NOVEMBER 1977

ALL MY CHILDREN

Joe returned with the news that Ray wants big bucks from the Martins to adopt Tad. Frank was miffed when Carl, Nancy's white boyfriend, arrived and asked her to marry him. On a weekend in New York with Mark, Ellen grew more aware of their age difference. Brooke and Danny argued about dating Tom and Devon.

After a visit from Maureen, Mark's mother, Ellen realized she loved Mark. Phoebe started serving her weekend jail term for drunken driving. Ruth didn't agree with Joe's refusal to pay Ray for adoption rights to Tad. Claudette assured Nick she wanted to keep her job after Erica told him Claudette was still on parole. Benny kept Billy Clyde from telling Phoebe about Donna's operation. Chuck decided Donna actually may be pregnant. Little Phil accused Phil of not having time for him and said his real father would. David and Christina considered kidnapping Dottie. To incriminate Claudette. Erica asked Benny to get her some marijuana.

Erica got her come-uppance for trying to plant drugs on Claudette when Nick switched the marijuana back to Erica's purse. She was caught by the cops and served a court summons. Erica confessed to Nick her plot stemmed from her love for him. Brooke seduced Danny to play house while Phoebe was having the DTs during her jail term. Frank and Caroline became engaged. Ellen admitted to Harlan she loved Mark

Ray decided to pump Ruth and Joe for all they are worth if they want to adopt Tad. Erica was fined but smeared Nick in the process, then jumped to the mistaken assumption that she was unofficially engaged. Frank and Carolyn made wedding plans but Nancy had second thoughts about squealing and revealing her one night with Frank. Little Phil pulled his brat act at school and Linc tried to discourage David and Christina from taking Dottie out of the country.


ANOTHER WORLD

Despite Sven's threats, Iris confessed to Ada and Rachel what she had done to separate Mac and Rachel through Sven. Clarice's long lost father Charlie arrived. Olive used Molly's affair with Cliff as a threat to make MolIy testify against John at Olive's planned divorce hearing. Pat learned of John's financial problems. Willis and Alice confessed their love for each other. Iris feared she'd lose Brian because of her confessions.

Mac returned to learn Regine was pregnant and Sven told Mac he was the father. Mac finally agreed to sign Rachel's separation agreement when Rachel threatened to drag Regine into court if necessary. Regine wanted to tell Rachel the truth about Regine's baby. Alice and Ray argued over the disposition of Gordon Enterprises while Willis told Angie he realized he's in love with Alice and Angie. Olive agreed to hear Claude's plan to get rid of John when Evan threatened to leave her. Charlie Hobson jogged Ada's memory of Gil when he brought a gift for Nancy.

Mac was suckered when Sven drugged Regine and made it appear a suicide attempt to force Mac to marry her. Alice dissolved her company and became head nurse while Ray refused to give her a divorce. Olive resisted Evan and Claude's plans to make John a hit-and-run victim. Elena warned Gwen to get ready for a fight over Russ. Rachel's art gallery opening was a success.

Rachel introduced Austin and Amy Cushing to Quentin who sold Austin's paintings. Angie went to work for Jim instead of Ray's insurance company. Ray hired Charlie. Iris had a fit when she learned Mac would marry Regine as soon as Rachel agrees to a quicky divorce. Willis learned of Cliff and Molly's affair and confronted Cliff who arranged to leave town. Angie warned Alice she doesn't stand a chance with Willis. Pat was promoted and Liz took over her old job.


AS THE WORLD TURNS

After Bob confirmed that he loves Valerie, Lisa set out to get Grant back. Sandy and Kevin were married. Joyce gave Natalie a hard time but agreed to buy one of Natalie's houses, although Nat's business is going down the drain. John hoped Mary would forget the past and come to love him. Susan was informed she was reinstated by the board. Jane received a call from her husband's girlfriend that she needed money to take care of Ron's medical expenses. Jay and Natalie clashed over a property deal, but Ralph offered to help.

Lisa was shocked when Grant wanted time to think about a reconciliation. Grant later told Valerie he didn't know why he was hesitant about returning to Lisa. Alex and Dan clashed over hospital procedure. John had a setback and Mary went to see him. Jane found it difficult not to interfere when she learned Beau and Annie were having financial difficulties . Mark told Susan that he's in love with her. Natalie was upset when she saw the baby things Carol had bought while Jay encouraged Carol by taking an interest in the babv.

John's condition improved and he resolved to abandon his wicked ways. Lisa was thrown when Grant declined a dinner invitation. Natalie's business went downhill. Susan told Mark she cares for him but doesn't love him. Ralph fretted about Mary's concern for John. Beau accepted a loan from Jane.

