Speaking of idiots, there was what I initially thought was an Onion story but looks to be true- that Jared Kushner registered as a female in the state of New York.

And this is the guy who is in charge of the Middle East peace process?!

In terms of where we are today, I agree that it will take years, possibly a generation, to undo all the damage that the Trump administration is creating.

Off and on, I've been reading about the Reconstruction period where Blacks had made big political and socio-economic gains post slavery.  All of that was practically reversed with the emergence of the Ku Klux Klan, which set off a reign of terror and an undoing of that progress. Eventually gains were made but it took several generations to put African Americans on track to where they had once been during the Reconstruction era.

We just all may be getting a glimpse of what that feeling might be like, although it is clearly not as terror filled for most of us today.

As I wrote on my FB page, "Jared Kushner is not among my favorite people, but could we PLEASE lay off judging his coming out as female? How an individual views him- or herself gender-wise is no one's business but theirs. Thank you."

Michelle Obama: "Women who voted for Trump voted against their own voice."

Of course, many of those women who voted for Trump might say they didn't want to vote for Hillary JUST because she was a woman.  But seriously, if you knew Trump was a bastard, and you knew you couldn't vote for Hillary, then why not just vote third-party or stay home?

Fortunately, Michelle Obama's remarks don't apply to WOC.  They set aside their reservations and showed up for Hillary, because they saw Trump and his line of bull coming from miles away.

Even the likes of Sarandon are not that filled with hubris as to go after Michelle. For them, HRC was easy pickings because of the perceived popularity issue (ironically, HRC blew Trump away in the popular vote total).

Ordinarily, a President not getting much accomplished with regards to passing legislation would be a big problem, but nothing is ordinary about the times we are now forced to live in.

It's likely more of a relief that this president is so ineffective at legislation.  What low standards we have now!

Just so you all know you're not alone when it comes to politicians making fools of themselves, here's our former PM Tony Abbott having a tantrum on twitter (naturally) about Macklemore performing "Same Love" at the NRL Grand Final:

https://twitter.com/TonyAbbottMHR/status/912900163991162880

This is all because we're in the middle of a two month mail in survey vote about whether or not same sex marriage should be allowed. The yes vote is winning right now so we're being treated daily to these meltdowns from the far right side of Australian politics. The Macklemore row has resulted in the Immigration Minister demanding a song against gay marriage be sung also, Pauline Hanson whining about a "foreigner" singing a song at an Australian event, and Rita Panahi crying over how "rainbow fascists" are pushing the "gay agenda" on the poor right wingers. They've also pulled stunts like having a plane spell out no over Sydney in the middle of the afternoon, sending out robocalls to everyone in the country pleading for people to vote no, and having the ministers from Hillsong on the telly preaching about how this isn't what Jesus would want (or something). Pauline Hanson has also been going on about how this could lead to a ban on children calling their parents "mum and dad" for some reason no one has figured out yet.

Like I said though, the yes vote seems to be the majority and even the current PM Malcom Turnbull and a lot of the Liberal party (the liberal party is the right wing part here) are for it. My husband and I both voted yes and mailed our surveys back so I'm hopeful that us down here will soon be joining you all in also having marriage equality.

https://www.thenation.com/article/why-american-democracy-has-descended-into-collective-hysteria/

I think there is a lot of truth in this article about the punditry and  the US losing it's "number 1" mantra. Both have been going on for years. I've been feeling for a long time the US's mantra as the number 1 superpower is and has been slipping for years. There are a lot of factors, but we stopped for example fighting for noble causes and more for economic reasons after WW2. Roosevelt had to drag the US kicking and screaming into the "Old World" war, and now we don't bat an eye on sending troops or bombing anyone. I do wonder if the militarization of the US starting after the last world war has been the real driving factor behind where this country is at today. Eisenhower in his farewell speech warned Americans of this. He obviously saw it coming and in some ways participated in it himself.

I take issue with Trump = bad, Sanders = good. This country needs bold fresh leadership which I feel we had under Obama, where it was squandered. No I do not blame Obama I blame the many of us who took him for granted and didn't come out in droves to support him and some of the initiatives that could have been.

