Having Beverlee McKinsey show at the end would have been great! They did that with Mark Pinter's Grant too (on Tanquir), which wasn't that shocking but still.

I don't usually like 'cliffhanger' endings like that BUT I would have liked Iris returning if they didn't do the same in the next scene with Grant. tongue.png

Yeah, AW definitely had a rushed ending. In fact it didn't even seem like the show WAS ending until the very last scene with Rachel in the living room. Until then the last couple episodes were all about Cass and Lila's wedding...and the gorilla!

I thought Keating was a big ham, although he had his moments.

I wonder if they asked Carmen Duncan if she would return as Iris.

I thought AW had some closure in the last weeks - not a complete ending, but by the last episode, everyone was settled and happy, aside from Matthew.

Charles Keating was indeed a big ham, but I think it made him very watchable in low-key Bay City. Like Melroser, I much preferred him as a villain. I never really bought him and Rachel together, though both actors gave it their all. The show took great pains to establish that Rachel saved Carl from himself just as Mac had saved Rachel -- but Rachel's "crimes" were not unforgivable, Carl's were.

It is amazing how much better the show looks in retrospect. AW barely had a production budget in the '90s, yet YouTube clips from that era make it look positively luxurious compared to soaps today. I'm shocked by the number of extras running around every time there's a scene at the hospital!

Some recurring questions I have:

--Why did the show end up blowing Jacqueline Courtney's return so badly in 1984 even after gaining a good amount of viewers back?

--Why did so many pivotal characters end up dead(Julia, Sally, Frankie etc.)

--What was the Alice and Rachel interaction like during the Harney years? I remember reading Rachel played a small role in the Beatrice Gordon story trying to tarnish Alice as a person while Rachel was off with that art sculptor teacher who was supposedly a very boring character.

    • Surely that was a joke. Why would anyone seriously ask if Dani had any rooms besides having a bedroom? MOST of the time when we see her, she's in that open, airy, white room with her kitchen far stage left & there's an island & a love seat.  I have meant to post to say how taken I was with Eva last Thursday. You don't know it but I have  not really gotten into either Eva or Leslie/Sheila/Anna/Dana/Mom in the same ways or degrees most of y'all have.  With "Many Names" I get that it's quite a challenge to play that evil & that crazy without becoming cartoonish & she hasn't, so there is that. But, I do not see layers or nuance. I also do not fault the actress. If the gray tones are not there on the page, I don't expect to see them ripped out of thin air. With Eva there were so many questions. Now most have been answered.
    • No kidding. It’s amazing to me that CBS as messy as it was for the 97-98 season landed at #2 that year thanks to Sunday nights, 1/2 of the Monday night lineup, Diagnosis Murder on Thursdays, and oddly the Saturday night line-up. I think CBS was saved by the Winter Olympics not to mention ABC had gotten even messier than CBS’ mess.  CBS came out a more solid for #2 for the 98-99 season but was still very uneven overall. Outside of Sundays the rest of the network’s hits were on checkerboard split between Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.    Had it not been for Who Wants to Be a Millionaire fever I’d say CBS probably would’ve been at #2 for the 99-00 season as well, very much still uneven but of course Survivor and CSI were on the horizon. (*There’s some evidence that CBS may have barely eked out a win for #2 for the 96-97 season but that season’s mess sure doesn’t feel that way)
    • By request, I present to you "Abbott Communications".
    • Meh, I'm a bit tipsy after coming from a Mother's Day festivity. I should have posted a picture of her and Andre in her little great room.
    • Their question was does she only have a bedroom lol
    • Dani has a bedroom. She and Andre were in it right before the anniversary party. Edit: Ignore this.