Susan was unnerved by seeing Kevin who returned from his honeymoon with Sandy. Susan fumed at Alex's suggestion she might not have licked her drinking problems. After Jay refused to help Natalie out of her financial crunch she made plans to skip town. Joyce urged Don not to let people run over him at the company. Lisa had the holiday blues when Grant nixed her dinner invitation.


DAYS OF OUR LIVES

Dr Kate Winograd realized she's falling for Bill. Marie helped Jean move into a shelter for battered wives while Fred accused Maggie of being a homewrecker. Patty's taken an interest in Mike. Don was jealous of Marlena’s dependence on Paul, who left his invalid wife to care for Marlena. Larry decided to force Julie out of business. Trish comforted Toni whose baby is near death.

Don and Marlena argued about Samantha after Don had her arrested and returned to Salem. Samantha was later released into her parents' custody. Phyllis told Neil and Mary she was taking an extended trip abroad. Neil began drinking heavily after Phyllis left. Tom, who wants to return to work, was shocked when Bill told him he felt Dr. Griffin would not be willing to give up Tom's old job easily. Jean ran out on Fred after an unsuccessful attempt at reconciliation and Fred tumbled down a flight of stairs while going alter her. Dr. Griffin confessed to Marie that he operates promptly because his wife died when surgery wasn't done in time. David wasn't happy that Trish invited Toni to stay with them.

Amanda and Greg argued when he suspended Bill and Kate for performing unauthorized surgery on Fred. Jean blamed herself for the accident. Marlena confessed she still loves Paul. She rushed to Samantha's side during Sam's trial. Larry taunted Doug and Julie, saying he has hired Jeri. Doug's place was reopened under Julie's ownership.

Mike brought Margo home to meet the folks on Thanksgiving. Fred regained consciousness and threatened to sue all the Hortons when he realized his legs are paralyzed. Laura suggested it might be an hysterical reaction. Samantha's hearing was put on ice when she was packed off to her parents' hometown where she'll undergo psychiatric care. Marlena forgave Sam and Paul left as well. Doug took to the bottle because of his club fiasco. Linda denied she's using Tommy to keep Bob on the hook. The doctor Bill replaced on Fred's surgery was forced to give damaging evidence at Bill and Kate's medical board hearing.


THE DOCTORS

M.J. fretted about the fact that Tom hit Ricky on two occasions causing black and blue marks on the lad. Wendy and her boyfriend Ted split up over her inheritance, which Eleanor gave her while telling her to butt out of her life. Doreen signed Jason's divorce papers. Sara went to New York in search of Luke. Steve suggested that Tom seek professional help.

Steve and Carolee were married. Tom admitted to M.J. that he hit Ricky. Sara brought Luke back home and he offered his interest in Andre's to Doreen in order to repay Eleanor's loan. Greta was upset at hearing Kyle and Maggie discussing their brief affair. Kyle told Doreen his marital troubles. Eleanor made the decision to leave town.

Greta confided to Billy she overheard Maggie and Kyle discuss their affair, then accused Billy of taking Maggie's side. Erich was caught stealing. Luke broke all ties to Doreen who pleaded for another go-around.

The Aldriches joined the Dancys for Thanksgiving, while the Powers invited Kyle and Greta barely held her tongue. Doreen drank alone. Tom moved out after M. J. caught him as he was about to pitch boiling water onto Ricky. Tom admitted to Steve that his first wife left him when he forced her to have an abortion by falsely claiming he had Huntington's disease. Steve and Carolee found a new house, but Erich wants to stay at Mona's. Hoping to acquire more money for Nola's wedding, Barney swiped a hundred bucks from Virginia, but lost it on a bad bet.


THE EDGE OF NIGHT

Bill and Steve realized that Mike had changed his plea to protect Laurie who's having nightmares about killing Beau. Ray testified that he saw a young girl fitting Laurie's description kill Beau. Geraldine assured Tony she didn't think he was a hood and he admitted he has fallen in love with her. Raven made fun of April's frail condition while gloating about her engagement to Kevin. Raney admitted to Steve that Adam had drilled him about Ray's murder intentions.

While in a restaurant Geraldine and Tony witnessed Raven kissing Logan. Mike questioned Laurie to learn when she last saw Adam alive. Miles offered old college chum Dr. David Roper a job at the sanatorium. Miles was miffed when he learned Nicole had considered a change of hospitals and suspected Denise was behind it. Miles told April to beware of Raven's friendship. Saxon advised Deborah not to ditch Rancy too quickly, thinking perhaps she could make something of him.

Mike received a suspended sentence. Laurie cut her wrist but insisted it was an accident. Kevin learned he is sterile while Raven admitted to Geraldine she has doubts about the wedding. Bill was reinstated as chief of police. Deborah went behind Steve's back and accepted a date with Raney.

