Obama's administration also had harsh immigration policies, especially in his first term. Just not cruel, the way Trump's were. Biden was a part of that administration so on top of that you also have the heavy pressure of the media and the GOP, and a border patrol who are gung ho. Even if, as some say, that is not a whip, it's still an awful image. Even worse is that a majority of this country would gleefully hold that whip themselves if they could. 

America has absolutely decimated Haiti, many times over. If we owe any country it's them. Yet we see  just how little respect they get from us.

I agree. WTF? I wouldn't give Trump the benefit of the doubt on this and I can't give it to Biden either. Some of these folks made the trip all the way from Chile apparently, so I can only imagine how futile it all seems being put on a plane and sent back in hours. Isn't there some temporary program for migrants when their home country is in disarray?

Yes. There should be some international effort to rebuild Haiti, led by Haitians and funded by the international community. It probably won't happen, but it should.

I sure wouldn't put it past Abbott. I don't trust that guy at all. I say that about practically everyone in today's GOP, but he's almost in a different realm.

There is. Temporary Protected Status that was extended to some Haitians in the aftermath of the 2010 earthquake. If memory serves me correctly, it was extended, but it has only been for earthquake victims. Others who tried for asylum have mostly been rejected. People who have tried to migrate on account of financial hardship have also been rejected. It was all but completely impossible during the Trump years and those restrictive policies have mostly been held in place during this first year of the Biden presidency.

Justin Trudeau’s Liberal Party is projected to form a minority government.  No one party has all the power, so they must work together to pass bills.  This is the result I wanted.
