It is very hard to overstate how big this is to hear a mainstream Democrat say - let alone a Democratic President of the United States, on national television. And no, it would not mean the same thing coming from Bernie Sanders as it so often has. I was born in the dawn of the Reagan era and I've watched a lot of Dems run away from the perceived power of Reagan's fiscal policy for decades. This is a quantum shift.

He's a failed comedian and now a rich grifter who, along with his fellow rich grifters like Krystal Ball, Brie Brie Joy and Kyle Kulinski, exists mainly to poison people against the Democratic Party and progressivism.

This account tends to track most of them:

Portions of this article really harkens back to a documentary on Ed Koch that PBS showed years ago that had a segment on a very nasty primary election between Koch and Mario Cuomo for NYC mayor, that featured a homophobic slogan against Koch. The suspicion that the "Vote for Cuomo, not the h*m*" was Andrew Cuomo's idea. As soon as I saw that, I felt immediate disgust for Cuomo and that lingered in my mind, despite whatever Cuomo would do effectively as governor of NY (although I have read of his very rancorous relationship with Democrats in the state) also despite my feelings on what I would learn about Koch's problematic handling of race and racial conflict in NYC.

Personally, I think that the investigation should proceed and be completed. I also think that Cuomo should not run for another term, and if he does, he ought to be "primaried" (it it rare that I agree with this type of process, but this is the type of situation that calls for such a measure).

Given the way he has functioned as a battering ram since his intro into politics, it is unsurprising that he has virtually no allies now.

"This was a pivotal week," said Adam Jentleson, a former Senate Democratic leadership aide and author of the book "Kill Switch," which argues that the filibuster is crippling American democracy. "Manchin's comments were certainly encouraging, but the most important thing may be the fact that zero Republicans voted for the American Rescue Plan. I think that drives home the need for reform more than anything else."

I told people this would happen. I remember the media breathlessly saying 'don't get comfortable! Trump is still a kingmaker, he's a political force for years to come!' even before the official win was announced. That was their grieving process. I knew it was a fantasy. He will never run again and he has no attention span or energy for it.

Like, really, Donald Trump, GOP mother brain? Donald Trump, downballot campaigner scheming to consolidate blocs of support for new candidates? In what universe?

    • Millette Alexander got the short end of the stick once they killed off Joe. The Justin thing was a non-starter. Then she was briefly married to Alan's corrupt lawyer and HE was killed off. She was paired briefly with Adam and that ended because she believed Holly over Roger about the rape. Definitely, Marland had zero interest in her except as the therapist for the many, many of his female characters who needed therapy. It's not odd she left the show. One of the rare 1978 episodes on YT shows Alan going to Cedars for a physical check-up. He ends up with Sarah as his doctor. In between making mysoginistic comments about women doctors, he also openly flirts with her. It's very obvious they were chem testing Sarah and Alan. It's a really good scene. Bernau is both obnoxious and charming and Millette is amazing, trying to be pleasant and profesional without rolling her eyes at him, but at the same time maybe a LITTLE bit attracted to him. An interesting what-might-have-been. So it appears the Dobsons were actively looking for someone to pair her with, they just never found the right one for a long-term story.

    • First, let me say I love reading all of your takes and thoughts. They always provide a different point of view... a breath of fresh air... in this sometimes stuffy topic.

You've inspired me to add my 2 cents about this product placement debacle.  I absolutely HATE the way they are doing product placement in BTG. I really hope this doesn't catch on or evolve into more and more of these moments. It's incredibly off-putting to place them in a highly dramatic moment where we are still on the emotional journey with the character. What is next - Dani spraying the house while having a nervous breakdown? It makes me not want to buy the product they're selling. LOL. That's just me.
    • I always get the vibe that Martin/Smitty have an emotional abusive relationship set up... but I doubt the show will really go there with that element given that Martin is a Dupree (and we can't have the Duprees be portrayed in a negative light), and because it's a gay male relationship.   Even though abuse in the physical or emotional sense is a huge thing in a lot of gay and lesbian relationships. The Ashley/Naomi scene reads off to me for one reason....  Ashley was talking about the new scandal without any sort of mention and/or subtext.. considering she knew both Silk Press Sheila and Eva.  I'm not sure if the writers have forgotten, if Jen Jacobs isn't able to play subtext, or what.   It's just apparent the writers do not know how to write a young white millennial couple.. and perhaps they need to get a younger white script writer to be on staff... or let the actors play around with the lines to make them more natural/realistic.
    • This is as good a time as any to point out that the 90 minute show was, what I like to call  "cockamamie idea" of Fred Silverman, head of NBC Daytime Programming. He did so well at ABC & CBS but not so NBC. We learned this from a WOST interview with Pete Lemay, 2006, can be found on YouTube, audio only. Now, to be clear, Rauch was completely behind it. Only Lemay fought against it & eventually quit over it.
    • She was so wonderful. Glad your handle has been a tribute to her.
    • Hopefully Alan has learned to not interrupt or interject with pointless information while someone is in the middle of telling a story. I almost think it would be better if Alan was a producer behind the scenes.. and he just had the actors on screen talking and asking one another questions.  Those interviews tend to work better.
    • It was only recently announced that Denise Alexander passed away on March 5, 2025. She was my all time favorite actress and role model. She will be dearly missed.  Denise Alexander, ‘General Hospital' and ‘Days of Our Lives' Actress, Dies at 85
