established affiliates in major media markets. 1995 CBS was sold to Westinghouse and Les Moonves arrived. 1995/96 CBS was trying to be young and cool to compete with NBC and Fox, but it was an epic failure and CBS was once again in third place.
