This week was rough to get through. I never need to see Cathy in a prominent story, and we all know how trash the Nazir story is. However, I did like how rough Cathy was with Roy. Not many people take off their kid gloves with him, so it was fascinating to watch. And I hope they're going to continue on Alya being power hungry. She could become a favourite if they show her slowly becoming more hungry, more selfish, more cold. Kind of like seeing a Carla in the making.

Mary needs to die yesterday, today, and tomorrow. Awful. They break up Todd/Tracy and replace him with Mary? That is what viewers should be complainign about, not some stilted Kunte Kinte line. Awful. And can this show give something for Kim effing Tate to do. If they weren't going to use her for something big, they shouldn't have cast her in the first place. Awful. Kate Oates really needs to up her supporting story game, because it's a slog.

Claire King isn't playing Kim effing Tate. That's the problem. Her character was brought on as a love interest for Nick and they've never known what to do with her.

I like Mary. I don't mind her as a character. She is one of the few smaller characters I want to stick around as she brings light and joy to the show. Plus, she has good chemistry with Erica and Dev.

I like Erica too. She and Dev were a good couple. That story stupidly got tossed aside for the drivel on air now. I am so sick of Maria being a victim for the 100th time. It's old. I don't care about Maria/Aiden. I truly don't care about Michelle/Steve/Leanne/Nick. Phelan is a bore. Craig's daddy story is meh. I agree that the Nazir story is blah too. Todd and Billy would be more interesting if they'd steam it up.

I've been saying this for weeks, but Corrie is the show that seriously needs to drop about 50% of its cast. This show has so much deadweight on it....

I like Mary a lot, too. I especially enjoy her when she appears in scripts written by Damon Rochefort and Jonathan Harvey. Yes. she's a very sitcom-like character and camp as Christmas but I'd miss her if she went.

David and Nick's talk in Friday 2nd episode was touching. Like their brother interaction. Same with Bethany and Sarah. The Platts are great lately.

Can't wait for Phelan's downfall. Hope Eileen will get the upper hand.

Wondering about Audrey and Freddie. Wasn't she kind of dating Ken?

I think it's hilarious that fun bitch Jude on Hollyoaks has the same plot as Phelan/Vinny, who are basically supposed to be evil bastards. It makes them look like such amateurs. It's almost like Hollyoaks is laughing in their face.

End of an era with Jean and Tony Warren gone. She still popped up to offer comments on Corrie (some I agreed with...some I did NOT) up to several years ago. People remember the "muriel" and curlers, as they should, but she was a very good dramatic actress too, always giving Hilda a believable pathos and heartache that underpinned the comedy. The best was when she spat on the Rovers floor when they started a lynch mob over accusations that Stan was a peeping tom.

Corrie made such classic characters in its first few decades, perfectly rounded, relateable, but never too much so.

Her scene of her holding Stan's spectacles after he passed is one of the most dramatic and heart wrenching scenes I've seen. It wasn't over the top and was just enough to drive the point home. I wish soaps would do that more nowadays when it comes to dramatic scenes.

I've only watched a few episodes of "Coronation Street", but you don't have to be a fan of the show to know how iconic the character of Hilda Ogden is.

I know Jean wasn't very happy with the direction the show has taken since her departure and had no desire to return to the role of Hilda, and I admire that. Even though it's often tempting to wish that beloved characters from the past would return to their shows maybe it's better that they remain in the past so that we can keep our memories of them intact.