Tony was so grateful to Raney for saving Deborah from Otto's sexual attack that he offered Raney a respectable job. Geraldine advised Kevin not to tell Raven about his sterility since Raven doesn't want children. Bill was reluctant to investigate Adams' death since everyone suspects Laurie.


GENERAL HOSPITAL

Lesley and Rick honeymooned while Laura and Scotty spooned. No one realizes that Lana is the spli personality evil side of Lisa. Adam returned but broke off with Gina, who succumbed to Gary's sexual demands. Unaware that it was Heather's baby, the Taylors rejected lawyer Wallace's adoption-selling offer. Wallace and Mrs. Hadley plotted to find another buyer while keeping Heather in line. Monica worried that the birth control pills she gave Laura are causing side effects.

After reconsidering the adoption offer Peter and Diana made plans to go to New York to negotiate for the baby. Heather rejected her Hollywood offer and decided to keep her baby. Lesley was upset to learn Laura didn't stay with the Taylors while she and Rick honeymooned. Scotty was angry when Laura showed an interest in George Allison, a patient at the hospital. Lana faked an emergency to get Jeff to her apartment. Dorrie accused David of taking the easy way out by accepting Rick's hospitality. Mark was rewarded with a kiss when he told Kate he wanted to consult a specialist before making a decision to operate on Lamont.

Mrs. Hadley and her shady lawyer convinced Heather to give up her baby. The lawyer arranged for the unsuspecting Taylors to pay for an "abandoned" baby boy. The Lisa half of Lana came to the surface briefly when she called Jeff to tell him she loved him but not of her whereabouts. Lamont plotted to get Mark and Kate together. Adam confessed he still loved Gina, although she's resumed an affair with Gary. Lesley barely stifled her uneasiness when David moved in with her and Rick.

Katie fretted about Lamont's deteriorating condition while Mark called in specialists. Lesley softened her regard for David, while Laura took a special interest in him. Lana buttered up Jeff for a seduction and confessed she and Lisa played "twin" tricks on their boyfriends. Monica was further attracted to Alan while working on their helicopter operation study for cardiac patients. Peter and Diana returned home with their adopted son: Little Peter.


GUIDING LIGHT

Mike had his hands full, warding off Ann's sudden romantic attentions. Jackie learned that Alan Spaulding is coming to Springfield for tests and wondered if his wife and little Philip would come along. A specialist confirmed Ed's diagnosis that Evie's disease may cause blindness. Holly admitted there's something between her and Roger, but wouldn't tell Ed what it was.

Rita tumbled down a flighl of stairs while Georgene watched unobserved. Eve learned she has an 80 percent chance of going blind. She didn't tell Ben the truth about the disease, however. Mike will be honored as Man of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce and Bill decided to stay to see the ceremony. Ed is more sympathetic toward Roger since learning Roger is infertile but said Holly must see what role Roger will have in her and Christina's lives. Jackie was thrilled to see the young Phillip Spaulding.

While secretly watching Mike receive an award, Bill dropped a photo of the Bauer family which Rita found. Bill admitted he is the presumed-dead Bill Bauer but urged Rita not to reveal his presence since he can't tell her the whole truth about his "death." Jackie held a celebration party for Mike during which he was attracted to her houseguest, Elizabeth Spaulding, Alan’s wife. Justin noticed Jackie's affection for Phillip Spaulding. Peggy returned briefly but didn't know where Roger was and informed Holly and Ed she and Roger are finished.

Alan Spaulding joined his family and was attracted to Sara, who received a marriage proposal from Justin. Evie didn't tell Viola or Ben the real reason she postponed her wedding. Jackie told Elizabeth she is devoted to Phillip because she never had a child of her own. Rita freaked out when she learned Georgene is working at Cedars. Ann did a fast burn when Jackie taunted her about Mike, but Ann postponed exposing Jackie with the incriminating tape. Katie and Hillary moved in together. Rita struggled to keep Bill's secret from the Bauers.


LOVE OF LIFE

Hollenbeck conned Arlene into confessing she was present when Ian died. Arlene was arrested and told by Dory, who offered her services, that Arlene inherited lan's share of Beaver Ridge. Bruce became ill during a trip to New York. Rick grew jealous of Cal and Michael's time together. Arlene nixed Tom's marriage proposal.

Meg offered Rick the money to buy out ArIene's interest in Beaver Ridge. Charles insisted to Van that Felicia's baby is his only reason for living. Mia gave Ben's manuscript to a publisher and Ben surprised himself by asking Mia out. Bruce must return to New York for his test results. Dory felt Arlene wasn't given a fair shake by the press. Arlene unsuccessfully tried lo discourage Tom's attentions. Cal asked Rick to escort her to a coslume ball.

