^^ I remember when Republicans like Sarah Palin used to mock Obama just months into his presidency, making reference to him not 'walking on water', trying to imply that Obama thought he was a Messiah when Obama never even alluded to anything of the sort.

Now the RNC is using actual language to plant seeds referencing Trump as some sort of Saviour of the Republic. JMO but Trump has more in common with King Herod than any newborn king.

Interesting take on the UN Resolution against Israeli settlement building in the NYT article. The overall narrative in the article seems to be that Bibi Netanyahu is most vexed with the aspect that the resolution will force him to choose a side, instead of vacillating between hard right domestic policies, while still preaching his belief in a resolution with the Palestinians internationally. Both his rivals as well as his coalition partners within the Israeli Parliament seem to suggest that the time has come for him to stop trying to have it both ways and decide which side he's on.

Israel Wonders How Long Netanyahu Can Back Settlements and Two-State Solution

It must be particularly galling to Netanyahu that this came at the hands of the Obama administration, whom he thought he had outmaneuvered ages ago and took great relish to suggest as much.

^ Yep. I think this UN resolution is unfortunate in a number of ways, but Netanyahu tried to go around President Obama twice, so I can't be sorry he got his hand slapped.  I do worry about Trump and the Republicans using this as an excuse to defund the UN and who knows what it means for the future of Jews in the Democratic party.  What's done is done though and I guess we'll see how things play out.

I'm a little skeptical of the idea that settlements preclude a two state solution.  Israel has an Arab population of over 20%. Is there some reason the land Palestine uses for it's state has to be totally devoid of Jews? Why would the international community think it's ok to support that?

As I was preparing for bed last night, I said, "Wouldn't it be ironic if THIS were the scandal that mushrooms and ultimately derails the Trump presidency entirely before it's really begun?"

I realize that isn't going to happen and I shouldn't get my hopes up.  Nevertheless, it'd be just like God or karma or "the fates" or whatever to have Trump Nation implode and disintegrate over something that doesn't even involve Trump himself directly.

That's one reason why I've always believed that neither the Jews nor the Palestinians actually desire a two-state solution.  Each side just wants the other gone and the land all to themselves.  (To the Christians and Jews, though, the Jews have the edge, because biblical scripture designates the land as belonging to them.)  So, I can't really blame us for abstaining.

Chances are, Trump will side with Israel, which might cause some (but not all) Jewish Americans to defect to the Republican party.  (I say "not all," because I hope -- I HOPE -- the majority of Jewish people in the Democratic party won't forget some of the xenophobic and flat-out anti-Semitic remarks he made throughout the campaign.)  I just pray Trump will not drag us into a "holy war" with Palestine that, like Vietnam, will be costly and unwinnable.

And most Republicans will never be satisfied until the United States has evicted everyone who isn't Caucasian, heterosexual and male.

Personally, I think a nation of two dozen would be vulnerable to outside attacks, but whatevs.

Frankly, I think Trump is too egotistical even to consider resigning from office.  To him, resignation is admitting failure.

Heck, if he were actually impeached, I wouldn't put it past him to rebuke Congress publicly and say he isn't giving up the presidency without a fight.  In which case, they'd probably have to send in the National Guard or something to escort him and his minions from the WH.

It seems clear to me that he used anti Semitic tropes to fool the rubes into voting for him. If Trump loves anyone on this planet it's Ivanka, so she and her husband were probably on board.  Meanwhile, we'll see what Jared Kushner has up his sleeve when it comes to Israel. I absolutely believe he's pulling the strings and I find it worrying. The status quo is ugly, but if Trump upsets it we could very well have a full on war in the middle east. I'm pro Palestinian (and plain old pro human) enough not to want to see anything like that happen.

I know we're all sick to death of polls but this goes to show that that letter by Comey in the last week and a half or so probably did a great deal of damage to Clinton as the Clinton campaign alleged.

    • Where do you discover this crazy rumor??
    • Jill Farren Phelps was always very skilled at saying what she meant onscreen in the bluntest way possible, like whenever she wanted fans to support one character vs. the other (hence Megan McTavish groaning about having to write Kale Browne's Sam Rappaport into three days a week at OLTL). Perhaps you should consider doing the same. Historically your intent is always far more obvious than your efforts at coy embroidery anyway. You believe people are dismissing Phelps' accomplishments, and suggest misogyny and fan blinders allow people to too easily pigeonhole and dismiss her skill set. I think we all understand her varied skill set. We're saying it's not enough to make up for her deficiencies as a storyteller and creative. JFP was undoubtedly a skilled technical producer. As a solo storyteller, and de facto HW, she was a repeat and predictable failure. She was not the first or last EP (male or female) to think she was a writer. If you want us to stop taking your behavior personally when you suggest misogyny is at play in board opinions of JFP, perhaps you should consider spending the next 10+ years here not acting like you're the only one who gets it.

