The times has also become The Onion when it comes to this ridiculous defense of their vote of the orange clown.  They never seem to ask why poorer black evangelisticals turned away from him. They don’t want to write that article. Seriously this is just asinine.

Nope.  It isn't.

That's why it's more important than ever for citizens to rally behind the so-called "fourth estate."  A free and unfiltered press is the very last barrier separating us from complete tyranny.  If that barrier falls -- and the way things are looking, it just might -- we are truly, truly doomed.

That NYT article is rambling, pandering word salad. And it essentially calls the people it is pandering to hypocrites, so I don't know who it is supposed to please. I think my favorite part is when they decide to mention that various leaders of Europe are childless and Trump is not, even though Hillary being a loving mother in the public eye for 25 years got her nothing but attacks and derision, certainly not support. If we think about this, and the attacks the Obama children faced, I guess he is saying that you get support for being a loving father if you are a white man (straight man of course). Not sure why that's worthy of an op-ed either.

So many op-eds are either ponderous nothingness or quasi-incisive pieces that really just end up stating the obvious.

I don't know why people still read any opinion pieces in that paper.

I think it was poorly written with weak arguments as well.   The author said more than once Trump is a good father and close with his children. Really?

What I remember is how Ivanka is his clear favorite because she chased after him begging for his attention as a little girl.  Oh, and the stories of how he humiliated one of his sons in front of his classmates because he didn't wear a suit to a baseball game.  When you have a favorite and your other children know it, you are a shitty parent. When you make your children come to you because you can't be bothered, you are a shitty parent.  What Trump did do is many children. Maybe that's all that counts with some?

Yeah, how would the author know?  Because, I've read the opposite: Trump was not close with his kids -- especially not with Tiffany -- and that Donald Jr. and Eric grew up alternately resenting him and seeking his approval.

I give the NY Times no clicks whatsoever. I don't know exactly what has happened in that newsroom but I don't trust them at all. I'm seeing talk on Twitter that the author of that piece is some sort of evangelical nutjob which would make sense.

In a way, Barron is the wild card.  Trump isn't any closer to him than he is to his other kids.  However, from my perspective, Barron could be the most LIKE Trump when he grows up, or he could be a completely different person, depending on what kind of mother Melania is to him.  Time, as they say, will tell.

That makes my skin crawl. Seeing him going after Rosenstein last week you could see how stupid and how dangerous he was. He's a Republican, and a very powerful one, so I have a feeling this will just get ignored, but kudos to these people for being brave enough to speak out.

    • I think Cheryl was essentially replaced by Josie, and it seems likely that Lemay wanted to bring the Frames back into the picture and for a variety of reasons that it would be McKinnons who would make way for them. Cheryl didn't really get many layers -- she was pretty and kind and sweet and faded into the background so that Scott could participate in the AIDS storyline with Dawn. Looking at the AWHP, other than (not very) shockingly being in love with her mother's adopted son Scott, Cheryl apparently went out with Sam and flirted with much-too-old-for-her John Hudson and MJ's ex-boyfriend/pimp Chad. I know MJ told Mary that she had been a prostitute, but did she tell Cheryl and did she tell anyone about Chad's pimping?
    • I feel the same way about Melissa Reeves' Jennifer. She just makes the show feel like home by her presence alone. I am perfectly okay with them coming in every once and awhile, which probably fits Reeves' schedule better anyway. They're connections to Salem are still there: JJ, the grandkids, Jack still owning half of The Spectator ... they're perfect recurring characters.
    • Hahaha. Jean Hackney, Angelica Nero, and the Falcon Crest henchwomen were all straight out of a James Bond movie.
    • My hunch is what you've described. JFP is likely back working on transitioning the show to a new studio and embracing new technology for its production model.
    • The woman who was the co-chair of Latinas for Trump is now complaining about his targeting immigrants that she thought were "safe." I also read a puff piece from yet another "insider" journalist who lives to normalize fascists - this one with a tech bro who was venting off the record because he thought voting for Trump was cool and would show up the Democrats and maybe we'd get Greenland, but now he's getting upset.  These people still support Trump, and Republicans, they just want to make sure they get credit for being respectable. And they will get it.
    • I really do wish someone could. Just a few characters in very simple backdrops, with very real problems that are just a little larger than life, like the '50s and '60s. All the characters having a level of dignity or respect. And their inner lives are what dominate the story, even if there are outside forces at play.
    • It's a lesson to never be loyal because once your use is up, you're shown the door. MSW was the only bright spot for CBS for awhile, and once they were back on top... they promptly sabotaged the show as a repayment for all that the show had done for the network.
    • The show made a mistake in not bringing in more McKinnon kids, specifically bringing back Ben. Kathleen was leaving, and while I like you am very fond of Sally Spencer as MJ, that didn't seem to be a common view. They also decimated the character in a truly sick storyline. So that just left Cheryl.
    • Between Gwen and Cat, the show often seems to side with those who cause lots of cruelty to Jack and Jennifer. I am half-surprised that the show hasn't brought Peter Blake back for more of the same.  I don't really know if there is a purpose for them in Salem now, but I do feel a sense of stability and rightness when Melissa Reeves is back in the role of Jennifer and back in the Horton house, in spite of...well, a lot of offcamera stuff we all know perfectly well.
    • I like to call her an FC-reject character
