Michael Douglas has also joined in, helping to drag this news cycle out for two straight weeks now.

It's very odd to me because it seems obvious that Biden is not dropping out and even if his polling drops to catastrophic levels he might not drop out. This is now very personal to him, more than ever, probably against these "elites" even more than Trump. And yet instead of wagon-circling, a number of celebrities and talk show hosts, even the most "normie" liberal like Colbert, are calling for him to go.

Why?

Do they assume Trump will win and they have decided they need to save face, even though they will be the least affected among us?

In the case of Jon Stewart, it's likely just his general smugness and smarting that some people finally had enough of his both sides BS. Others like Colbert may genuinely believe what they're saying, because even though I'm not a big fan, I do genuinely believe he's a good person...but this is also the man who took a photo op with Sean Spicer, so I can't help wondering if it's to try to keep his show on the air if Trump wins. All I can say is Colbert will probably still be put in the same box many of us would be put in.

I also wonder who they would want to take over. Do they think America in 2024 would vote for Kamala Harris?

I think that all the elites are coming out b/c they don't want Kamala anywhere near the presidency TBH. With each passing day, it becomes apparent. I am going to just rip the bandaid off and tell the truth. These WHITE elites don't want a Black woman in power. That is what I am deducing. I feel they'd prefer to toss Biden/Harris aside altogether.

I might have to take a break from social media b/c this is upsetting me. The win is right there and these elite bast*rds are just throwing it away. I am losing hope with each passing second.

It will be such a WIN this time when Joe does it again. And I hope he remembers all these people who... on the first sign of trouble, wanted to push him off the boat. No respect to the man who saved the entire country from that creature... 3 and a half years ago.

JOE BIDEN, you are an inspiration.

I wish celebrities would just step back on this one. It's not helpful for people in positions of power to speak out against their own at this stage of things.

If Joe Biden stepped and Harris ran I honestly don't know what would happen. There was a time people didn't think Obama could win, but he did. I would say 2024 America is a more hateful country towards non whites and women, but I believe we could still win if people would just vote.

I have to laugh at people who say the Islamist are coming to put us all under Sharia. Meanwhile the White Christians Nationalists are trying to bring us all into a theocracy and they have a real chance of making it happen. Not say say disinformation and meddling from Iran isn't dangerous by any means.

Josh Hawley was out a few days ago bragging about how proud he is of Christian Nationalism and the media ignored it, or in the case of the "progressives" who have always adored him, spun it into a top.

I think the country that voted for Obama doesn't exist now - the racism unleashed by morons and bigots over his winning has never been addressed and may never be. I would vote for Harris, but she has gotten so much hate from the time her Presidential campaign started, which has not changed.

If Clooney was led in part by anger over Biden criticizing the ICC's views on Netanyahu, as some are speculating, then his throwing us all under the bus (when he doesn't even live here anymore) puts me off even more than I already was.

As this just drags on and on, likely with Biden going nowhere and looking increasingly out of touch with his own party at the worst possible time, the chilling effect is crippling the party. Yet I do not hear about Clooney, Colbert, Douglas, Stewart, etc. writing checks for the down ballot races that will be affected by their game-playing.

I think we are living and witnessing an unprecedented era of ageism. It saddens me how people mock and ridicule older people and so called experts laughing after clips of Biden... sickens me... make me want to vomit.

Disgusting behavior from people who are not 12 anymore.

I can't wait for the press conference today.

I've said this elsewhere but it's telling how all these people start out by saying how much they love Joe Biden then they turn around and stab him in the back. "I love you, not let me publicly humiliate you."

It shows a stunning lack of character. Not just the political cowardice but the way  they try to frame their betrayal and treachery as something noble that's being done from a place of concern. It's vile.

@DRW50Has there ever been a more self defeating group of people than the Democrats? The ability to snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory stun me. We had a number of progressive congress people gleefully rallying against Biden well before the debate. Every single one of them should be primaried and sent packing. It also doesn't help that the Republicans are united by religion, hate and the love of money.

The Josh Hawley comments are awful. They claim to love America, while going against the very ideals of the country. Not that we've ever lived up to those ideals as a society, but to see politicians flout them so openly is worrying.

Clooney lost me when he tried to circumvent the strike process after having dinner with I believe WB studio head Zaslov. He assembled (although many of them refused to go public about it) a bunch of A list millionaire talent to negotiate the terms for the contract independent of their Union “to benefit the rank and file member more than themselves”. Bullshit.

He certainly didn’t have as much vigor for attacking Zaslov’s strategy to tax write off completed projects, upsetting and demoralizing talent left and right!

