Save the 'Light' Rally in NYC

Now now. Some people take the Friday before a long weekend off...so they'd be more available to go to this!

It'll be nice for them to get together, share good memories of the show, and maybe even let go a little after that.

If this were a Guidling Light appreciation event, I'd be all for it. I think it would draw more people and show that despite the show's current state there is a lot of love there. But this "Save the Light" business is becoming...unfortunate. As a great man once said:

"She's dead, Jim."

I'm sorry but I have to blame these fans. PGP/Telenext did lie and lead them on, pretending that they were earnestly searching for "a new home" for GL and that there was a shot in hell of it happening. But where have these fans been? PGP/Telenext lies to their show's fans all the time. They've done it for decades. They've stood idly by as their show's have been ripped apart to practically nothing and they've done nothing to reverse the damage. I don't see how anyone can doubt that they don't give a damn about GL and haven't for nearly a decade if not longer. I just don't get it.

Yeah, but he also said

"By golly, Jim... I'm beginning to think I can cure a rainy day!"

LOL! Okay, okay. I have to respect that. Besides you've been so beat up in the "Y&R Actor Quits" thread, I just don't have the heart to wrestle with you on this.

I arrived around 7am this morning outside CBS in Manhattan where they were setting up several things outside for the EARLY SHOW. I saw some other folks with GUIDING LIGHT shirts on so we chatted, and talked to a nice lady who told us where to stand for maximum TV exposure. As others started showing up, some with signs, security didn't seem very happy we were there. Eventually they forced us to move to a "special" area by the street and out of regular TV camera range - it was a literal kicking to the curb.

But that couldn't dampen our spirits. Lots of people wore GL shirts and buttons, many had very creative signs, and everyone was unified in hoping that this 72 year legendary television series would live on. Fans came from Wisconsin, Rhode Island, Georgia, Pennysylvania, New Jersey and, of course, New York. More states may have been represented but I didn't have a chance to talk to everyone.

We stayed at the EARLY SHOW until it went off at 9am. Kanye West was a guest today and I was hoping he would sing "Heartless" to security. Once the show ended, we marched our way to Lifetime headquarters about fifteen blocks away to make our presence felt there.

I don't know if we "saved" GUIDING LIGHT, but it was a lot of fun to meet other fans who care about the show and want it to continue. And at least we tried to make a difference.

I'll post pictures and video a bit later.

If anyone else attended at one of the other rally locations and would like to share your experience, please let me know.

I'm so proud of those GL fans who went out to rally.

Because 72 years just ain't long enough...

Just tacky, IMO. Lifetime never publicly expressed an interest in picking the show up and flat out said that they aren't adding any daytime dramas any time soon. Why did they go there?

Nothing better to do today All MY Shadows?

I am sure no one would discredit you if you were trying to save something you liked and enjoyed.

I guess I missed where CBS said they would take Medium from NBC if they cancelled it.

Was that public knowledge? I may have missed it?

CBS acquired HD, filmed, Patricia Arquette starring Primetime show, Medium, because it's a CBS/Paramount Property and they need episodes to sell into syndication. Period.

GL, today, is some rinky dink, trailer trash, Springer Cam show that should be put out of it's misery.

It's raining outside, so no:(

There's a difference between not saying anything and saying that they are NOT picking up any daytime dramas.

ETA: For the record, I grew up on GL, and I don't want it to be canceled either. If there was a network that expressed interest in picking it up, I'd be TOTALLY behind it. But that's not the case, unfortunately. CBS are the ones who canceled it in the first place, so will they change their minds? Lifetime never expressed interest in the first place, so will they change their minds? I don't think so, personally.

Ignore the nayayers, ignore the jealous posters, and also IGNORE those who mocked the rally via this site! Apparently the overwhelming number of positive posts are at DC, We Love Soaps, facebook, and Soap Central but certainly NOT here.

It takes a lot of guts and time to do the rally. Thank YOU GL fans for attending the rally and to those for expressing desire to attend the rally but couldn't due to conflict of timing and geography. The spirits, thoughts and support is with ALL of you. A big kudos! ^_^

KEEP THE "LIGHT" SHINING! :D

Actually, yes.

Carry on.

It seems about 30 people attended.

Is that a good thing or a bad thing? Does that number hurt or help?

Like you don't already know the answer to this...

A good thing! Wasn't the early estimate about 7 people?
