I don't think he was put on contract to replace J&M or to become a long term character. I think Days does not want him to leave in the middle of the Nicole storyline that's all. They have done this before, believe me he will be gone as soon as this story ends.

I agree. He'll probably be gone as soon as the story ends. My guess is that he has minimal guarantees in his contract. They're probably not paying any more now than they would've if he was recurring. As someone mentioned, they want to guarantee that he'll be available for the duration of the story. Was never a big fan of his acting, though I must say that Julia Barr brought out the best in him. He is the very definition of a "ham actor."
