Rex Smith is a big musical theatre star--Pirates of Penzance with Linda Ronstadt was a huge hit for him on Broadway and as a flop movie, I saw him (and own the recording) i the Canadian production of Sunset Blvd where he was spectacularly good (and very nice when I got his autograph as a star struck teen)

A lot of East Coast actors especially have major Broadway careers. Tonya Pikins was mentioned but she's really a Broadway powerhouse as anyone who saw her in Jelly's Last Jam, The Wild Party or Caroline or Change or has heard those recordings knows (such a waste on AMC right now) here she is singing from Caroline on the Tonys--with a cold no less! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nBxPARCbm_I

Stuart Damon was a major 50s and 60s Broadway leading man (he was in Rodgers and Sondheim's Do I Hear a Waltz) and of course was in the 60s TV version of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OIe2Y5lgahQ

Michael Park really could be one of THE big Broadway leading men right now if he wasn't commited to As as a regular. In the 90s he played Lucky in the revival of Little Me, the male gigolo who does the famous strip number to the song I've Got Your Number (I wish there was video of that...) and in 1994 was in the groundbreaking, and awesome, Off Broadway sex musical Hello Again. Here he is in the award winning revue Smokey Joe's Cafe http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=33enUaJhPQk

Of course Celeste Holm, movie star and Broadway star from the original Oklahoma production in the 40s was the matriarch on Loving for a while. James Mitchell was a major Broadway dancer (he plays Curly in the famous dream ballet in the movie of Oklahoma) and can sing well.

Umm the guy who played Zoe/Zarf on AMC is a pretty popular Broadway performer in rockier (and often gender bending) roles like Hedwig, Taboo.

SOOooo many other people, often in smaller or cameo roles are Broadway names--like I remember Terrence Mann, a major musical theatre celeb was on AMC for a few months, etc

One of my fave maverick record producers, Giorgio Moroder (who basically discovered and produced every one of DOnna Summer's disco hits, Flashdance, Top Gun, American Gigolo/Call Me etc etc) was asked in 1987 to create a girl group that would also feature on a kid's Satruday Morning cartoon. Unfortunately he didn't give them very good material, but Big Trouble was headlined by Bobby Eakes http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I3n-7jlb340

Hahah I woulda liked to have seen that (though they blind the audience with lights just before the reveal). I can't believe I forgot another biggie--the wasted on OLTL Patricia Elliott won a Tony for her role in the original 1973 production of A Little Night Music, by my fave Stephen Sondheim. You can hear her sing Every Day A Little Death on the original cast CD.

Also the GORGEOUS and gorgeously voiced Victoria Mallory was in two Sondheim musicals--the original Follies in 1971 when she was 21 and then also in the original A Little Night Music with Pat--she's on both recordings as well as a Sondheim concert CD from the same year. I know she then went on to Y&R though I think she retired in the 80s to be a mother. She's still married to her handsome Night Music co-star Mark Lambert. (Oh apparantly she was on Santa Barbara in the 90s). I know Bell had character son Y&R sing sometimes, I hope he let her show off

David Hasselhoff recorded for Capricorn Records in the late 70's while playing Snapper on Y&R.He later had major success in Germany due to his Baywatch series.

Darnell Williams recorded a single in the 80's while on AMC.Was it called 'Satisfaction?'

Shirley Jones -'Colleen Brady' on DOOL appeared in musicals in the 50's and was part of The Patridge Family, who had many hits in the 70's.

Was Shirley's voice used on these hits?Or was the whole thing done by session musicians(apart from David Cassidy's lead vocals?)

Bryton -Devon on Y&R has recorded some songs.

I remember Patty Weaver singing her single 'One Love Too Late" on Days at Shenanigans opening night.I think Mary Anderson was killed by the Salem Strangler in that episode and Jake was revealed as the killer.

Audrey Landers of Somerset and later Dallas had hits in Europe as a result of Dallas' success there.

Same for Patrick Duffy- he recorded a duet with French singing star Mirielle Matheiu.

I think that Tom Neilsen(Floyd GL)recorded in the early 80's.

