Though I have rarely watched in recent years, GL was my favorite tv show from 1988-93. It was soap opera at its finest. So many actors stood out in particular: the one and only Beverlee Mckinsey, Michael Zaslow, Jean Carol, Rachel Miner, Melina Kanakaredes, Sherry Stringfield, Kimberly Simms, the list is endless. Fantastic actors and stories defined this show for many years. It has had its ups and downs but will never be forgotten.

R.I.P. GUIDING LIGHT... That's all I can say... It certainly entertained me during some trying times in my life as a young teen feeling alone and ostracized for being gay... but I could always "turn on the Light" and find solace in watching Reva, Harley, Annie, Dinah (Wendy Moniz) and all the denizens of Springfield USA. The mid-to-late 90's were my favorite GL times, along with its brief resurgence in 2002.

GL had so much potential, yet like my other fave (DAYS), the powers-that-be just don't take it in the direction that it could go.

I will always have fond memories of this show and the incredible actors who made up the canvas during its best years.

I wonder how long of a contract Heinle signed in 2005.... I would presume 3 or 4 yrs, so she either got a new one last year, or like a few weeks ago.

Oh well, 13 weeks isn't far off, especially when it seems its been 13 weeks since we last saw her LOL.

Now, now, if Y&R can land Gina Tognoni as Victoria, they need to play this slickly.

You know, fire Amelia after her 13 week contract cycle, write Victoria and JT off for "storyline purposes", and then reintroduce a new Victoria played by Gina Tognoni a few months later in the year.

:D:D:D

I hope Gina doesn't go back to OLTL, Kelly is such an annoyingly dull charater. Gina never shined as an actress until she started playing Dinah on GL.

Well, I wasn't speaking of P&G pulling their prime time advertizements... I was talking about them pulling all their DAYTIME sponsorship. And they can sell their wares on other networks, Dancing with the stars and American Idol can surely pull the ratings they look for. My main point is that wouldn't P&G become offended if CBS Cancelled BOTH of their soaps?

It's very unfortunate that this has to happen. When I saw that link from CBS Press Express I knew it wasn't a joke, but wow, I knew it was coming, but it's still a shock, no matter what.

    • I would argue that Another World never played "everything" for laughs. Even when there were comedic scenes in some storylines there were other storylines that were not intended as comedy.  You give 1988 as the end point, and Mary was on the canvas from August 1986 to February 1989, so she must have overlapped with the despised laughs you are referring to at least half of the time she was there. I honestly can't recall any real comedy that Mary would have been part of. I don't think she was lighthearted about choosing between two husbands, MJ's prostitution, Kathleen's death, or even her son Scott dating her daughter Cheryl.  I would have said that the amount of comedy depended on the head writer and there was more comedy under Richard Culliton and Gary Tomlin in 1984 than subsequent headwriters. I guess there was an outbreak of more comedy when Cecile kidnapped Cass from his wedding in 1986, but in general the Sin Stalker wasn't presented as funny, Mitch's return wasn't funny, John's arrival wasn't funny, Reginald wasn't funny. The tone was serious even if the plots verged on the ludicrous. And maybe that's what you mean -- but I would make a distinction between intentional comedy and storylines I can't take seriously for other reasons.
    • I'm excited for us to get back to a full weeks worth of episodes and also us beginning to move into the episodes filmed once the show premiered. We're already starting to see changes in the lighting and the way certain characters are styled. Of course we know this week we have our first recast as well. After the big Eva reveal, I hope the show continues to move into a positive direction and that we see them starting to fix some of the things we've all had issues with.
    • It seems like they may have been going in one direction for Andre and then changed their mind. He had this player/bachelor thing going at first where he was messing with Dani, seemed to be feeling Eva, and then somehow smitten by bland Ashley of all people. I feel like Ashley was supposed to be the one that finally made him want to be with someone and settle. The way he talked her up in those earlier episodes was really confusing. The wonderful, amazing nurse Ashley and conveniently she's unattainable because she has a partner, but he can't stop thinking of her and takes these busted pics of her. It was a mess. However, it all seems to have been dropped. I honestly feel like Andre can go. That may be an unpopular opinion but I don't need his breathy final syllable to be content with BTG. It's always like "There's gotta be another wh-ahyy"
    • This is where McLaibey falls apart. It becomes clear that McTavish had not thought past Brent/Marion...so the energy drops and she starts throwing things at the wall (Blakes twins, Lonatrat.)   Fans HATED this funeral. Everyone is mad at everyone else, which is fine, the death of a beloved community figure would give people a reason to come together...(Quint and Nola could come together at least for  a bit to support each other, Nola and VAn could finally admit they kinda, sorta like each other) Its just an example of McTavish's mean writing.   I have a feeling they were going to make Dahlia Frank's kid but they chickened out. Making Tina a prostitute didn't help, they could have been lovers when they were young but felt society pressure to part. Marcus took over David's role (you can't have two young black men at that time...)   Get used to it...this will happen, the same storyline over and over until the end.
    • Does anyone happen to have a recording or any footage of Jennifer’s funeral?
    • It's such a shame that the conflict couldn't be resolved in a mature way between the two actors.. especially since Albee was a bigger asset for the show in terms of character and his popular will they/won't they pairing with Deborah Saxon. One of the things about Edge was that it was just as popular with male viewers as it was with women.  It's one of things I think the show forgot in the final year or two with the deemphasis on the male characters.