Mary Owens arrived to work for Charles as little Charles' new nurse. Bruce learned he has a dreaded blood disease. Arlene gave Rick control of her share of Beaver Ridge. Dory encouraged Eddie explaining they haven't lost the custody battle but the judge's deliberations may take months. Rick and Cal had a tiff when she found a gift robe from Meg in his club closet.

Eddie backed down on a Thanksgiving invitation from the Sterlings so that they could invite Charles. Arlene cooperated with Dory to find a line of defense. Charles made an effort to draw Mary out of her mysteriously solitary shell. Bambi comforted Ray about Arlene. Tom reaffirmed his love for Arlene.


ONE LIFE TO LIVE

Lana refused Brad's suggestion she get an abortion, then was sexually attacked by Clint. Will's one-night-stand with his ex-secretary Robin couldn't erase the memory of. Jenny, who accepted Brad's marriage proposal. Tony fumed that Dorian is trying to play matchmaker for Pat and Paul. Clint became Becky's manager, much to Richard's dismay.

Karen had a case of the guilt after going to bed with a stranger in return for an expensive dress she wanted. Richard saved Becky from Clint’s attempted rape in the neck of time. Edwina gloated when Dorian appointed her instead of Richurd as Paul's assistant. Brian told Pal he hated her after he saw Pat and Tony in an embrace. Lana returned to work and tried to organize her life . Will told Jenny and Brad he felt they were making a mistake by wanting to rush into marriage. Samantha was surprised to learn Tony respected Will’s advice.

Jenny had the jitters on her wedding eve and Lana went on a bender with Marco. Brad tried to keep Lana on ice but before the nuptials took place, he found her body. Traumatized by seeing Pat and Tony together, Brian was admitted to the hospital under Peter's care. Robin made another pitch for Will. Becky was wary of Edwina's fake friendship, while Edwina did her best to make Becky feel inferior in front of Richard. Joe insisted on returning to work.

Jenny cancelled the wedding and Brad was incriminated in Lana's death when his ring was found in her apartment. Cathy insisted it wasn't suicide. Karen went bananas over Lana's death. She went on a bar-hopping look for Mr. Goodbar and kept on trucking while blowing Larry's money left and right. Sam shared Brad's confidence about finding Lana's "tell-all" note to Jenny. Will had the guilts after succumbing to Robin’s charms.


RYAN’S HOPE

Mary and Jack found themselves locked in a storage room, thanks to the schemes of Maeve, Tom, Faith and Frank who thought the kids only needed to talk out their problems in order to resolve them. Frank won the city councilman election, and Rae was sparked by his political possibilities. Roger provided a shoulder for Rae who was distressed about Bill's future.

Jack and Mary talked about Ryan and found they were less hostile toward each other. Dee, who's being released from the hospital, confessed to her doctor that she faked her breakdwon. Jill became jealous of Rae's interest in Frank while Pat feared a hospital strike would endanger Bill’s life. Roger suspected Alicia knew Dee lied about her miscarriage. Tom regretted helping bring Mary and Jack back together.

Everyone approved of Mary and Jack's reconciliation except Johnny who was in a snit about Maeve's match-making ploy. Rae admitted to Roger her marriage has been sexually unfulfilled, then satisfied her urges with Roger. Bill apologized to Rae for a jealous tantrum and suggested they groom Frank for a senatorship. Dee was released and once again wrapped Pat around her little finger.

Between accommodating Dee's every whim and doing strike duty, Pat popped pep pills to remain perky. Jack was relieved to learn Miriam isn't a rotten nurse and was in cahoots with Maeve. Dee feared that Alicia would spill the beans about Dee's pre-marriage miscarnage. Bill decided to endorse Frank for a Senate seat. Tom came to grips with Mary and Jack's remarriage plans.


SEARCH FOR TOMORROW

Greg consulted with Liza's doctor about reconstructive surgery for Liza's scar. Kathy ranted at everyone and told David to get off her back. Janet didn't look forward to being released and returning to a house full of memories of Wade. Jo tried to help Meredith adjust to life in Henderson, but didn’t get too far.

Kathy was hospitalized after confessing to Scott that she doesn't know who the father of her baby is. Later. Scott met Donna Davis, an alcoholic, in a bar. Carolyn and Gary discussed getting married soon. Greg coaxed Meredilh into attending school in Henderson. Cindy accepted a college ring from Tom.

Liza decided to undergo Greg's reconstructive facial surgery. Carolyn treated Kathy and learned the reason for her hysteria. Cindy gleefully accepted Tom's marriage proposal. Meredith resented Jo's offer of friendship. After Scott told Donna about his anger at Kathy's infidelity Donna mysteriously disappeared.

Stu disapproved of Tom and Cindy's wedding plans. Steve returned to await the results of Liza's surgery. Kathy moved to a sanitarium for a rest. Scott searched for Donna. Meredith sulked, feeling Jo comes first in Greg's life. Janet resolved to lead a new life and insisted Steve and Liza live in their own apartment.


THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS

Lorie met a "John Doe" in Hong Kong who denied being Lucas although he bears the infamous tattoo. Vanessa arranged for Lorie's book to be a bestseller in order to expose Lorie to Lance. Before leaving for Alaska with Marion, Ron apologized to Nancy for his evil deeds and she began to improve. Brock grew suspicious of Cynthia's interest in Leslie's life. Jill was dashed that Derek didn't see through Kay's ploys.

Ron decided to stay in town after Nancy was released from the hospital. Nancy told Ron she wants Karen back home with her. Vanessa fumed when a New York critic refused lo review Laurie's book. Brad refused to give up Leslie after Cynthia told him Les had divorced him and was interested in Brock. Lance was shocked to learn Brock asked Les to marry him. Chris refused Stuart's offer to stay with him while Snapper is out of town on medicial business. Stuart asked Liz to celebrate her birthday with him.

While Brock gave Leslie a ruby ring in Rio, Brad returned to Genoa City where Stu presented him with Les' divorce papers. Stu learned Brad regained his sight. Lance resented Lorie for bringing Lucas home. Vanessa was overjoyed and insisted she didn't blame Lucas for the fire. Liz had a
birthday night on the town with Stu,

Leslie returned from her romantic rendezvous with Brock and found Brad at the apartment. Lorie convinced Lucas to drop anchor but Lance warned him to remember who's flag Lorie flies under. Lucas persuaded Vanessa to set a surgery date. She frantically tried to cancel her book publicity plans for Lorie's book but it's already successful. Nancy was distressed when Karen didn't acknowledge her as her mother. Kay lavished money on Derek's new wardrobe.

Paul Whitman was a doctor who arrived in October 1977 to take care of Marlena after she was released from the sanatorium Samantha put her in. He was an old flame of her but the character was written out in November as you can read in the summary.

He was played by Peter MacLean who had already played Hugh Clayborn on "The Secret Storm" (1970), John Rainey on "Where the Heart is" (1971-1973), Scott McKenzie on "Somerset" (1974-1975). After DAYS, he played Dean on GH (1982) and a minister on "Santa Barbara" (1987).

My, the plight of the Stapleton sisters. Especially Rita. She's dealing with Holly, Bill, and the chance of going blind. That woman had alot on her plate at the time.

ALL MY CHILDREN

Nancy admitted she's pregnant. Estelle and Benny worried that Phoebe planned to stick it to Donna via Billy Clyde's information about Donna's barren condition. Edna conned David into a night out, then teased him saying Chris is looking for greener pastures with Jeff. Kate urged Phoebe to keep a leash on Brooke where Danny is concerned.

Jeff helped con Edna so that David and Christina could vacation. Phil and Chuck broke up Phoebe's meeting with Billy Clyde but Phil learned Donna's secret. He and Tara decided Chuck should know. Ray pulled a switch on Paul by arriving unexpectedly in Pine Valley where he struck up a friendship with Edna before confronting the Martins.

Phil had to work and Chuck escorted Tara to Frank and Carolynn's wedding while Nancy held her tongue about her pregnancy. Ray parked himself at Edna's while putting the screws to Ruth and Joe. Brooke slummed with Benny in the red light district and Danny and Devon snuggled closer. Phoebe took a drunken tumble down a flight of stairs. Chris' and David's vacation was ruined when they learned Edna left Dottie alone at night.

David and Chris returned when Dottie became ill. Ray got a job as a dishwasher with Nick by using an alias. Nancy refused an abortion. Devon was devastated when her father remarried. Phoebe pulled a sick and lame act to gain sympathy from Charles. Ray threatened that unless the Martins gave in to Ray's demands Tad would go back with Ray.

ANOTHER WORLD

Iris broke the news to Rachel about Regine's pregnancy and pleaded with Rachel not to let Mac be taken in. Iris learned Regine is being forced into her action because of Sven's threats. Regine kissed off Cliff. Liz was both tickled and annoyed that Jim was jealous of Charlie's attentions to Ada.

After rebuffing Mac’s reconciliation plan and Greg's offers of comfort Rachel left for Point Claire with Amy and Austin. Olive squealed to Michael about Molly, then bribed Molly to leave town.

Molly returned long enough to tell Mike about Evan. Olive lured John into the new house according to Evan's scheme of setting John up with another woman. Olive was unaware, however, that Evan's real plan was to murder John. Rachel returned, but nixed a quickie divorce. Mac fired Sven after Iris confessed that Sven continued to lurk in the shadows.

