I will still defend the first DePriest regime from 1986-88, for the most part. A lot of people have brought up legitimate points on here, but AW was boring as hell under Sam Hall's pen from 1985-86. (Amphora dust? Please.)

I agree with this. I know Swajeski is credited for bringing consistency to AW, but DePriest's era seemingly did the same for a moment.

Laura Moss was so underrated in the role of Amanda. Ferguson had just finished a pointless role on Beach where her character wound up dead during the Terror Island story so I was happy to see her come back but sad to see Moss go whom I had liked.

Of course, Brian Krause and Jeff Phillips both were royally bad as Matt. I'm surprised Krause has even had a successful career or that even he lasted on Charmed like he did when that show had hotter, more talented leading men over the seasons.

I thought Krause did a great job following Matt Cranes foot steps. At least he looked semi like Crane

Lemay and Rauch began the process of dismantling the Matthew family and it was just about done when Courtney returned. I'm surprised they even asked her back, since her era of the show was long past. I think they should have toyed with making Alice remote, scarred from her mistakes, and with an edge, as that was basically the main way to write heroines in that age range (Felicia, Rachel) by this time. I also wonder how Alice/Carl might have been.

Not sure about that. Alice was the only Matthews they got rid of (Lemay and Rauch), In fact, Lemay, re-wrote Susan Matthews back into the pic. Mary Matthews yes was killed off but they made Liz Matthews a major character and Lemay loved Pat. He also bought Russ back and forth. Most of the Matthews were killed or written off in the 80's. I would say more Rauch than Lemay.

Carl and Alice did play together in 85 during ALice's return. I can not recall their interaction together but does anyone remember the scenes from Cecile and Peters wedding? They were both there

Getting a little tired of THE WORLD ACCORDING TO CARL. Some of us are actually old enough to remember these old shows, even from the 70's.

If you don't like his posts don't read them. A lot of us are enjoying them...

I'd really love to hear more from people who were watching then. It's one of the reasons I enjoy reading saynotoursoap, and denzo, and others. It's one of the reasons I miss SteveFrame.

It would be fun to ask anyone here when they first started watching AW, and what their first memories of the show are.

I didn't actually start watching until late 1996 or early 1997. I mostly remember the Grant/Cindy institution follies. Then I got into the older years, thanks to tapes.

With AW, i remember bits of it around 97-99, nothing too much tho. Thankfullly for soapnet, i became obsessed with 1986 up until about 1993. Id dare say its my favorite era of a soap opera that ive witness.

A rare find on YouTube. Someone posted a few AW episodes from 1980, just after Janice's death. I haven't watched the whole episode yet, but it has Mitch sniffing around Rachel and the original Cecile.

This is great quality, thank you so much for sharing! Is Connie looking at a prompter? I didn't think AW used them. The sight of Rachel in that disco is so... unexpected.