Gisele McKenzie who stood in for Jeanne Cooper on Y&R had a big hit in the 50's with 'The Wayward Wind'

Ketty Lester, who played Helen Grant on DOOL in the 70's was a singer and hit the charts with 'Love Letters' in the 60's.

There was an ABC soapstars album in the early 80's.I recall Stuart Damon and Peter Bergman recorded tracks.Does anyone remember this? Was t a Xmas album?

Lesley Gore, pop star of the 60's(It's My Party and many more)was on AMC in the early 80's as June Gordon. She had something to do with Mark Dalton,Erica's brother.

    • It is interesting that Ann lasts as long as she does as a character on the show. I assume the show chose not to renew her contract, but I don't know for certain. I also believe Millette Alexander's contract wasn't renewed after she last appeared at Christmas in 1982. Looking back, I really wish that they had ended up pairing Sara and Mike Bauer versus Sara and Adam. Sara and Mike were already good friends, and it would have been an interesting twist in 1978 if Sara and Mike had a fling after Dean Blackwell's death, Sara turning to Mike for comfort after Dean's death. Mike and Sara certainly could have been a tentpole couple moving forward, unlike Mike and Elizabeth.
    • I wish they’d inject some of Colby’s real life energy, and yes, fashion sense, into Kat.
    • Like I've said before, I think the show is often a very strange (and admittedly fascinating to me) mix of very old-fashioned, purple dialogue and classic soap opera structural elements - right down to the insanely blatant, virally successful product placement for P&G - mixed with other dialogue or material that tries desperately to be current and hip. One moment it will remind me of very hokey old B&B stuff or expository stuff out of the '60s, and the other it'll look and sound like the Prospect Park soaps. Some of the hipper dialogue or material (Chelsea's sexuality, etc.) works for me, others are pure cringe. Same with the classical stuff, like the characters (particularly the elders) gathering around to recap plot, make grand pronouncements about each other or their children/family, or make grave portents of the future. Then there's the whole piano thing lol. It's a weird mix, but not one I'm mad about atm so much as mystified by. As a longtime soap fan it is very compelling to examine even when parts of it really don't work, because so much of BTG feels both very old and very new at the same time. I do think they need to dump the Bell (or maybe more accurately Brad Bell) school of dialogue MVJ has been working from for years, and bring in more of the naturalistic GH house style she and Guza worked from in the '90s and 2000s. If that means dumping a lot of the dialogue people so be it (I do think some are good). OTOH the Bell style seems to work for a lot of the social media and probably offline audience that isn't me, so who's to say. I don't think Dani is at all in the latter-day Carly though. She's not on quite as much, and she's far from always right. I do think they are definitely playing it down the middle with the Duprees while waiting to reveal more, but I do think they want you to see them both ways or divide the audience on who they are. Which seems to have succeeded because some people are baffled.
    • Might this show be a black stereotype? Angry crazy acting women like Dani and Leslie. Cheating punk men like Bill and Ted who didn't keep it in their pants. Angry black men like Martin. Promiscuous black man wanting the white girl. Dirty black cops. And so on?

    • That would require Dani to think about someone/something other than herself.. and we all know Dani only thinks about Dani.  Including her butting into Nicole's business instead of just being a supportive sister.
    • I also hope there will be a follow up to Dani noticing Vanessa with Joey. We need another scene of them two together. And does Dani have any knowledge of Vanessa's affairs?
    • One of the soap greats. I wish I had a stronger connection to her, but her major soap stints passed me by. However, the way veteran watchers have described watching her back in the day makes me yearn for the glory days of soap. As a DAYS fan first, her time on the show is basically an enigma. As years have passed as a member of this board, previous and current members have talked in fondness about her obviously major story with Dickie and David's death, but even more interestingly, her romance/friendship with Bill, and the fascinating tangled tale of her encounter in the park with Eric Peters. It's such a shame DAYS never swayed her back home where she belonged. Though I am more than thankful RC and JG didn't get their grubby paws on her, especially with the horrible example of how they saw fit to write Marie and Liz's relationship with all the nuance and sophistication of a pigpen.  SSH's remembrance of her was wonderful to read, so thank you to whoever posted. Could be cool too if any of her Clear Horizon material popped up. Does anything of that show exist?
