According to an interview with, I think, Knots Landing Online, Pleshette's wife (and David Jacobs' ex-wife) had represented the Lechowicks as their agent until Lynn and Bernie suddenly decided to sever ties and go with another literary agency, claiming they wanted a better deal. Pleshette wrote for KL for awhile on a freelance basis after his departure, but he just couldn't (or wouldn't) agree with their way of telling stories.

I always had a soft spot for Richard, even though he was a weak, pathetic man. Even he realized it at the end. I think he had the most moving, understated exit of any character on KL.

KL was not a "realistic" show, per se, but the decision to allow Richard to return after Laura's death and show us that he had a happy, content life, while "good" and "nice" characters like Sid or Laura never had that chance, made the show true to life in a way most primetime soaps never were or are.

I think in the same interview, he said that he and Constance had a prickly relationship in the beginning, mostly because she'd lobbied for her husband Sam Weisman for the Richard role. Eventually he and Constance developed a good working relationship, but it took some time. He called Constance and Julie Harris the best actors on the show.

Richard/John Pleshette were amazing. I just don't know how Richard would have fit in with the new Knots Landing of season 5. But John Pleshette is an amazing actor/writer and I could never hate Richard as horribly as he treated Laura. And the Karen/Richard friendship in spite of how Richard treated Laura pissed me off too at times but I get it. It's like, the two liberal educated Jews on the block (and the characters weren't, but the actors were) gravitated toward each other. Richard was an amazing character. And it wasn't always in the writing, because I should've hated that emotionally abusive dick. It was in the episode "Night" written by John Pleshette, and it was in John Pleshette's performance, and it was in John Pleshette's chemistry with Constance and Michele.

Well said.

The relationship between Richard and Karen always interested me too. I thought it was very believable and a good example of Karen's double standards, as she was furious when Laura had a business relationship with Gary and Abby a few years later. If I remember correctly, Laura threw that double standard right in her smug face.

    • What consequences are there to suffer? He didnt commit any crime and everyone already hates him. If anything this will set back the progress he's made with Naomi
    • Yes and I also loved how she focused on Chelsea and Naomi when she spilled Bill's involvement in all of this.
    • Danny: Don't drink it. Just hold it. Rocco drinks three laced cups.

    • OH, I AM.   And it looks like it's a pretty good episode so I might watch later on this weekend after work cuz I see a lot of scenes with people I actually like. Very happy to see Rocco/Danny appear to be getting story, too.
    • I do agree that a revival of EON would work, if it doesn't fall into doing all of the typical soap opera tropes... which it became guilty of in the final few years of the show with the over abundance of Raven/Sky at the expense of the actual detectives, police, etc. And I know it was mentioned earlier that Raven had lost any true connections on the show with the death of her on screen mother, and the loss of April/Draper/Deborah.. and I do agree with that. I actually thought the show would have done something with the Shelley character that could have connected her to the Raven character.  There were a few scenes where the two would have scenes and size one another up before they would go their separate ways.. so I assumed perhaps they would have been revealed as half-siblings and/or perhaps cousins.  Alas.. not to be.
    • It definitely flowed beautifully. So much that I was annoyed when Vanessa/Doug because I wanted to get back to the party. I know it was intentional to build up tension and suspense. It worked. lol. I'm glad it was there in hingsight because it gave us that great conversation between Doug and Vanessa. Foreshadowing? And yesss!!! This episode was sooo old school soap giving beat after beat after beat leading up to the unveiling of Eva as Ted's daughter. And we still have plenty of fallout/aftereffects to work through.   Speaking of...Bill, Bill, Bill lol. Good to have confirmation HE was the scary lawyer.   I'm sure I will have a busy Monday, but I can't wait for it. I don't know what I'm looking forward to more. Probably Anita vs Silk Press Sheila tbh. And yes, I feel they will be matching each other 'blow for blow.'
    • And if they go there, it could also be tied to Johnny completely cutting him off, possibly going to work for Titan, etc.
    • @AbcNbc247 maybe it is just that they've gone to that well too often, and I don't like when DAYS goes dark, but I'm OK with EJ abusing drugs, and just skipping the whole sobriety part. Side note: experiencing hallucinations of my son killing me would be enough for me to never want to take a pill again.

    • Part of the reason that Courtney worked at OLTL was because the show had an actual character for her to play.  One that was somewhat different than her character on AW, and after the way she was treated over at AW.. it had to have been nice to be courted onto a new soap that actually valued your contributions.
    • I figured the "long" was already implied