Marianne returned to discover that John was arrested for Evan's murder after he gun-wrestled with Evan, whose murder plans real backfired. John was comatose after witnessing Olive bewail the loss of her lover. Ray left to tend his ill boys in California. Quentin accepted a New York offer and turned the gallery over to Elena. Brian forgave Iris her transgressions. Liz was turned off when she learned Charlie is opening a repair shop in Ada's garage, and Molly left for good.

AS THE WORLD TURNS

Natalie refused financial assistance from Tom but conned Carol into giving her loot, then skipped town. Dee stifled her jealousy over Tom and Melinda dating. Alex encouraged Mary to visit John frequently. Jane insisted she could use her influence to get Beau a better job. Val and Grant moaned to each other about the flops of their respective marriages. Carol and Tom were appalled that Jay's only concern is for the return of his money and not the baby.

Grant fell into Valerie's arms after telling Lisa he can't trust Lisa's emotions. Jay grew attracted to Melinda when she tended him after a fight with one of his employees. After meeting Jane, Joyce pressured Don to join the country club. Dan and Alex were at each other's throats when Alex took over Dan's teaching schedule.

Valerie sang the blues while Lisa made progress in winning back Grant. Jay promised revenge on his ex-foreman, Pete Larson, who was found murdered. Jay was with Melinda that night but to cover up in front of Carol he asked client Fred McGili to give him an alibi. Kevin was leary of loaning Ralph business capital. Joy gave Don grief when he wanted to renege on the house deal.

A mystery woman entered Bob's life by giving Frannie a gift. Lisa lit up like a tree when Grant agreed to reconcile. Jay's fake alibi fell through when Pete's neighbor identified Jay who was arrested but let out on bail. Joyce wrangled an invitation to a Christmas party even though John had already accepted another invitation. Ralph received financial backing from Kevin. Alex urged Susan to separate their private and professional lives.

DAYS OF OUR LIVES

Bill and Kate were fired. Greg and the board reinstated Tom after Walter relinquished some of his duties. While Doug left for an out-of-town singing engagement, Larry secretly undermined the employes at Julie's club. She called him for help when she and Robert disagreed. Marlena and Don reunited.

Doug returned but Julie kept mum about club difficulties. She realized Jeri is interested in Larry. Greg resigned over Bill and Kate's firing. Mary fumed when Linda succeeded in seducing Bob.

Tom advised Greg to stay on staff and to testify for Kate and Bill who grew chummy while Laura grew jealous. Doug struck out on a record deal and cancelled the singing date with Hope and Julie for the holidays. Chris reconciled with Mary after raking her over the coals after learning of her past affair with Neil.

Laura spent Christmas at the Hortons while Bill gifted Kate with a present and a kiss. It was on again off again when Chris discovered Neil on Mary's door step, unaware she was kicking him out. Patti dated Ron on the fly. Larry wined and dined Jeri. David was suspicious when he overheard Margo tell Trish that Mike talks about Trish all the time. Samantha's doctor suggested Marlena come for a visit. Larry's spy tried to waylay Trish and was put on the carpet by Robert.

THE DOCTORS

Doreen tried to convince her daddy, Evan, that Nola was responsible for Doreen's marriage failure. But Mona confirmed Nola's tale that the fault lay with Doreen, who slept her way around the world. Virginia agreed to let Jason pay for the wedding. Barney's horse came through and he and Virginia planned to go into business after she quit her job with Mona.

Evan disinherited Doreen and she swore revenge on Nola. Maggie learned from Carolee that Greta's attitude stems from her knowledge of Maggie and Kyle's affair. Steve and Carolee moved into their new home after seeing things right with Erich. Tom nixed moving back with M. J. while he's attending Parents Anonymous meetings.

Matt raged when he learned of Maggie and Kyle's affair and she moved out. Nola broke her engagement to Jason after Doren blabbed that he took part in breaking up Nola's singing career. During a Parents Anonymous meeting M. J. realized her attitude pratically drove Tom to his abuse of Ricky. They agreed to live together again. Billy dated Greta against Matt's wishes.

Sarah and Mona did their best to reunite Jason and Nola. Carolee fretted about Eric's health which is on the bum. Kyle made a stab at setting Greta straight and she had the guilts for blabbing to Matt about Maggie and Kyle. Doreen had a lonely Christmas after being rebuffed by her father.

THE EDGE OF NIGHT

Logan refused to give Raven the satisfaction of attending her wedding to Kevin which took place. Miles' former colleague, Doctor Roper, offered him a job at a clinic. Laurie began psychiatric consultatios after confessing to Draper she killed Beau.

After a long labor Nicole gave birth. Logan attended Raven's wedding at the last minute and later received a teasing call from her on her honeymoon night. Mike nixed Nancy's suggestion that they admit that it was Laurie who killed Beau. Raney accepted Tony's job offer.

