I can’t wait until David and Aaron return. The show is stepping up a gear now, especially with the most recent cliffhanger. Although, Reece’s search for her MIA sister lacks energy, but so does Mischa Barton’s performance.

I loved Monday’s episode; it really packed an emotional punch with the resolution to last Thursday’s cliffhanger. Wendy putting her life on the line simply to make up for her meddling in the Varga-Murphy’s business said a lot about the integrity (and stupidity) of her character. Then JJ drops the paternity bomb…

Everything with Eden suddenly ramped up. There has to be more to him than meets the eye.

How is everyone else finding the show now it’s ramping up the drama?

Monday, 11/13:

  • Starting off the week with a recap of the 2022 year, mixed with some of the recent episodes is fun. I could have done without Mel's return, though... as she and Toadie did not belong together, and they still don't. I appreciate the new shooting angles as Terese & Toadie walked into the home. Having to suspend my continuity beliefs for this is everything, because it's been done so well within the first flashback alone. Immediately including Krista in this is brilliant. Absolutely brilliant... with Mel being the voiceover of what's playing out. ALL of the familiar faces! I missed these people, and it's so nice seeing them! So Melanie is a fugitive? Oh, that's juicy!!!!

Tuesday, 11/14:

  • Holly dropping the bombshell that she returned to town two years earlier was excellent, and the super-imposed flashback with what aired was hilarious. I love that, and I love seeing the evolution of Holly & Susan's relationship... knowing where they started and where they are now. Terese's anger is justified. It really is. The introduction of Kelly / Krista is awesome. Two episodes into her actually appearing and I am enjoying her. Like the previous, I am enjoying the voiceover from Holly. And now Mel is involving someone else...? Interesting. Hmmm. And I know Reese is meant to be included within these episodes, but her scenes just feel out of place, and kind of wish they'd been cut. Aaron! David! nüNicolette!! Loving this!!

Wednesday, 11/15:

  • I wonder: how were Eden & Krista so conning together? Neither seem viable or capable of it to be honest. Not Mel involving my poor David.  So now Eden targets children, too? That's scary AF! Ugh. Eden is the ultimate PIG! Holly is the innocent in this. Poor thing. Oh! Look! My faves are back in town... and here comes Paul's involvement. Oooh. This is heating UP! I am SO stoked!!

Thursday, 11/16:

  • Here we go! The conclusion! I am SO ready for this. Love having Aaron, David and Nicolette back on the canvas. Hoping they stick around. Ugh. Melanie & Toadie just do not belong together and these flashbacks hammer that home. You damn well know Krista's addiction is fueling this... but oh my goodness... the accident on top of the roof? Wow. That's insane!! whew. Mel, darling, maybe the CPR didn't work because you were doing it into her throat? AND THIS IS WHERE PAUL COMES INTO PLAY?! That's INSANE! Right before his wedding!! I know people want Paul & Terese and Melanie & Toadie back together, but... I'm kind of loving the intense tension between Melanie & Paul in these scenes. Pair them up. Paul protecting David and his family? I would have never thought... but now we know why Paul left Terese at the alter. Dun dun dun... Paul finds out Krista & Reese's connection. The look of shock on his face is priceless. And the inclusion of scenes from the premiere episode of the revival? A nice touch. GO TERESE! GO! Rebekah Elmaloglou is fantastic!! She ate the material and really just... made it her own!!

Overall thoughts:

  • This, right here, is how you handle a time jump and throwback scenes. Looking at what Neighbours has done, and even comparing it to what Days of Our Lives did and there is no comparison. Neighbours won out. The storytelling is better, production value is better (obviously) and the acting was 100% better. Everything makes sense, and there is still room for this story to be told over time, and I cannot wait to see how it continues to unfold. I genuinely hope Neighbours is eligible for Daytime Emmy consideration, because it would win hands down. It really would.

Very surprised about Summer coming back, I can’t even remember the last time she or any of the Hoyland family were referenced on the show (well aside from Izzy I guess).

Also is it not a bit early for the Christmas stuff? Unless the show’s taking a break for a few weeks over the Christmas/New Year period in which case their end of year is happening pretty soon maybe?

    • A full 1973 episode that looks fantastic in color.
    • It 's obviously cheaper to go the true crime route. Having different reporters and production teams covering a variety of topics costs more. The networks are delivering budget programming these days.
    • Maybe because 60 Minutes has kept the same formula for almost 57 years? Usually, there is more than one interview/topic discussed, like a real magazine. Dateline, 20/20, and so many others have all fallen to the one-subject formula: True crime. I mean, I'm a Forensic Files junkie and loved original America's Most Wanted back in the day, but even I think the TV market has been over-saturated with all crime, all the time. There was still that element when these shows began, but they were a segment of an episode, not the entire episode. Maybe the audience is just getting bored with such a fixed formula. If stories were intermixed with crime, some feel-good segment, and maybe something to do with lifestyle/music/and yes, as much as I have come to hate it, political issues, maybe these shows could rally. As they are - again, minus 60 Minutes - they have become tired and predictable.
    • Interesting tidbit- Robert Newman (Josh) dated Jennifer Cooke (Morgan) when they first started on Guidling Light (it was reported in the press and I think they talked about it in interviews). I did see (as a young kid) Rita having a flashback about Roger's rape of her --and it was confusing as a kid because she was on the floor leaning against her bed and she looked like she was seduced by force and her dress was in disarray, her hair was mussed, make up was a bit messy, but she looked at him with fear, disgust and confusion but the camera was in soft focus (so I get why people may say it was romanticized)--and I remember asking what happened to her and told well she is having nightmares/flashbacks of Roger not being nice to her
    •   Like I said I wasn’t talking about characterization. It makes sense that Dani is in denial. However literally no one in the real world would accuse someone of faking a pregnancy. Why? Because it’s just not feasible. What is Dani supposed to expect from Hayley—that she’ll be hiding a pillow under her shirt 24/7? Come on. The accusation has no legs, and that’s exactly why nobody would ever go there. A far more plausible accusation—one that actually has been made for centuries—is that someone might lie about who the father is. Dani only vaguely hinted at that, but at least that angle would make some narrative sense. I’d go for a coworking space that would be home to these small businesses like Kat and Chelsea’s bag startup (the whole police station trope feels like copaganda to me)
    • I guess RTPP looked worse because it followed Another World, but it's a shame they didn't give it more time especially considering how the shows that were put on following it fared.

    • Durkin was awful. The writing did her no favors, but she was all wrong for the part, lacking the mix of mystery, steeliness, sorrow and hesitancy that defined Victoria. I still have the awful memory of Adam lugging her around like a rag doll. She looked much more like one of the Blue Whale dancing extras than Victoria. And her voice... Maybe I am too harsh. With that said, Curtis didn't seem as bothered. I see from a fan review mentioning Barnabas & Company that Durkin was asked to return for Victoria's final episodes and declined as she had a Christmas trip to Europe with her husband planned and wasn't interested in just a few appearances.  I refuse to believe Victoria actually died during the Leviathan storyline. If Barnabas and Angelique could come back 8 times, she could come back a few.
    • It's a shame she only appeared in three episodes for the purpose of being written out - I thought she was quite good in the little we saw. I liked her vibe better than Durkin that never seemed to quite capture Victoria as a character.
    • He did a lot of romance novel covers, so that might've just been enough for them to get their panties in a twist.
