Sad to hear this. The first few years of the show could feel heavy, but Frank and Janie often had more of a fire to them and felt very believable as a couple. I was sorry when they were written out (and when they randomly broke them up offcamera a decade later).

I like to imagine that Janie's 1986 appearance never happened, and that she and Frank lived happily ever after.

Happy 85th birthday to the wonderful Katharine Barker, the original and best Dolly Acaster-Skilbeck, and my all-time Emmerdale favourite. We only had her for 169 episodes, but that was enough to make an indelible impression. 🥰

So sad! I love Frank and Janie in the early episodes, especially Frank. I wish the show had invested more in the non-Sugden characters so that they could have been around a lot longer. I know, it’s insane to think that this show was once too focused on the Sugdens.

@I Am A Swede The Emmerdale powers that be recently said "Annie Sugden would be proud of" Robert/Aaron getting Butler's Farm (now renamed Emmerdale Farm) and Cain and Moira getting their own farm (Dingle Farm).

I thought it was a great example of how little producers of recent decades get about the family or characters of the early days, well-meaning or not.

Annie loved her family farm - she wasn't a fairy godmother of all farms in Beckindale. And that family farm was taken from her even before she left the village. She wouldn't care about a cadre of killers buying farms, other than Robert, and she would probably just feel sad about so many of the choices Robert has made.

They should have focused more on what Annie would have wanted before they decided to invent a grandson for her just to make him a serial killer.

I don't think they have any idea who Annie really was. They just like to pay lip service to the show's history without any real knowledge (or interest) to back it up.

I'm behind, but Ryan Hawley did some really beautiful, subtle work as Victoria and he argued over selling their share of the farm and she then left for Portugal.

And, of course, Joshua Richards is so good as Bear deals with his guilt it's hard to believe he's even acting.

He's amazing, but I really just want that story to end already.

According to The Sun, Bromley's time in the village will be coming to an end, with soap bosses deciding they have done all they can with the character.

That hasn't stopped them from keeping all those Dingles!! 🙄
