I am very happy with AMCs nominations and I don't think that any of them are undeserved (although that may change depending on what was submitted). I swear there are some sites where people seem enraged that AMC got any recognition whatsoever. There was some great acting last year and there was some great writing last year (especially when the writing team returned following the strike through the end of May sweeps, as well as Pratt's first two months or so).

If AMC submitted B&E stuff for writing then Pratt still gets an Emmy if AMC wins, correct? And if they submitted Pratt stuff and they win then B&E also get Emmys?

It would be interesting if they submitted the Jesse & Angie reunion stuff for writing....who would go to accept it? Or were B&E back in the credits by then?

I love the new Scott, too. He's not the greatest actor but I see improvement each time he's onscreen and I like that he seems like a genuinely good guy instead of another lame antihero.

I think Bobbie Eakes will be a shoo-in for 2009! She didn't have strong enough material in 2008 but this year, she's owned several episodes.

Not reading spoilers, I was totally sucked in by the hospital drama surrounding Ian. I don't condone murder pacts, either, but I get why Kendall & Zach feel the need to go gunning for Adam.

The only part of this murder mystery that doesn't work at all for me is Tad thinking Adam killed Dixie. It feels shoehorned in to give him a motive.

That's the only weak link I see as well. And it seems like the whole "who really killed Dixie?" thing will be forgotten after the murder and Tad will care less about hunting down Dixie's real killer (I refuse to believe it was Adam) as he returns to being Tad the Cad.

I'm not sure what Debbie Morgan submitted but if her reel included anything pertaining to Jesse's return it would be no contest. Her performance was absolutely amazing during that whole saga.

I thought Bobbie was pure gold following Babe's death in the final part of the year. But yes, she is a shoo-in for next year with all the amazing material she's produced these last couple of months (witness stand during custody hearing; truth about Marissa; etc).

This week has been pretty exciting - leading up to the 'big day'. I agree that Zendall's murder pact is sickening - especially the red mark - GAG ME. I will say the scene where David told Zendall that Ian most likely won't make it to morning was heartbreaking and Alicia/Thorsten sold that. Also the final scenes where Ian dies -- they sold that too. I just hate that they seem already more focused on killing Adam rather than reacting to Ian's actual death...they need to let it sink in, mourn, and then get revenge!

Just loving the cast integration this week.

Vincent Irizarry has been outstanding all week. I'm loving the writing for David lately - you really get to see all layers of his character and see where he's coming from and why he's doing what he does.

Scott/Marissa was better than expected for me in yesterday's scene at the Yacht Club. I just hope they aren't boring, but I do see major potential - they were sweet together.

Can't wait for tomorrow!!!

BTW --- I am keeping a dairy for the Nielson's Rating Group --- So my viewing will get COUNTED for this Thursday-next Thursday :) Those bitches gave me $30 to do this too! haha

I just totally thought about this - but where is Jack??? We haven't seen him in ages - and he should at least be at the hospital for Ian? Seems like they are majorly phasing him out. It just sucks that his screen time is contingent on Erica and her 'romantical' mood. Let him shake it with other characters...

Some of the performances save the contrived material for me, but that goes away any time Zach or JR or Tad are onscreen.

I guess I shouldn't be amused that Kendall and Zach hightailed it out of the hospital as soon as Ian died, but what a great way to show just how much Ian is a prop to them, not someone they will be there for even when he's no longer there for them. This also seems to suggest just how much AMC overuses the kids in peril schtick; even the parents of these constantly endangered children can barely be bothered now.

Everything felt forced. Especially that ending. Krystal, out of nowhere, becomes homicidal?

Zendall seemed all too ready to kill the minute Ian flatlined. That was the worst for me. It was almost as if they were WAITING for their son to die so they can commit murder. No grief, no tears, no anything. Just "beeeeeeeeeeeeep!" and then Zach and Kendall hop into action. :rolleyes: Add to that Rebecca Taylor's trademark of having characters say the same thing sixteen different ways in the course of only two scenes... :rolleyes: How many times did we need to hear "If Ian dies, Adam's dead," or "If Ian dies, you know what to do," or "I will kill Adam if Ian dies?" We get it! You're a murder happy couple! Talk about something else, please!

David giving up so easily on Marissa? Yeah, right.

JR drinking again just because Adam played another predictable mind game with him? If JR's sobriety is that unstable that Daddy not showing approval this hour is enough to knock him back off the wagon, he deserves to lose Little Adam.