    • Where do you discover this crazy rumor??
    • Jill Farren Phelps was always very skilled at saying what she meant onscreen in the bluntest way possible, like whenever she wanted fans to support one character vs. the other (hence Megan McTavish groaning about having to write Kale Browne's Sam Rappaport into three days a week at OLTL). Perhaps you should consider doing the same. Historically your intent is always far more obvious than your efforts at coy embroidery anyway. You believe people are dismissing Phelps' accomplishments, and suggest misogyny and fan blinders allow people to too easily pigeonhole and dismiss her skill set. I think we all understand her varied skill set. We're saying it's not enough to make up for her deficiencies as a storyteller and creative. JFP was undoubtedly a skilled technical producer. As a solo storyteller, and de facto HW, she was a repeat and predictable failure. She was not the first or last EP (male or female) to think she was a writer. If you want us to stop taking your behavior personally when you suggest misogyny is at play in board opinions of JFP, perhaps you should consider spending the next 10+ years here not acting like you're the only one who gets it.

Melissa was here today & we went to Michael's Crafts & Ofc Depot. In Michael's there were two beautiful LITTLE girls who kept staring at me, so I gave them a littel wave & very quietly said HI & then did back. I told Melissa they were staring at me. She smiled & said "Purple. A lot of little girls love purple & you forget but you have purple hair. Seeing you their whole imaginations are transformed! Thinking "That lady has purple hair. That means I can have purple hair! They had no clue before seeing you that it was possible." I just laughed & laughed.
    • This opening scene is hilarious...it's like someone wrote out the script for Philip with one hand. And Rick...sniffing a scarf over and over. And in their next scene they are still sniffing the [!@#$%^&*] scarf as the camera stays all over Philip's bare chest and armpits as he keeps working out. Insane stuff.

Bay City better be ready, because I'm back!   At Vicky's apartment she is once again drowning in doubts and jealousy. Deep down she realizes that her dream wedding will be a farce and nothing can change that. Bridget tries to calm her down, but the heroine is determined to suffer. She is not hearing any positive thoughts. She doesn't believe Jamie will marry her. At the Cory Publishing building another farce is in process. Iris, once again pretending to be the angel of love and sisterhood... is telling Mac and Rachel some wonderful news. When Iris has good news, you really need to look out for yourself. That's when things are bad. So what are the news? Miss Devil has put Amanda up for an award! Mac is smiling from ear to ear, and Rachel is suspicious. Maybe that's the effect Iris is looking for. To once again accent on the fact that Rachel doubts and criticizes her daughter. Iris will do anything to destabilize their relationship. She is like a cancer. Back to Vicky! Jamie is at the door. Looking like a sad puppy, he has come with a surprise. No, he is not gonna leave her and her unborn... Not yet. He has bought her earrings. Sad face. How nice. NOT. Victoria, of course... manages to break one of them the moment she touches it. Bad premonition maybe? She was back in hysterics. It's not easy to trap a man into marriage. Then you have to live with someone that didn't want you in the first place.  We were introduced to a new character (to me at least she is new) - Cass's sister - Stacey. She is giving me "hidden skeletons in the closet"-vibes. Love a girl like that. Stunning actress. I like her. The highlight of the episode was the strange and creepy reveal of Evan the escort... hugging someone named Janice's grave. I remember she had an issue with Rachel... and Rachel killed her in self defense I think... It was hinted in prior episodes, but I lack the context and story. I just know that everyone at the Frame house was mad that Rachel killed the bish. But I also got the impression that this Janice was sick in the head. So Evan is now talking to her grave and telling her he is going to ruin Rachel's life basically. Oh, Evan... I liked you better as a sexy gigolo.  Overall - 10/10 - how can I rate it lower when I haven't watched in months!!!

    • Once again, Marlena and Kayla were used very effectively and I couldn’t be happier.  Marlena counseling Johnny and then Chanel was the best part of today. They’re really delving into the human emotion of this storyline and I think that’s a good thing. It feels so much mature than it was before. EJ’s fear about what could happen to Johnny if he doesn’t let go of his anger could lead to some really good storylines in the future.  I also really appreciate the way that Paula/Jeanne are mixing it up and having different characters interact with each other. It was nice to see Shawn and Johnny remember that they’re cousins and share a scene together. I liked the parallel that was drawn between the two of them, and what’s going on with their fathers. I did have mixed feelings about everything with Cat though. I enjoyed Chanel warning her about EJ, mostly because it played into the way that she was written today. But I wasn’t the biggest fan of the Chad/EJ scenes. The two of them discussing Chad’s potential feelings for Cat didn’t really keep my interest.  But above all, I feel that everyone is being used more effectively and that we’re getting a better understanding of everyone as well. And that was exactly what Days needed.
    • It's a wild story for sure, especially the final conclusion (and fireworks offcamera, like Victoria Wyndham tearing into Michael Logan).