The fact that none of these elites have asked Biden to step aside and specifically requested they put Harris at the top of the ticket says it all about her and them. Do they not realize just how popular that ticket still remains with Black voters? And thanks to Taraji (not the media), folks have been looking into Project 2025 and were starting to be motivated again after expressing some collective apathy.

I hate that the most unserious people with money at stake are the voices that keep trying to disrupt this process. It’s already an oligarchy when people are out here screaming not the big money doners!

I haven't cared much about ratings since I stopped watching soaps but the tweet below made me realize that we're in the middle of sweeps. To me that adds an interesting bit of context to the frenzied hysteria we're seeing.

CNN just laid off 100 people. Ratings and traffic have cratered for much of the media. We can starve them.

There was this misstep where Joe called Zelensky - Putin... In mistake... tonight and now the whole world is screaming about it. On every media channel and site. I did not plan to suffer tonight. Jesus Christ.

I have such empathy for Joe... I can't stand how they are crucifying him.

    • Agreed. The Emmys next year are gonna be a pretty tough competition and I hope we get a Days sweep lol  Not only does Deidre deserve a nomination for these last few weeks, but I also think Paul Telfer, Raven Bowens, Carson Boatman, Dan Feuerriegel and Alison Sweeney have good chances as well.
    • It’s not about a lack of faith and trust in MVJ, it’s about a a lack of faith and trust in Ron Carlivati, who I think can be very sneaky and manipulative when he wants to be.  And, all that “He’s just a breakdown writer” talk never changed my mind about anything, because at Days, it was “just a breakdown writer” that gave us some of the worst episodes I’ve ever seen.

    • I think they’re desperately trying to cover his awful tattoos. But anyway them being unable to style short kings properly has been a major pet peeve of mine for a while now.  I honestly don’t understand what some people expect from actors to even begin considering them for recognition. Let’s be real—awards mostly mean that an actor is respected by their peers and has some level of cultural relevance. Actual judgment on the acting itself? That’s often secondary—highly subjective and shaped by the times. I completely agree on both points. If you’re an actor or a dancer you shouldn’t get any tattoos (sorry not sorry). Tomas’ tattoos are ugly too. And regarding the couples- you’re completely right. These writers are unable to write romance.   Further comments: - Kat cannot be this dumb to keep tampering with evidence over and over again. And I’m officially not a fan of the actress—every time she’s in a scene with Leslie, she doesn’t seem intimidated at all. She plays it like comic relief, which is just too much, especially when paired with Leslie’s histrionics and over-the-top antics. Leslie is older, dangerous, and has literally been portrayed as homicidal—Kat should be at least a little scared. • I also didn’t like Kat playing damsel in distress with the hotel manager. It gave off the same weird energy as Dani with the cop. I would’ve much preferred the version Paul Raven suggested, with her sneaking in through housekeeping. • And yes, Dani again accused Hayley of faking the pregnancy—this time even specifying she might be using a pillow under her shirt. (No fake miscarriage being mentioned) I stand by my take: this is ridiculous writing. No one in the real world—except us, the chronically online soap watchers—would even think of such a conspiracy theory. Haley is no Beyoncé. • What in the world was Chelsea wearing in her hair the other day? And this whole thing with Madison is beyond cringe. Chelsea’s coming off as needy and toxic—basically like every other Dupree. • I’m glad the casino storyline is moving forward, but it’s still boring as hell. Honestly, I’d be so here for a plot twist where Vanessa and Doug take Joey out. • The direction and editing lately have been rough. Abrupt cuts, weird pacing… something just feels off overall. There’s a strange uneasiness to how it’s all coming together. • And finally: Tomas is too much of a saint. Where are the messy sluts when you need them? (Vanessa doesn’t count.)
    • I was watching some August 1987 episodes and they brought back so many memories. I had some thoughts: Lisa and Jamie were so dull. Lisa was such a nothing character. It boggles my mind that so much story was centered around her in such a short amount of time. Joanna Going is a talented actress, but the material was just not there.  It was so good to see Wallingford and Mitch again. I know there was talk about Felicia a while back, but these episodes reminded me how integral Felicia was for the show.  Sally Spencer was done so dirty. She is turning in superb performances in an icky storyline. I wish she had stuck around longer. She has chemistry with everyone. The McKinnons should have lasted longer. Spencer had some strong stuff with Stephen Schnetzer and Mary Alexander. AW waster such a talented actress by getting rid of her. Justice for Cheryl too. I also missed Ed Fry when he left. Sandra Ferguson was a star from the moment she came on. She was charismatic and just popped. She had immediate chemistry with RKK and blended in well with Wyndham and Watson. I'd forgotten about the teenage Matthew.  I have no memory of Peggy Lazarus. She must not have lasted long. Was the original plan for John that he was going to turn out to be the twins' real father?