Melissa was here today & we went to Michael's Crafts & Ofc Depot. In Michael's there were two beautiful LITTLE girls who kept staring at me, so I gave them a littel wave & very quietly said HI & then did back. I told Melissa they were staring at me. She smiled & said "Purple. A lot of little girls love purple & you forget but you have purple hair. Seeing you their whole imaginations are transformed! Thinking "That lady has purple hair. That means I can have purple hair! They had no clue before seeing you that it was possible." I just laughed & laughed.
    • This opening scene is hilarious...it's like someone wrote out the script for Philip with one hand. And Rick...sniffing a scarf over and over. And in their next scene they are still sniffing the [!@#$%^&*] scarf as the camera stays all over Philip's bare chest and armpits as he keeps working out. Insane stuff.

Bay City better be ready, because I'm back!   At Vicky's apartment she is once again drowning in doubts and jealousy. Deep down she realizes that her dream wedding will be a farce and nothing can change that. Bridget tries to calm her down, but the heroine is determined to suffer. She is not hearing any positive thoughts. She doesn't believe Jamie will marry her. At the Cory Publishing building another farce is in process. Iris, once again pretending to be the angel of love and sisterhood... is telling Mac and Rachel some wonderful news. When Iris has good news, you really need to look out for yourself. That's when things are bad. So what are the news? Miss Devil has put Amanda up for an award! Mac is smiling from ear to ear, and Rachel is suspicious. Maybe that's the effect Iris is looking for. To once again accent on the fact that Rachel doubts and criticizes her daughter. Iris will do anything to destabilize their relationship. She is like a cancer. Back to Vicky! Jamie is at the door. Looking like a sad puppy, he has come with a surprise. No, he is not gonna leave her and her unborn... Not yet. He has bought her earrings. Sad face. How nice. NOT. Victoria, of course... manages to break one of them the moment she touches it. Bad premonition maybe? She was back in hysterics. It's not easy to trap a man into marriage. Then you have to live with someone that didn't want you in the first place.  We were introduced to a new character (to me at least she is new) - Cass's sister - Stacey. She is giving me "hidden skeletons in the closet"-vibes. Love a girl like that. Stunning actress. I like her. The highlight of the episode was the strange and creepy reveal of Evan the escort... hugging someone named Janice's grave. I remember she had an issue with Rachel... and Rachel killed her in self defense I think... It was hinted in prior episodes, but I lack the context and story. I just know that everyone at the Frame house was mad that Rachel killed the bish. But I also got the impression that this Janice was sick in the head. So Evan is now talking to her grave and telling her he is going to ruin Rachel's life basically. Oh, Evan... I liked you better as a sexy gigolo.  Overall - 10/10 - how can I rate it lower when I haven't watched in months!!!

    • Once again, Marlena and Kayla were used very effectively and I couldn’t be happier.  Marlena counseling Johnny and then Chanel was the best part of today. They’re really delving into the human emotion of this storyline and I think that’s a good thing. It feels so much mature than it was before. EJ’s fear about what could happen to Johnny if he doesn’t let go of his anger could lead to some really good storylines in the future.  I also really appreciate the way that Paula/Jeanne are mixing it up and having different characters interact with each other. It was nice to see Shawn and Johnny remember that they’re cousins and share a scene together. I liked the parallel that was drawn between the two of them, and what’s going on with their fathers. I did have mixed feelings about everything with Cat though. I enjoyed Chanel warning her about EJ, mostly because it played into the way that she was written today. But I wasn’t the biggest fan of the Chad/EJ scenes. The two of them discussing Chad’s potential feelings for Cat didn’t really keep my interest.  But above all, I feel that everyone is being used more effectively and that we’re getting a better understanding of everyone as well. And that was exactly what Days needed.
    • It's a wild story for sure, especially the final conclusion (and fireworks offcamera, like Victoria Wyndham tearing into Michael Logan).