Bill learned the truth about Laurie before she was taken to a sanitarium. Denise fumed that Miles spent time caring for Nicole and Adam Jr. rather than playing up to her daddy and her clinic donor pals. Miles told a sleeping Nicole that he loved her.

Mike and Laurie were exonerated when Steve realized she only fired one bullet into Beau. It was Ray Harper's additional two slugs that killed Beau. Tony proposed to Geraldine. Draper spent Christmas with April. Nicole left Clairmont with Adam Jr. for the home Geraldine found for them.

FOR RICHER FOR POORER

The show premiered on December 6th, 1977

Rachel Cory boarded with Amy and Austin Cushing while running away from Mac. Preparations were made for the marriage of Megan Cushing and Bill Saxton.

Megan cancelled her wedding when Connie admitted she's pregnant with Bill's child. Les skipped when Ellie wouldn't allow him to attend the wedding and he spent time in jail for drunkenness. Laurie's mother, Viola, persuaded her to acquire some of Desmond's stocks. Bentley Saxon told sister Tessa he plans to quit college to help support the family.

Les returned home while Tessa blamed Ellie for nagging their father to drink. Bill agreed to accept his resonsibilities after Megan admitted that Connie proved she was pregnant. Laurie rebuffed Jason's advances and Viola warned her to steer clear of him. Edith urged Austin to help out at the company, Barbara asked George to be her lawyer.

GENERAL HOSPITAL

Gina nixed moving in with Gary who asked for a job at the hospital to be near her. Heather's lawyer warned she can never get her son back after she complained the was getting too little money out of the deal. Jeff's detectives located Heather.

Laura nixed making love with Scotty after Lesley expressed her trust in Laura's actions. Lana contracted pneumonia and was rushed to emergency. Monica chose to work with Alan rather than returning to hospital duty. Mark and Kate realized Lamont is pushing them together in the event of Lamont's death.

Jeff found Heather who backed up Mrs. Hadley's story that Stepehn Lars had died of pneumonia. Mark resisted Kate's insistence that he perform surgery on Lament. Dorrie and Jessie realized Lana is acting like two different people. Scotty was left out in the cold by Laura who has taken an interest in David. Rick chastised Monica for taking Lesley's place with Laura.

Mark tried to stifle his growing attraction for Kate. Heather refused Jeff's offer to set her up in Port Charles, then skipped out on Mrs. Hadley. Peter put one and one together and suspected Lana and Lisa are one and the same. Laura and Lesley fought over Laura's friendships with David and Scotty, who moved into his own apartment. Then Les found birth control pills in Laura's purse. Monica agreed to spend Christmas with Alan and his parents, Edward and Lila Quartermaine. Gina didn’t fell for Adam's threats to get a transfer unless she gives him a chance in her love life.

GUIDING LIGHT

Ann destroyed the infamous tape when Jackie double-dared her to play it to Mike and warned he could never be drawn to Ann because she's a reminder of Leslie's death. Ed confirmed that Evie's going blind. Elizabeth fretted that Alan only responds to her sexually.

Mike was tormented after spotting a picture of Hillary's stepfather and noting the resemblance to his own oresurned-dead father.

Mike arrived in Vancouver for a reunion with Bill who wouldn't reveal why he's pretended to be dead all these years. Katie was attracted to Peter but he was intrigued with Holly. Mike and Rita suspected Georganne of ransacking Rita's apartment.

Mike left Vancouver as Hillary joined Bill for the holidays but Mike kept Bill's secret from the other Bauers. Evie admitted at Ben's gallery opening she has lost her sight and can't marry him. Holly told Barbara she can't wait forever for Ed and has started dating Peter. The Spauldings moved into their own home. Alan offered Adam a job with his industrial development which Mike opposes. Ed related his annual Christmas story for the children's ward.

LOVE OF LIFE

Arlene admitted she wants to marry Tom if she's cleared. But after taping Arlene's story of what happened the night of lan's death, Dory warned Tom they're in for a long court haul.

Arlene's trial began. She learned she's pregnant with lan's child. Meg warned Ben about dating Mia and getting involved in her romantic schemes. Andrew admitted to Bruce he wasn't ready to get into the social swing. Michael dreamed about Cal while Meg cautioned Rick about the two youngsters.

Arlene confessed she planned to shoot Ian but chickened out and that Ian slipped and fell down the elevator shaft. The mystery of Mary's background deppened when she blurted to Charles and Van that beautiful women like Arlene aren't always acquitted.

Arlene was found guilty and was told by the prison doctor it's too late for an abortion. The Sterlings planned a big wingding. Andrew was reluctant to invite Mia for fear people would think they are reconciling. Michael remembered discovering about hanky panky in his family when he was young.

ONE LIFE TO LIVE

Marco blackmailed Karen to give him an alibi for the night Lana died. Karen blabbed to Jenny that Lana was pregnant but Brad denied he was the father. Will treated Brian who wouldn't communicate with Pat.