Just so many things were crammed into this episode that I swore I was watching a stand-alone episode and someone would wake up as if this were all a dream.

    • Great points, and it has not completely vanished. Leslie on Beyond the Gates fits the trope (she's still not over that Ted lovin' two decades later), though I will say there does seem to be an effort to make her more complex.
    • I understand why people speculate, but I have to say it doesn’t sound very plausible that Jill Farren Phelps would be working at Y&R in any uncredited role. CBS daytime shows are tightly bound by union contracts and corporate oversight, and that kind of informal arrangement would be a major liability in 2025. Before the mergers of SAG-AFTRA and the two WGA branches, it may have been easier to hire someone quietly or off the books. But those days are behind us. With digital payroll, tighter pension tracking, and increased scrutiny from legal and compliance departments, it’s just not the kind of thing anyone can get away with anymore. Most union members, especially producers nearing retirement, would not risk their eligibility or benefits to take an uncredited role. The Producers Guild of America is also very clear about crediting. To even receive the PGA mark, a producer has to be verified through a formal review process. According to their credit certification guidelines (source), "only individuals who performed a majority of the producing functions on a motion picture or television production" are eligible for credit, and those credits must be official and recorded. If someone is functioning in that capacity, they are not supposed to be uncredited. Studios that are union signatories, like CBS and Sony, know better than to skirt those rules. If anyone has a legitimate, primary source confirming that CBS is hiring someone like Phelps in an uncredited production role, I’d honestly be curious to read it. But without that, this just feels like rumor—not reality.
    • I keep thinking about the persistent trend of eroticizing mental illness on Guiding Light. Sonni and Annie were never more compelling, or more attractive to the show, than when they were manic. It played into a recurring theme: strong women undone by their unhinged reaction to sex. The writers were likely inspired by Basic Instinct and the broader wave of neo-noir films in the late '80s and early '90s, where female sexuality was often equated with instability. The result was a crude portrayal, not just of mental illness, but of womanhood itself. Both Sonni and Annie were introduced as sharp, capable women, brought in specifically as formidable antagonists to Reva. They were logical and composed, standing in contrast to Reva’s emotional volatility. That difference made them threatening, but not especially “sexy”—until desire became their undoing. In a very male fantasy, their strength unraveled the moment they slept with Joshua. As soon as they got a taste of Lewis lovin’, they spiraled into scheming lunatics, willing to torch everything to hold on to him. It was part of a larger trend in the culture. Fatal Attraction, Single White Female, and The Hand That Rocks the Cradle all traded on the idea that female desire was dangerous, barely held in check, and always teetering on the edge of madness. Looking back, it's a pretty grim trope. And while it's not completely vanished, I'm grateful we don't see it quite as often today.
    • Elements of it were silly, but it was a small price to pay to get Zas back. I should say there's a difference between in town and out of town returns. It's understandable for Roger to skulk around town in a bad wig and clown suit when he's in Springfield and running the risk of bumping in to people he knows.  Taking us out of town to find someone always has a short shelf life. Then it usually becomes about another character knowing X is alive but determined to keep them out of Springfield. Like Alan discovering Amish Reva. I don't know how long it went on, but it was probably twice as long as necessary.
    • Elizabeth Dennehy complained on the Locher Room about how ridiculous so much of the writing was for Roger's return. She laughed at so much of Roger's antics and how it was hard for her to take them seriously. Probably another reason she was fired as she didn't play the game.  
    • Only thing I enjoyed was Abby / Olivia, etc., and the addiction storyline. Otherwise, I could do without the season.
    • Right? Vanessa had a ball gown for every occasion.
    • Roger's return storyline may have been silly but Roger's return was what lead to GL's last golden era.  It was the combination of Roger's return and Robert Calhoun becoming EP that got GL to finally hit it's stride after some really bad years. It will always disappoint me that the ratings during Robert Calhoun's run didn't reflect the quality of the show.
    • He also gave some of the best episodes, like the episodes surrounding Doug's death. The problem with Days was that Ron had a horrible vision from he top. I don't feel the same for MVJ and nothing that has happened in all these months suggests she doesn't have a handle on the show. Now if it becomes an issue I'll acknowledge it, but I'm not seeing it so far.
    • Jean Hackney was awful and that lead to Ben's exit story which sucked. I liked Ben/Val together. Val's love for Ben was that of a grown woman moving on with her life and Ben's love for Val made him willingly decide to raise another man's children as his own.