Brad taunted Cathy, insinuating she might be going crazy ayain if she believed Lana's fantasies. Richard seduced Becky. Wanda and Vinnie returned. Edwina and Dorian shamed Becky into a self-improvement program. Karen went on another sexual fling when Larry heard her testimony about being with Marco.

Becky decided not to move in with Richard and returned to Ina Hopkins, her landlady when she had nightmares about a man who would pursue her wherever she goes. Tony fumed when Pat broke a weekend date in New York after Paul convinced her it would further traumatize Brian. Ina struck up with a friend, Ethan Bottomly, who works in the newspaper morgue. Samantha gave Ed a fake alibi for Brad.

While Becky gave Richard the cold shoulder, Edwina heated his fire. Lana's inquest began with Cathy's accusations against Brad. Vinnie was suspicious of Karen's fake alibi for Marco. Wanda attended women's-consciousness raising sessions. Marco denied to come clean rather than go along with Brad's blackmail game.

RYAN’S HOPE

Johnny softened up with Jack and Mary were remarried and Jack insisted they go to Ireland for the honeymoon. Pat crumbled under the influence of pep pills. Faith admitted to Mary she's attracted to Tom.

Rae threatened Seneca saying she'd use the influence of her newspapers to back Frank's negotiating plans unless the trustees agreed to the committee's demands. Jack and Mary honeymooned in Ireland. Bill's secretary, the spying Royal, suspected Rae's spending time with Roger.

Bill hired a detective. Royal was unable to catch Rae in the act. Rae and Roger cooled it. Dee asked Roger to secretly check on Pat's health after he passed out while on a Coney Island jaunt. Jill and Seneca fumed when Frank publicized negotiation secrets. Seneca warned Pat that his medical career would be kaput if Frank used the strike to gain political points. Dee learned Roger is seeing a woman on the sly.

Bill's worse fears about Rae were confirmed when his detective reported on her rendezvous with her lover. The hospital settlement was ratified and provisions were made to change disciplinary procedures for Pat and Faith. Faith was curious why Tom smashed a photographer's camera rather than have his photo taken. Mary and Jack sent Christmas gifts from Ireland, while Pat downed more pills. Seneca again proposed to Jill who became ill.

SEARCH FOR TOMORROW

Tom realized Stu was right about money-grubbing Cindy and chickened out of a quickie Las Vegas wedding. Cindy left for parts unknown.

David met Donna in a bar and learned she's boozing on the job. Suzi was rushed into Greg's operating room with a ruptured appendix. Steve submitted company improvement plans to executives Bill Mandell and Howard Horton. Greg advised Liza that her scars will heal completely.

Stephenie told Jo to butt out after Jo tipped John that Stephenie might be setting a trap. Scott bailed out Donna after she was arrested for drunkenness and set her up in an aprtment when she was fired.

The gang held a songfest at Jo's Inn. Bill hired Donna on Scott's recommendation. John and Suzie planned to spend Christmas with Stephanie and Wendy. Meredith tried a new ploy with Jo by pretending to be nicey nice. Bruce felt discouraged that Amy's job is taking her away from him

THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS

Derek ordered Jill not to bad-mouth Kay when Jill suggested Kay was trying to buy him. Nancy told Ron they can't leave town without Karen.

Lorie fought off Lucas' kissing advances.

Leslie enjoyed the battle for her affections between Brock and Brad. Derek accepted a Christmas invite from Jill, while Kay learned it's still, possible for her to conceive a child.

Greg returned after months away. Leslie agreed to spend Christmas Eve with Brad and Christmas day with Brock and Stu. Kay gifted Derek with a Jaguar, but was upset to learn his ring gift was sent by mistake from the store. Snapper allowed Karen and Chris to think a toy he gave Karen was from him but it was actually from Nancy. Jill admitted to Greg she loves Derek.

SFT had Henry Slesar take over.What were his first stories/characters?

LOL and The Doctors also got new writers.what can we see in the synopses that indicate thhe month this happened.?

At GH Doug Marland began late 77.I think that Scotty,Alan and Lee's return were under the previous writer.Was David Hamilton a Marland creation or did he just refashion the character for a new story.

It was under Gloria Monty and Marland that GH took a huge leap in the ratings thru 78 and 79.

People tend to think that it was Luke and Laura on the run and Ice Princess/spies that were Monty's trademark - true,later on, but with Marland the show was classic soap with emphasis on the hospital. It was the Marland/monty combo that took the show to the top in the first place.

I know that Ann Marcus became HW of Days in May. For other shows it's hard to know. In GH, Tex & Irving Elman introduced back Scotty Baldwin before the Hollands came back for a month or two and then Doug Marland of course.
